White Tees for the Win

I've said before that if ever I was glad to have learned to remix or to have reworked my closet it would be during this pregnancy.  One thing I learned was the beauty of a plain white tee.  I honestly thought they were dumb and pointless before, but I see the light now!  And boy, do I need it to maximize my maternity wardrobe!

Pair it with ANY bottom and add a statement necklace, a simple pendant, or a scarf to change things up.  Ta-da!

In other news, Benson is in full. on. nesting. mode.  But it ain't whatcha think.  Instead of assembling things like a crib, he's taking things apart.  Yeah.  Taking things apart and getting rid of stuff like there's no tomorrow.  Besides getting rid of 1/3 of our books, two bookcases, a desk, a few chairs, and a lot of other little things, he even got rid of nearly HALF his wardrobe earlier this week!  And I, of course, watched him and had to eat ice cream--definitely had to--to keep me from having an anxiety attack as he ruthlessly went at his closet.  Then he told me to do the same, and I was like...

But really, building a capsule maternity wardrobe has been great practice and a great discipline for making the most of my wardrobe.  It's brought me back to some really basic things I've learned over the last 3 years and I have to admit, while I'm itching to get back to the rest of my closet, I simultaneously want to tear through it too.  But you bet I'll need to gear up with a major self pep talk first.  And ice cream, of course.  Always ice cream.

  1. I actually can't wait to go through my closet and get rid of clothes after the baby is born. After sticking to the same maternity clothes for the past few months, I'm ready to clear out my regular wardrobe and see what style holes need filling!

  2. Where on earth can you find a white tee that isn't see through? I don't want to wear a cami underneath a tee in 90+ degree weather.

  3. I have this same problem all the time! I finally found some at TJMaxx or Marshalls last year and I grabbed like 6 of them because I was so excited. The brand is Femme, but I'm not sure if they're carried anywhere else and I can't seem to find them online.

  4. I can't believe you weren't a white tee believer until now! Glad you finally came to your senses! And omg! That is hilarious about Benson getting rid of everything! lol. Ice cream was definitely needed to handle that!

  5. I have the exact same problem as Southernbelle. Every single white shirt I have ever found is completely see through. Why can't they make a white shirt that isnt? We have the technology. This is why I avoid them which is such a shame since they are so versatile.

  6. I found some at Kohl's just the other day, on sale for $8. Soft but thick, I think from the Sonoma brand.

  8. We are preparing for our second baby (December!) and it's crazy how nesting can include wanting to simplify, we are definitely feeling that. I think it's this need to make everything as efficient as possible before things get crazy. Just this week we've sold our guest bed and we even sold a car and are having a go as a one car family! Happy nesting!

  10. You guys are awesome! This is such helpful info! I usually don't mind wearing camis under my tees since temps are pretty mild in San Diego, but who doesn't want a good, non-see through white tee? I'm gonna check out the Kohl's one and keep my eyes out for Femme!

  11. Ahhhhh, we were close to getting rid of a car and becoming a one car family too. But that's probably not happening. Good luck with that, and congrats on your second baby!

  13. So true, about the white tee AND the ice cream. You have certainly stretched your wardrobe, and it's not just good for you, it's good for baby too when you want to buy (and subsequently spend a million bucks on) the cutest little outfits! You can't really put a statement necklace on a baby but white onesies go with everything!

  14. I have ordered from DP, and I thought the quality was great and was happy with the sizing and the customer service was great, this is important because the shipping time is VERY slow and they do not track their international packages, so you really have no idea when to expect delivery.

  15. I bought things at Dorothy Perkins when I was visiting my family in Scotland. The clothes in that store are so cute. I wear a size 8 in the U.S. and the sizes I bought over there ranged from size 12-16. I was able to try everything on in the store so that made things easier. They have cute clothes and jewelry. The quality seemed decent to me. Some of it seemed like Target quality (love Target clothes too!) and some seemed a little bit better. I bought a lot of things from the sales rack. I wish they had stores in the U.S. I think I would be shopping there all the time!

  16. I, too, love the simplicity and versatility of a plain white tee as well - they're a blank canvas for all kinds of accessories, they go with any bottom, you can layer anything on top of them...just perfect all around! :)
