Neutrals With Pops of Color

With not wanting to buy a whole new maternity wardrobe, I've run back to basics more often than normal.  Even though I've had this navy dress for years and have blogged it at least 5 times before (see them here), I usually overlook it in my closet--kind of how I treat most basics.  I don't know if it's because I'm forgetful or straight up too lazy to try to think about spicing up basics, but I often overlook them.  This season has been good practice for me to exercise my muscles in utilizing basics and neutrals.

This time around I tried to update this pretty old dress by adding pops of color.  I know neon isn't for everyone, but you could bring life to your basics and neutrals with with pink accessories, red, or whatever other color you feel comfortable with!

How do you try to add life to basics and neutrals?

The first two H&M options below are only $13, and the last H&M one is only $18!

  1. Neon and navy! So pretty together. I love that you are maximizing what you already have in your closet. Accessories are your BFF, they always fit! (Except maybe belts. lol.)

  2. I can absolutely vouch for that #2 option from target. I have the same dress in gray and it is soooo comfortable. Also office appropriate for casual Friday with cute flats.

  3. There is a necklace at Maurice's that will match perfectly with your outfit. I cant find it online, but I just bought it in the store last Thursday. It has Navy and neon yellow stones on it. Its a great statement necklace

  4. I love this dress with the pops of yellow! I actually have one that is very similar, but I rarely wear it because it is so low cut with the cross-top. Are you wearing a camisole under yours? Do you have any tips for brands that work particularly well under a dress with this kind of top? Thank you!!

  5. Oooooo I want dress #1...totally my style! I really love strong basic pieces. I've been trying to step out of my comfort zone with more patterns and colors. I recently bought a black and white leopard print cardigan and wore it with a gray pencil skirt and nude heels to something and all my friends were like "Holy moly you look sexy!!!" It felt pretty darn good. :-) Who knew an animal print could do so much!

  6. OMG IT COMES IN POLKA DOTS. Squeeeeee!!!

  7. Daisy Fuentes seamless camis at Kohl's. I wear them under almost everything because they lay flat and smooth everything out! http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-955203/daisy-fuentes-seamless-camisole-womens.jsp

  8. Such a cute dress, you and your bump are looking great! :)

I found myself wearing a lot of basics during pregnancy too - it's helpful as when your wardrobe gets more limited you can accessorise or dress up the few pieces you can wear in different ways :)

I have a series on my blog at the moment about non-maternity clothes I found most helpful in pregnancy :) Away From The Blue

  9. so beautiful!! I love this neutral look!

  10. I really love this! The navy + neon is a great combination.
