Scarf Season

Do you have pieces in your closet that you've been neglecting a little?  Maybe it's your collection of dresses or your collection of blazers.  I have approximately 1 million scarves (give or take a few thousand, of course), but I hardly wear them anymore.  Before blogging I wore a scarf the majority of the time, but I noticed on my last few trips that I wasn't packing patterned scarves like I used to.  Finally I realized that I had gotten rid of most of my solid tops, which made it hard to wear patterned scarves.  But I love how they can change up outfits, or at the very least turn a simple jeans + solid tee/top combo into something unique.  So, it's time for operation 'wear my scarves, darn it.'  What kinds of pieces in your closet should you give more attention to?

(The first time I wore this top on the blog I talked about it being blousy and worrying that people might think I was with child when I wasn't.  Well, it turns out I WAS with child at the time and just didn't know it yet.  Joke's on me!)

  1. I know exactly what you are talking about! I got rid of all my t-shirts last year, so I have no t-shirts for simple outfits!

I have a hard time mixing printed tops with printed scarves too (except maybe a plaid shirt). I ordered the ON scarf yesterday - love the colors in it.

  4. Audrey, I love this outfit so much! Your shirt couldn't be a more beautiful color and style, and I love how that shade of blue looks with navy. I'm happy to hear you're going to try wearing your scarves more often :) I'm trying to get more wear out of some of my more neglected pieces as well. I haven't been wearing dresses like I used to, so I'm trying to wear at least one dress a week these days. I also haven't been giving enough love to most of my scarves or necklaces. I wear a scarf of a necklace nearly every day, but find myself reaching for the same few favorites. I'm trying to stretch myself into incorporating more of those pieces in my outfits as well. It's a fun way to "go shopping" in my closet and decide whether or not to keep certain pieces that have been just taking up space for so long! :)

  5. What a lovely scarf, Audrey! I have way too many scarves, but then again, I believe scarf adds instant polish (and fun) to even the most basic outfits! One can never go wrong with scarves.

Also, just want to mention that even I used to wear patterned scarves with solid tops mostly. But I've been experimenting a little with pattern mixing and quite like the outfit- think subtle striped tee and floral scarf (I actually wore this while traveling)!

  7. Technical question! What are you using to make your pics of similar items, like the scarf one above?

I'm in a similar color palette today and wearing a much-forgotten scarf!

  10. Audrey congratulations!!!!! Such great news about your newest family addition!! Gorgeous outfit as always! Soo..can I ask the question of how you realized you were pregnant? Since you didn't know when you wore this top the first time around you didn't know you were hehe. Was it a test or enhanced sense of smell or anything interesting like that?

  11. I love scarves! I recently read this tip on Pinterest from a J. Crew stylist that changed my scarf life, so I thought I'd share :)

"Almost all scarves are rectangular. So before wrapping it around your neck, hold it up by opposite corners so the ends are tapered, pull the end section tight, and then wrap around your neck. This way the ends that hang will be tapered instead of short, squared, and bulky."

  12. Nothing magical...I missed a period and took a test. Like I said in my pregnancy announcement post I've had a keen sense of smell, went to the bathroom often, and have had a bad memory my whole life. The reason I didn't know I was pregnant the first time I wore that top back in November is because I was only a few days pregnant.

  13. I use Pages on Mac for all my collages--products and remix posts. I think Grace from Camp Patton uses Picasa, and other people use some other popular ones that I can't remember the names of haha.

  14. I haven't been wearing dresses like I used to either. That's the second thing on my list to focus on more...but I think it's because the style of my current dresses doesn't quite fit what my style has become these days.

  15. haha, that's really funny, turns out you really did need to congratulated yourself :) I love patterned scarves, and I'm the opposite of you, trying to wean myself off of solid tops and get more into patterns.

  16. I have so many items in my closet that I've done a series called "No Longer Neglected" where I wore neglected items for an entire month! I just did it last month, and am still finding things in my closet that need more love. Anyway, I love this look on you! The scarf is so pretty, and you are definitely glowing :)

  17. Yes! I think that's exactly it for me, too - they're just not the style that I'm drawn to anymore, nor are they as flattering on me as I would like. Sigh. Maybe I'll just need to go shopping for some new options ;)

  18. Haha, you and me both. ;) I can't remember...were you interested in a couple of the Target dresses I featured a bit ago? This one ( http://bit.ly/NGAgqO) and this one (http://bit.ly/1bsQkXO)?

I ordered both of them! The grey one has an awesome texture AND pockets, but the fit wasn't great on me. My shoulders were too broad for it and the pleats at the waist weren't flattering on me--usually pleats at the waist are not flattering on me since I have a small bust and wider hips.

The blue ponte one was great, but ultimately I didn't think I needed it. Especially now that I'm pregnant!

  19. I am totally the same! Scarves are something that I definitely don't need, but I can't seem to shy away from buying more! I am trying to buy more plain scarves now so they will work with my patterned tops. Thanks for sharing!

  21. Seriously your hair. Adorbs. I've been pushing myself to wear more scarves lately too since scarf season (hopefully) will be over soon and they're always so cute.

  23. Scarves for me too. I love wearing wooly scarves and pashmina shawls in winter, and I had a nice collection of silky, patterned scarves too, but somehow I never wore them. I just never knew what to do with them, I guess. Also I have big boobs and I felt the scarf was putting on more... I don't know, I tried and never felt comfortable with them, so I gave them to a friend who does wear them. And now after your post, I miss them a little. :-P

  24. Oooh, thank you so much for linking to those dresses, Audrey! They're exactly the kinds of dresses I've been looking for. I will need to order a few and see how they work out for me! Target always has such a fantastic dress selection...so many different styles, materials, colors, etc. And they're so affordable as well! Thanks again for the links!! :)

  25. Ironically, my scarves were getting all the attention, and my necklaces were getting jealous! I'm just happy we're finally getting back to skirt weather!

  26. I also have a million scarves that I always forget to use!! That and belts!
