Casual Days #2 - Add a Necklace

If you're a jeans & t-shirt girl and looking for a way to spruce up your wardrobe without going crazy, having to figure out style, or needing to give up your t-shirts, here's the easiest way: add a necklace.

(This is another repeater outfit at random points between Fri - Mon.  Just changed shoes--flats for Saturday's church band practice when I was standing for 3.5 hours straight.)

I can't tell you how many forums I've run across where someone asks this question, and much of the advice given involves the billion pieces they need to add to their wardrobe or how to overhaul their wardrobe altogether.  Well, if you don't want to do that, just buy some necklaces. (There are 6 cheap-to-the-cheap options below!)  And if you're stressed about knowing what colors go with each other, DON'T!  :)  Don't stress.  Just throw on a necklace in the same color family as your shirt.  I did it yesterday and today, and it's the simplest of all simple dressing.  But that little tiny necklace can make all the difference between looking like you don't know what you're doing to seeming put together.

Side-by-side comparison:

Double mint today!  Found some great mint tees, but also some fun non-tee options.

Also, couldn't resist showing you all these fabulous necklaces from Forever 21.  Spruce up your accessories collection on the cheap!

  1. I agree 100%! It's my favorite way to dress up anything. I like your mint on mint ensemble.

  2. Yes I am - a total jean and tee shirt girl. I also like using accessories to spruce up an outfit.

Love this! I *know* adding a necklace is the way to make an outfit look polished, but I often struggle with what necklace to choose. Your "same color family" advice is genius! Thanks!

  4. Love the mint green and nude together. Great look!

  5. That necklace really adds so much to the outfit! now I want one similar.

  6. I love the mint necklaces! I need to go to Forever 21 to check those out. :)

  7. Accessories are great ways to dress up plain outfits! And they can be swapped out easily to make something look different each time you wear it too :)

  8. You have made me a total mint convert! At first I was nervous that I wouldn't have a ton to wear it with, but you have shown it with so many options. I neeeddd to get some :) BTW, congratulations!

  9. I totally agree about just taking a necklace and adding it to your outfit. Accessorizing is all about experimenting.

  10. Wow, that necklace really does pull it together! I'm so in love with anything mint right now!

  11. Posts like this are exactly why I love your blog. Jeans and a tee are my FAVORITE outfit ever so little tips like this are great. Plus like you, I work in a very casual office environment where everyone is dressed in said jeans and tee. People think I'm dressed up when I wear anything more than the basics. I'll have to remember to try a necklace in the same color family!

PS: Are you going to be hosting any link ups in the upcoming future? Like the One Piece, Many Ways or 7X7 remix or even something new? I love those and your blog always gets a HUGE amount of participants.

  12. I'm wearing a necklace & earrings with my T-shirt today. I felt more confident as I'm out and about. :)

  13. This post completely inspired what I'm wearing today. And I made it my first outfit on GCOGH http://gochicorgohome.com/explore/members/19607/board/835610 :) Thanks!
