Pops of Leopard

When my friend saw my outfit she was like, "That's the first time I've seen leopard print done in a way that I actually like."  At least in the style blogging world, leopard print doesn't seem too scary or "out there" so I was curious to know how she'd normally seen leopard print done in the "real world."  With hot pink, sparkles, and velour track pants apparently!  Ah yes...that style has definitely given animal print a bad rap.

If you've got the same mental image of animal print as my friend had, start with small doses like leopard flats/pumps, a scarf, or a belt.  They're great additions to a simple outfit without being overwhelming.

Last week I linked to 6 leopard flat options. (Catch them here.)  Below are some scarves and belts with animal print that feels a little softer.  For belts, I own Option 7 and love it!  Option 8 has smaller spots, and Option 9 is a little thicker at 1.5 in, though you can't tell from the pics.

  1. I had the same opinion of leopard as your friend until I started reading more style blogs. Every time I saw the print, it seemed to be bright colors and in large amounts - a total turn off for me! I love the look of this outfit, though!

  2. I love this leopard scarf on you! I have one but have never tried pairing it with navy -- hmm, thanks for the inspiration lady!

  3. Man, every time you wear those olive pants you remind me that I desperately need to get my olive skinnies tailored! They fit me so horribly, but I really want them to work! Love this outfit--just needs a touch more sparkle and velour ;-)

  4. That's surprising to me! I think animal print would fit right in with your wardrobe!

  5. Looks great! I have those olive skinny pants and a dark blue shirt and a leopard infinity scarf. The only thing I don't have are those leopard flats. So I can dress like your twin, but without those shoes. I've have to look for some that are comfortable on my feet!

  6. Thanks Audrey. I think i'm going to get myself an animal print scarf. I guess I was just afraid of it. But i'm slowly learning that fashion is fun and that you shouldn't be afraid of any of it :)

  7. Haha! Tan flats will work. My shirt is black, not navy, though. Sometimes my black clothes look navy on certain screens. ;)

  8. I need a tutorial on how you tied that scarf! Please?

  9. I just read the comments and I thought your shirt was navy too1 But It's still lovely even if it is black1 I love the belt options here.

  10. I have that same scarf! It's funny, I never wore leopard print before I started reading style blogs. Now it's a staple for me. :)

  11. I started to make one, but it's not really impressive. I loosely loop it around my neck once and tuck the sides under the loop until it looks like that.

  12. Love this look! I really like the idea of combining black, olive, and leopard.

  13. Such a nice leopard print scarf! I like it with the black :)

I know exactly what your friend means about leopard print too - it can sometimes be done so wrong! But on accessories it never feels like too much :)

Nice scarf!! I have one very similar! It's very useful!

  15. Audrey, I wore my olive skinnies, black scoop neck long sleeve t-shirt, a skinny brown belt, leopard infinity scarf, gold necklace and my tan and leopard sperry's on the day you posted that picture. I went to my daughter's cheer meeting and two other Mom's stopped me and commented on how "cute" I was dressed! They also said " You always look so nice and so pulled together and I love your haircut"! Thanks so much for all the inspiration Audrey! Thanks to you, I feel a renewed sense confidence and self-esteem!!!

  16. Woohoo! That is SO awesome, Kim! I'm so happy for you! Thank you so much for sharing :D

  17. Ugh, pink sparkly leopard?! I want to vomit!! That's like 8 year old stuff, your poor friend is so sheltered! This is obviously the way leopard should be worn!
