New Blog Member!

That's right--we're expecting a baby!  We are overjoyed, grateful, and totally freaking excited!

ultrasound at 8 weeks

I'm 15 weeks along--closer to 16w at this point.

I'm glad to say it's been a pretty tame pregnancy so far.  Mostly I was brain dead at 3pm during the 1st trimester and felt ever so slightly queasy at 5pm everyday.  Never to the point of throwing up though, thank God!  In terms of typical stuff like going to the bathroom often, having a bad memory, and having a stronger sense of smell, that was all true of me before I was pregnant, sooooo pretty much I've been training for those my whole life.  ;)

Other than that, I've been learning to slow down and realizing that my capacity to get ish done isn't the same as it used to be...and learning to be totally okay with that!  *tipping my hat to all the moms in the house*

On the Blogging Front
People keep talking to me about whether or not I'm going to do maternity wear on the blog now.  The answer is yes, and also...kind of.  I don't really know what they mean by that question.  I'm going to be pregnant, so naturally, yes, of course there will be maternity clothes on here.  I will be dressing for my body, like I always have...it will just be in a different form.  It's gonna be hard to hide!  Plus, maternity wear is a piece missing from this blog that I've wanted to fill for a long, long time.

BUT, at the same time I've always tried to generalize tips and tricks as much as I can to broaden them from my style or size and translate them to something that can work for you.  Sure, there will be daily outfits of me dressing my pregnant self and some maternity talk, but generalizing tips and tricks is something I hope to continue no matter what my body shape is.  We'll see, though!  Who knows that my future self will really do?

I don't know that I'll be writing a whole lot about pregnancy here, but I've been quiet on Instagram because all I've wanted to do is post silly things about pregnancy and couldn't share yet.  Now that the cat's out of the bag, you can follow along there if you're interested!

  1. Congratulations!!! What awesome news :) My biggest maternity-wear breakthrough was when I realized (during my 2nd pregnancy) that my body at approximately 20 weeks was pretty similar to how my body ended up immediately post-partum, and finding clothes that worked to camouflage the bump at that point (and were also nursing-friendly) was a huge help - adding a belt helps emphasize the bump while pregnant, taking the belt away helps camouflage if that makes any sense!

  2. :) so excited for you and B! Congrats!

  10. First and foremost, Congratulations!!! Second, Lauren at Fizz and Frosting is also pregnant and as a non-pregnant person (that ship has sailed!) I love how she links to the maternity wear she is wearing, and also a non-maternity version of the same piece. I think that helps keep the interest of non-pregnant people too.

  12. Congratulations! How exciting! I lived in yoga pants for the vast majority of my pregnancy because maternity jeans never fit me right-they were uncomfortable as all get out. LOL! I also wore a lot of empire waist tops and dresses. I am excited to see how you incorporate maternity wear into your blog. I think it will be fun!

  17. How exciting! It is totally selfish of me, but I'm a little sad that the timing of your maternity posts will be a little late for me. I have a three month old, so now the challenge is dressing while nursing--another thing I'd love to see more about online!

Maybe this will make you laugh: I hopped on Pinterest, saw your baby pins, thought "could it be?" And immediately went to check my blog reader. Congratulations! Get used to not being able to get ish done-- it's even harder with a baby. :)

  22. NO. FREAKING. WAY!!!!! Audrey! Congrats! If I wasn't in the middle of class right now, I'd totally be jumping up and down with joy for you! Oh oh oh! A baby! What fun! How scary. OMG. It's like I'm celebrating with my BFF all over again. Wheeeee!

Okay, now that I've gathered my thoughts and have a bit more focus: although it would be fun and interesting (if not relevant since I'm way past my birthing years) to see you style maternity clothes, I'm glad to hear you'll continue on with general tips and tricks. And in point of fact, most women don't even show until their third trimester (if they don't gorge on flaming hot cheetos and ginger ale, of course. Oh, wait, that's just me. Never mind.)

I'm getting a kick out of it. Anyways, I'll really enjoy following you online for the next couple of weeks! We are almost half-way through (mine has not been tame so yes, I'm counting down ( ; ) Congrats to you and your husband again!

  73. I'm a quiet reader of your blog (love your style!) but, CONGRATS!!! What exciting news! Best wishes for a fantastic remainder of your pregnancy

    ReplyDelete
  74. So again, CONGRATS! And also I love what you say about posting pregnancy style - I really felt like the maternity wear formulas I came up with to fit my personal style (which takes a little work - so much frumpy maternity stuff out there!) were formulas that could translate into anyone's regular size wardrobe too. And if I found that, then I know you'll be excellent at generalizing your tips & tricks! Can't wait to see how you make pregnancy style work for you. And also for your little one. Can't wait for that too of course ;)

  86. Oh my gosh congrats! I did a double take when I saw the picture and I'm so excited for you! You should totally buy things that you can use while pregnant and after (loose tops belted above the bump with cardigans etc) I bought minimal maternity wear and did just fine! ♥

  87. I can't wait to see your maternity outfits! I bought a lot of great maternity stuff from Target and Loft, and a lot of it was versatile enough that I could wear it after I had my daughter.

  88. I have a few dresses that I love to wear all-year round. In the spring and summer, I simply add a pair of flats and I'm on my way. But in the fall and winter, I add a pair of neutral (usually gray) tights, boots, and a cardigan. I'm sometimes thrown a turtleneck sweater over a dress for a different look. Thanks for the great ideas!

  135. Layers are my best friend in the winter. Canadian winters can be pretty long...especially this one, it seems!! Thanks for sharing, Audrey!

    ReplyDelete
  136. Yep, I hear you loud and clear on this one! I have hardly any pieces in my closet that are season-specific. I try to get things that can be worn and layered all year round. One of my favorite things is to winterize a spring/summer dress, and you've mentioned so many of my favorite ways to do so here: cardigans, blazers, tights, flats, boots, and scarves are all great ways to get more wear out of those breezier dresses. I also really like the look of layering a shirt underneath a dress like you've done with your striped dress, but I've never tried it. Perhaps I'll need to give it a shot!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't have many season-specific pieces either! That's surprising to hear that you don't, given that you actually live in a climate with seasons. Whenever magazines say to store away your out-of-season pieces it never applies to me!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Yeah, I suppose it is pretty strange, because of where I live. I mean, I do have a couple of bulky sweaters (literally, two) and some sweater dresses for winter, and some shorts for summer, but other than that, most everything gets worn all year round :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. I absolutely love it when you do these types of posts where you can wear one piece many different ways! You lay it out so perfectly, and easily, that it gets my creative mind rolling! I am excited to get into my closet and find those pieces that will work a variety of ways!

  140. What a wonderful and thoughtful post. It's a great way to maximize a girls' investments. In Seattle, we usually do the bulkier versions, with boots, jacket and scarf, but for three months out of the year, we get to enjoy the other two. By the way, the striped dress look absolutely adorable.
