Navy, Olive, and Mint

This is an outfit I wore in St. Louis.  I read someone say in a cold weather packing post that they feel warmer with 3-4 thinner layers than with one big sweater, and I totally agree.  I'm not in cold weather often, but that's how I dressed when I was traveling to Chicago many a winter weekend and I surprisingly did not struggle much with the cold.

So, even though this sweater is super thin, I wore a Uniqlo HEATTECH underneath, layered on the white button up, and topped it off with this thin sweater and added the tartan Zara scarf when we went outside (and a jacket, of course...).  I don't know if I should call it a scarf or a blanket, because this thing is enormous.  When I asked for it for Christmas I didn't know it was going to be a blanket, and I didn't know it was a popular style blogger thing to own.  Whatever, not like it matters anyway.  It seems I won't be getting as much use out of it in San Diego as I'd hoped since I had no idea how big and blankety it was.  No worries.  It's still a much appreciated gift!  And psst...it's on sale for $13 right now!

  1. I live 2 hours south of St. Louis, and it has been a very cold winter! Glad you stayed toasty warm while you were in the Midwest!

  2. Once again- you've shown us a great way to pair olive with navy blue (or cobalt). I just love this outfit & how it looks cozy, yet fresh! :)

  3. I got so excited about the Zara scarf! But then it seems to be sold out online, since it won't let me pick a size. Sad day :(

  4. Love this outfit! I've had a pair of olive pants forever that have never fit me right . . . you're definitely making me think I need to bust out the sewing machine and fix the fit (or better yet, just send them to a tailor).

  5. Love both of these outfits! I actually have a scarf and necklace that are both identical to yours, so you've given me some brainstorming ideas! How did you tie the scarf? I always have trouble arranging big scarves so they look cute and not like they're strangling me :)

  6. That tartan scarf is beautiful! I would have thought being so big and cosy looking you'd have gotten a lot of use out of it in cooler weather :)

  8. Living in California all my life, I haven't really mastered the art of layering yet. I looked at those Uniqlo tops when I was in a store in the Bay Area over Christmas but they looked so thin and their clothes looked really cheap so I didn't try it. I'm glad to hear it's warm. That scarf on the other hand, looks insanely warm and cozy!

  9. Sad to hear those were your opinions of Uniqlo. Been a huge fan for years, from the New York and Hong Kong stores! It's basically Asian Gap.

Audrey, any other suggestions for a similar scarf?

  14. No worries, it happens! If you find something else, that would be great! (I could even make something with more red work, too!)

  15. I love uniqlo heattech stuff! I bought a few of their heattech slips for staying warm while wearing dresses. They totally help :)

  17. What a great combo - and I love both the necklace and then the scarf look. Navy is a staple in my closet, so thanks for giving me another great idea on another color to pair it with.

  18. These pieces all seem really versatile - that's key to getting your money's worth from an article of clothing!
