Style Journey

I pinned this outfit like 2 years ago and FINALLY recreated it!  I don't know what took me so long because this is right up my alley.  I think maybe it felt like such a no-brainer outfit for me that I was saving it for a rainy day.  Not a real rainy day because, you know, we don't have many of those down here.  But, the kind where you stand in front of your closet and get depressed and mopey and feel like if you were in a commercial you would have a sad rain cloud over your head.

Well, that...and, 2 years ago I didn't even have the pieces to recreate this.  I just pinned it as an idea of where I wanted my style to go.  Even though I didn't run out and purchase all of the pieces at once to recreate it (like I talk about not doing in the post Shopping Mistakes I've Made) I somehow ended up with all of them two years later.  And they're some of my most worn pieces, including two of my faves, the dotted top and faux leather jacket.

It's a great feeling when you've been intentional about your wardrobe and realize you've landed exactly where you wanted to be.  You know what I mean?  What have been some of your favorite purchases on your style journey?

  1. I totally know what you mean! I decided to do a clothing fast a year ago and your blog has taught me so much!(My style story was just posted on Greater Than Rubies.) Thank you for inspiring me to not make shopping mistakes! And all the tips you provide on here have been so very helpful. My "remixable" wardrobe is so different today and I'm so content with the items I own now. Thanks again for what you do here!

  2. This is such a nice casual outfit! It's good that your style is evolving in the way you wanted, it shows that being considerate of your purchases really helps :)

I used to pin like crazy and never used any of the outfits I pinned as inspiration. I am slowly trying to a better job of it when I do have those "rainy" days. You look great as always!

P.S. I am hosting Kensie giveaway and hope you stop by and enter.

  4. I am embracing a newly minimalistic outlook & finding that my basic black pieces are putting in TONS of work in my wardrobe currently!

  5. My favorite purchases have actually been the impulse buys that didn't necessarily make sense with my wardrobe at the time that I bought them (floral skinnies and an array of printed skirts, namely), but have definitely shaped the way my style has evolved; they ended up being the framework for a funkier-than-I-would-have-imagined look. And I hate to be the person that awkwardly demands unrelated crap in the comments section, but I'm really only saying that as a transition into the awkward demand I'm about to make. :) The search bar on your home page isn't "working" in my browser (when I hit enter it just refreshes the page), and I would really like a link-up to the various ways you've worn your striped dress(es? I'm remembering multiples). It seemed like I was seeing outfits with it/them all the time over the summer, and now that I have a striped dress, I have no inspiration! Like I could just, I don't know, plan my own outfits, but I'd love to see what you've come up with! Thanks!! :)

  6. Hi Jessica!

The search bar is a standard widget, so I'm not sure why it's not working for you. I just tried it and it worked for me. It usually puts the finds at the top of the page. But, the easiest way to search for how I've worn an item is through the labels. Here's the label for the striped dress: http://www.puttingmetogether.com/search/label/striped%20H%26M%20dress
