Red, Dots, and Blue & A question on reviews

So...from my last shopping spree at Target I swore I wasn't going to return any of the items, but I did.  I LOVED the sequined top, but I tried it on in store with a skirt instead of pants, and when I got home to look at proper proportions with pants it was too long for me and probably too much work to alter because of the sequins.  I'm on the fence about the green top.  It's the same length, but alterable, and the material is thinner so it's easier to tuck in.  On my return trip, what I found instead was this navy polka dot button up.  This one's definitely a keeper!

On that note, I guess I could have done some sort of review of that sequin top and the other pieces, talking about the pros and cons and showing pictures of problem areas...but is that helpful?  I generally like seeing bloggers reviewing different pieces on their shopping ventures, but um...mine would all be from Target, Old Navy, H&M, and maybe Forever 21.  Not sure if that's worthwhile.  But if that's helpful, let me know and I'd be glad to!  If not, business will carry on around here as usual.

  1. I would like to see those kinds of reviews. I frequently shop at those places, too, and we have similar tastes.

  2. I would love to see reviews from Target, Old Navy, etc. Many people shop there and they have cute stuff. Your reviews are very helpful, especially the links to similar items.

  3. One of my new rules of shopping is: if I'm on the fence about an item, I don't buy it. That rule has been saving me from a lot of bad choices.

I think it would be great to see reviews from these stores since many of us shop there. It will be a lot of work for you because their styles change so quickly that you would have to put them up relatively quickly. I don't do reviews but sometimes I will use IG to ask people if it's a nay or yah on an item. I have found that if I am on the fence, I end up not wearing the item so much if I keep it. So for me, I should always not buy it if I am on the fence.

  5. That's a great rule! That's usually my rule for keeping, but not for buying. I like to bring things home to see how they would work with other things and if I can alter the problem areas. But after all that thought, if I'm still on the fence they definitely get returned.

  6. Yes please! These are stores I shop at and I would love to see more reviews! Also, I've noticed that quality really tends to vary at these places. I have some ON dresses from 15 years ago that are still in great shape, while I've already gotten rid of others due to pilling, rips, shrinking, etc. One thing I love about your site is how reasonably priced your wardrobe is; it's very much in the same price range as mine (and, similarly, there are a few "splurge" pieces) and I'd really like more reviews of things, good or bad!

  7. Definitely! Those are the places I shop as well, and especially with Target, I have trouble spotting the great pieces in the mix.

  8. It's worthwhile. Please do it. I appreciate other bloggers' reviews, but I rarely shop where they shop. I do, however, shop where you shop.

  9. YES!! That's where I shop too ;)

  10. I would
also love to see those reviews even if I cannot shop at all the places you do
    as I live in Germany.
But seeing you demonstrate where problem areas are would help a lot
nevertheless as I really like your style. You always look casual but cute so
seeing what doesn’t work for this style would be very helpful. So yay for
reviews – and maybe some more styling mishaps compared to successful stylings
    as well?

  11. LOVE the polka dots! I'm heading to target later this week, I'll be keeping my eyes open for it. To your question, I love the business as usual, but I think highlighting problem areas could be really helpful. You're reviewing the specific piece, but I would think the problems of a specific piece, no matter where it is from, would be very transferrable. Either way, thanks for the inspiration as always :)

  12. Yes! I shop at all those places too - cute & affordable & easily accessed - works for my time and budget!

  13. Yes!!! Please include reviews with pros/cons and the thought process behind keeping/returning items. I love seeing the winner outfits but I would also love seeing the behind the scene process of getting there. It would also be personally helpful for a few reasons- as someone else commented, I think it can be difficult to pick out the BEST items esp in target, I can get stuck deciding whether or not to keep an item, and even if an item doesn't work for you, it may for someone else and the pros/cons would be helpful w that!

In addition, just want to say that a big pro with new clothing for me is being able to wear year round (since I live in the sw where winters are sooo mild). Im finding that keeping that in mind, at least sometimes, is really stretching my wardrobe & saving my wallet. So....thanks for the post yesterday with the link of a summer outfit showing your snakeskin top. The labels at the end of the post also make searching for ideas to use items throughout seasons super easy. I'd love to see that included (transitioning an item thru seasons) if you decide to do pros/cons and deciding whether to keep an item. Love your blog...1 of 2 that I regularly follow! So fabulous & USEFUL!!!

  14. I definitely think it would be helpful. That is where a lot of us shop and having helpful reviews definitely help save time and help make smart shopping choices.

  15. I just like to see what you wear, to see what you put on for the day. That's inspiring enough for me. Thanks also for sharing what you returned to Target. I bought the same sequin shirt and green shirt on your recommendation and have been waiting to see how you'd style them, but I'll probably return the sequin shirt as well. Any chance you'll be showing us any holiday party outfits soon? Thanks for your blog!

  16. I was going to wear that sequined top with maroon pants and a medium grey or tan blazer, or with black jeans, heels, and shiny jewelry to holiday parties. I was also going to wear it casually with an olive cargo jacket. All of those looked great except for the length of the shirt on me.

  17. That's all really helpful feedback. Thanks Alli!

  18. Thank you, Gundulina! I hadn't thought about how it might be helpful to see what doesn't work, at least in this sense. Great input. Thanks again!

  19. I totally agree about the ON quality. I have some dresses from ON from 5-7 years ago that are still awesome, and lately others I haven't even touched while in store because I can tell by the material that they won't last.

  20. Thanks for the suggestions! Maybe I'll try some of those options myself. Maybe I'm a little taller than you and the length will work on me...

  22. Besides the fact that you just listed (with the exception of thrift stores) the places I go for clothes, I agree with others that just seeing your thought process and examples of pros/cons is good. We might not go to the same stores as you, but we also may not have the same body type as you. Seeing the thought process, however, is really helpful, because we can apply it to the outfits we're trying to put together. :-)

  23. Well, those are rhe only places I shop. And I have your shape, but I'm petite, so your reviews have really helped me. If you say its too long, I don't even bother! I vote for you to review. And feel free to talk about sizing! H&m and old navy are all over the place. Thanks for your great blog.

  24. Yes, please do post reviews of keepers and non-keepers. How else are we supposed to know? It's like going behind the scenes …things you never get to see. But this will give us better insight to clothes from places that we clearly all shop at. Thanks!

  25. Please do! I bet the majority of your readers shop there too!! I know I do :)

  26. Yes, please...reviews, highlights, how tos, etc would all be super helpful. After seeing your post on the leopard print shirt I went and picked one up myself and thought this is the type of shirt that can be tucked in or belted. Of course it came be worn as is but there wouldn't be any definition. I thought it was a keeper. I came across the sequin one a few days ago and rejected it cause it was too long too. Plus it just didn't hang the same as the similarly cut leopard one. Funny how the change in materials can make a difference to how the piece looks on the body. As for the polka dots, I loved the shirt too from Target but felt the size dot was too big for me (I'm 5' tall, curvy and average). I think you pull it off well, I'm jealous!

  27. Please do post reviews! So helpful and your readers shop there ;)

  28. That is such a nice polka dot shirt! Glad you found a keeper even if you returned the other items :)

  29. Those are pretty much the same places I shop, so I would love to see reviews. Even if the reviews are brief, I still like to know what people think of items they try on. What might not work for you might be just what another person is looking for!

  30. That top is the cutest! It looks so great with the olive jacket.

  31. I would love it if you'd include reviews. For one thing, I have such a hard time telling whether I should keep something if the fit doesn't look exactly right to me. I'm never sure if it's lack of fashion sense on my part or if something really is off. Seeing how you make decisions would be helpful. Also, I'm living overseas right now and having to mostly shop online, so knowing that something runs long/didn't feel like quality fabric/etc. would be helpful for me so I don't have to mail so many things back. Target and Old Navy are my go-to stores.

  32. Yes! Reviews are very helpful!! Thank you!

  33. I agree, please share. I would also be very interested in if these pieces are easily laundered. Do they wash and dry well? Did they shrink or pill? I have no interest in clothes I need to hand dry and iron because I am lazy!

  34. Whether you review or not, I just love to see how you put your outfits together. They are the source of inspirations for my curated wardrobe.

  36. I love reviews especially for stuff like shirts from Target. The fit of things vary so much it's nice to have perspective. I also have a polka dot top and always hesitate to wear it with blue jeans. I'm going to try now and see how it looks!

  37. Oh, wow. I LOVE this top, Audrey! I might need to go out and find it for myself! I love reviews of items on other blogs, so I'd definitely be interested in reading review posts!

  38. i like the reviews! I almost always google for reviews before ordering online, so you'll be helping someone out, regular readers may go out and buy something if you love it, and I think it would help people find your blog through review searches!

  39. I like the reviews too. Helpful as far as fit/quality etc.
