Changing Styles with the Bottom Half

I put together the top half (sweater, plaid shirt, and necklace) in my Go Chic or Go Home virtual closet but couldn't decide on the bottom half, so I'm showing all three!  Through my indecision I realized that with some very minor changes of the bottom half you can easily change the style of an outfit.  Pretty easy, and easy always = awesome in my book!

The first is with slacks and heels for an office appropriate look.  Then, I just swapped the slacks for boyfriend jeans but kept the heels.  Boyfriend jeans are typically thought of as casual, but pairing them with heels and a fancy necklace can turn the outfit into a fun mix of fancy and casual.  Finally, I couldn't resist my heart language--skinny jeans and boots.  Perfectly casual!

I ended up wearing both the fancy casual and casual styles.  While the "casual" option is very typically me, I tried the fancy casual version as well just to break myself out of my business-as-usual skinny jeans + boots.

Which style is more "you"--office, fancy casual, or casual?

  1. I like the look with the slacks and the riding boots. :)

  2. I squealed so loudly my entire apartment complex could probably hear me. I don't care--let them be judge-y. The "fancy casual" is probably my Favorite Look of Anything Audrey Has Ever Done.

  3. I love this post Audrey! Definitely shows the versatility of switching up a few key pieces, and one of the reasons so many people love your blog :)

  4. Oh my, I love that necklace so much and what a practical and perfect post. And I love the shape and structured style of that bag. I totally agree with Fran. So many reasons to love your blog, and this kind of post is one of them.

  5. The work and the casual are more me. But good for you branching out with the third option!

  6. Lovely way to show that if you swap just one piece you can have an outfit that looks completely different :)

  7. See this is why I love you because you highlight my style. I see myself in all three. My kind of look easy and effortless yet looking like a million bucks. I think I'm going with the casual look tonight so I may wear my boots. Happy New Year to you all!

  8. You're so clever - love this remix! I'd wear all three for the right occasion...

  9. Love this look - all three, mostly the office look!

  10. All the looks are very cute. I think the casual one is my everyday look :)

  11. Love the jeans rolled up to show off the heels!

  12. I am the fancy casual! It's amazing what a pair of heels can do to an outfit, right? I'm a SAHM to two (soon to be three) boys and as the only girl in the house (aside from the cat) I try to stay fancy in any way I can. :) I have a pair of camel suede Franco Sarto wedges that are my go-to shoes. They literally go with everything! Fancy casual all the way. :)

  13. I got these same pumps for Christmas in my usual size but they tend to slip off the back of my foot. Did you buy your usual size or go down a half size?

  14. I use heel liners: http://www.puttingmetogether.com/2013/07/inside-scoop-to-shoe-inserts.html

  15. I love all three looks! I would be most likely to wear it on the weekend with boots though :)

  16. I love the idea of this post! It seems so novel, too. I think most of the time one takes a pair of bottoms and switches up the top half. You've merely done the reversal, but it's out of the box. And, I think that it's a great thing to show women how to make their closets WORK. Your "work clothes" can play with your weekend clothes.

  17. Love this post! I always switch out bottoms to make to new outfits but am worried about showing them too close together on the blog - this is the perfect way to do it!

  18. Very cute! I like the casual best. The heel/rolled up jean look is super cute on you, but I don't think I could do it and make it look intended!

  19. I LOVED this post, Audrey! For whatever reason, I always feel like the bottom half of my outfits "grounds" the outfit, and I've honestly never thought about just how much it can affect the overall "tone" of the outfit (haha, why does that seem like such a complicated concept??). I'll have to start paying more attention now to the bottom halves more!!

  20. Love! May I ask where the slacks are from? Thanks!
