Hair Talk

Let's pause on the clothing talk today.  In summary: striped skirts = win every time.

Moving on to more important topics, like...hair.  I've been getting a lot of questions and comments about my hair lately.  Soooooo, yes, it's getting longer.  I was gonna grow it out a lot more, like to the middle of my back / past my shoulder blades just to feel what it's like again and to see if I would actually style it.  (I had hair down to my waist for most of my life until about 5-6 years ago.)

Anyway, my little dilemma is that I rather like it at roughly this length.  This is still my cut from when I first started growing it out 7 months ago.  I haven't even trimmed it, haha!  But the cut is still holding its shape pretty well, which is fantastic.  I like that I can either leave it as is but that I can actually do other stuff to it now too, which is all I really wanted.  I can finally pull it back into a ponytail or I can give it some wavy volume, so I feel pretty content.

Since I didn't actually DO anything to my hair when it was down to my waist--no layers, no bangs, no nothing--I'm not sure what the possibilities would be and if it's worth it to grow my hair out more.  My hair grows pretty dang fast, but still...is it worth it?  What do you think, peoples?!

  1. I'm so glad, Bethany! And yes, I'm trying to keep things in reasonable price ranges, just like the clothing options I show. If I wouldn't consider spending my own money on it I probably wouldn't show it on the blog. (Except maybe once in a while!)

  2. I would def go it a few inches more. I wouldn't say to your waist (I am a big proponent of the fact that hair CAN be too long), but it would look really pretty just a bit longer!!

  3. This is crazy but since menopause, the texture of my hair has changed. I've always had thin, straight hair. Fortunately, I've always had a lot of hair; however, over the past 5 years, my hair has changed...for the better. I adore my hair now.

  4. I think it looks really nice just the way you have it. Chic!

I've had my hair a million different ways in the last 5-7 years... super long, short, and in between. I always come back to mid length as the most versatile and easy to style. But if you grow it longer and don't like it, you can always cut it much easier than growing it again.

  6. I cut my hair pixie short last fall and I've been enjoying all the intermediate styles while I grow it back out! I think medium length hair is more fun because you can do more with it!

  7. I tend to go through cycles--I'll grow out my hair super long, get tired of taking care of it, cut it really short, then wish for long hair again...and so it continues. Right now I'm in the in between phase like you. I think a medium cut is great--definitely more versatile!

  8. I am soooo jealous of anyone that can grow their hair out quickly. I have been growing mine out for yearrrrrs (5 1/2 years to get it from a bob to armpit length). My snail pace hair growth was great for short hair, which I had 10 years, as my style didn't required much maintenance. However, I really love having longer hair. I feel that I have a lot of options. My regular go-to style is blow-dried straight. However, I enjoy wavy, curls, ballet buns, fishtails, french braids, messy buns, etc (options are endless). Longer hair is also great for lazy days- ponytails are a lot easier w/ more hair and look less sleazy than short hair ponytails. I always felt it was obvious that I went one day too long w/o washing with short hair.

  9. Love the striped skirt! :)

I think you should continue to grow your hair out, you can always cut it again if you don't like it!

I'm still trying to grow mine, but I'm missing how easy it was to deal with when it's shorter already...

  10. Your hair is gorgeous at this length. I love having long hair but I do curl it pretty much every day. On no-wash days it's super easy to wear a sock bun or the 2 minute tuck, though. (http://www.pinterest.com/pin/12736811418105976/) You'll never know if you don't try!

PS I am finally convinced on the blue jean jacket. You're a master at styling it!

  11. I think your hair looks great at this length; it works really well with your your face shape and it's super versatile (i.e. you can wear it down, put it up, or whatever else you like to do). And it's so shiny and healthy looking! Either way, I'm sure you'll be gorgeous but I say keep it as is :-)

  12. Love your outfit. Hair is very subjective. I like the length but at the end of the day it's up to you and what you would like. I also love how you styled the striped skirt with booties.

  13. I'm such a fan of other people trying new things with hair, but I'm not a risk-taker at all personally. I think this length is REALLY flattering on you, but I'd also love to see it longer - worst case, you just chop it back off if it isn't your thing!

  14. I've had long hair my whole life. I cut it off to shoulder-grazing to get rid of the trashed ends, and I immediately missed the length. Three years later, I've grown it longer than it ever was before, and I'm much more creative with styles. If you don't mind not having much hair for fancy styles and updos, then keep it short. It works well with your face shape.

  15. I just recently cut my hair - it was past my shoulder blades, and now it's somewhere between shoulders and chin, you know, classic bob. I never used to do anything with my hair, either, I'd just straighten it and that was it. I think this hair style is so much better for me since straightening is really enough for it to look very put together, while I could easily look frumpy with longer hair. I must say I also like the new personalitythat shorter hair gives me :) Anyway, I lovehow this style suits you and if I were you I'd keep it, but it's just hair, you can always cut it again.

  16. I really like the length it is now, but since I've never seen it long on you, its hard to judge. You have such pretty, shiny hair so I'm sure whatever you decide will be great! And I LOVE those booties. The cut makes your legs look longer, which is what I want!

  17. Hair is such a touchy (and personal!) topic, I think. Personally, I loved how your hair was a little shorter, but I really like it at this length as well. I also tend to dislike long hair on women. Oftentimes, it looks unkempt and most women I've seen with long hair look childish and kind of unprofessional (obiviously, depending on how it is styled and maintained)...but that's just my opinion. I think the length it is now is really nice, even a little longer would be fine, but that's me. You're lucky to have beautiful hair either way!!
