Warming Up To It

After all of the tension I've felt with all-neutral outfits and feeling like I didn't know how to work them well and always feeling like I needed some color, blah blah blah, I think I'm finally coming around.  I've noticed that lately I've just wanted to wear neutrals.  Like, I could have worn red flats with this outfit but tan was more soothing.  NO on a pop of color?  How did that happen?  Is it just because it's finally fall?  No idea, but the same thing happened with me and wearing the color yellow, which is now a central color in my wardrobe.  Apparently it takes me a while to warm up to things, and I like to fight them for a looooong time.  Another one: stripes.  Yeah, I thought they were dumb and pointless for years, but I think my blog has enough evidence to prove that I lost that fight.  So, cheers to all neutral outfits.  I think we can finally be friends.

Is there any type of style that you are fighting hard against?  Anything you're starting to warm up to?

  2. Such a darling outfit Audrey! I love your denim jacket :) I used to hate orange, but I spotted a really pretty pumpkin orange sweater in a store last week and am now stalking the website to see when they stock my size again! xo

  3. Cute, cute! I am with you on this neutral thing - I'm coming around too, despite fears of being boring with no pop of color. Both ways are great, of course, but it's kind of nice to do the all-neutral thing sometimes - chic and classic - if you can find ways to make it interesting. Like you've done with layers, stripes, knotted shirt, etc. Win.

  5. This is really cute! I love neutrals, so I thought that the title maybe was in relation to the knot tied in your top because I didn't notice it right away and that would be something I need to warm up to doing. ;)
Sadly what I'm *really* warming up to is actually wearing the stuff in my closet! I'm a serious jeans and t-shirt kind of girl even though I buy so many different items and could wear a lot more interesting outfits. I usually wear them in my head and have the best of intentions when it comes time to get dressed, but simple and basic is what I end up with. I need to change that!!

  6. i love neutrals. once fall hits thats all i want to wear. the only bright color i will wear is red but mainly because i have a red coat and really soft sweater. otherwise, you will find me in navy, white, grey, tan and dark green until spring.

  9. I love that button front skirt! It's the little things like those buttons that take an all neutral outfit into more interesting territory!

  10. That skirt had me at hello. I am the Queen of Neutral, and it can be boring, I'm working on coloring up my accessories to add a lil pow. But you do pops of color so well, so I can definitely see a remix by you. Keep up the good work.

  11. I've been feeling the same way! You put it best, it just feels more soothing. Also, as a request, can you sometimes pretend it's cold in San Diego and show us some cold weather looks? :)

  12. Haha, this IS me pretending it's cold here--long sleeves! :) My outfit posts are mostly just what I've worn that week. The goal isn't really to show people how to dress apart from what I'm actually wearing. But, you can look through the Style Tips for posts like this: http://www.puttingmetogether.com/2012/10/my-five-fall-go-to-outfits.html

  13. This outfit looks so comfy! Also, after seeing those flats on your blog a couple times now, I went ahead and ordered a pair for myself--they seem to be so versatile!

  15. I like this casual look and it takes me a while to warm up to trends, like peplum. I finally got a peplum top and jacket and i love them. For me i want to buy things that i will wear not just some quick fad, that's why it takes me a while to get into certain trends.

  16. Ankle boots. I like how they look on others, and I've wanted to try them for years. I see so many cute outfits with them. I finally found a pair at Target for $10 and I love them. I think my problem with them is they are either too high heeled or too pointy toed, but these are the right type of both. Now I want to wear them with all the things!
