Shoes and Maxi Dresses

Still faking fall over here most days!  75-85 degrees, with occasional 68 days.  So, cargo vest and bare limbs it is.  And even though I have at least 10 necklaces that would go with this dress (hello, basic black maxi dress) I only want to wear this one.  Every single time.

ANYWAY, so...3rd pic...shoes.  Some of you have asked what shoes to wear with maxis in cooler weather, aka what else besides sandals, and honestly I'm not sure.  I pinned an outfit from Jean of Extra Petite in a maxi skirt and flats that I thought was cute.  I think this could have worked with flats if my arms weren't bare--that part makes it all look a little strange I think.  Soooo, pretend that jacket has sleeves...cover up the top half with your hand or something and just look at the bottom...does that still look weird?  I hope not because I already wore an outfit with a maxi skirt and flats that I'm posting tomorrow.  Haha!

What's your take?  Ideas for other non-sandal shoes with maxi skirts/dresses?

For those who need warmer clothes, dress #2 is a sweater dress!  Also, the necklaces below are all under $10 except option #1 which is kinda pricey...but cute, no?  :)

  2. I'm not sure what I would wear with a maxi besides sandals! Actually the handful of times I have tried to wear a maxi, it's been with wedges because I always feel too short to be wearing one! I've yet to find a maxi I can wear with a flat shoe of any kind. Cute dress- looks super comfy!

Also, I was wondering if you have any more group link-ups planned? I loved doing the remix one!

  3. Desperately trying to figure out what shoes to wear with long dresses and skirts- my toes will freeze off if I wear sandals in the morning when it is like 40 degrees! (But it is 90 in the afternoon!)

  4. I have a hard time wearing anything but sandals with a maxi, unless it's a wedge. Your flats are adorbs, but I look awful in flats (boat feet) so that's not an option for me. Cute necklace!

  5. I wore a maxi dress with ankle boots this week. It gave me a more fall-ish feel. :)

  6. Love the triangle necklaces! Depending on how you wear the maxi you can totally get away with boots.
Here's an example: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/138556126009227717/ This girl wears it with a scarf and the boots look great with the overall look. I think cowboy boots would look really good with a maxi too.

  11. I like the vest with the maxi dress :) I wear ballet flats and boots with my maxi dresses sometimes, I don't think it looks weird :) I do most commonly wear them with sandals in warm weather though :)

  12. We are twins today! I wore a black dress with my utility vest, and added a touch of leopard, too! I generally opt for flats with maxi dresses, or knee high boots. I'm thinking booties or oxfords could work, too.

  13. Audrey, the outfit looks Fall-ish, thanks to the cargo vest! Also, the bright toenails add a great pop of colour to the neutral outfit.

BTW, when is the 'Summer to Fall Outfit' link-up scheduled for?

  14. I think the flats work. Also, a pair of closed toed espadrilles would work too.

  15. Great outfit Audrey. I wish it was still warm enough to wear a sleeveless dress and vest. Loving those animal print flats. Cute.

How about boots...flat riding boots...or casual booties? Then wear thicker tights or leggings when it gets cold. Or maybe it dosen't where you are. Haha.

  17. I finally received my army vest from Old Navy today and can't wait to wear it! You have showed so many ways to pair this vest with almost anything!!! Thank You!!!! I can't wait to start putting it together and will check your previous pictures for more ideas!!! Right now, it's still in the 90's here in Texas so not ready to layer anything yet, but we are finally getting a cool/cold front coming in this weekend so I will break out my new vest!!! I love your blog and I check it everyday!!!

  19. I hadn't even noticed you changed shoes until reading through the comments! I think it really depends on the length of the dress. If it's on the long side, I think low heels or booties could work well. Sandals are still the best option I think.

  20. I wear booties or even knee boots in the fall/winter. I'm in Nebraska though, so it does get COLD!

  21. I think the flats work just as well as sandals, without having to cover up anywhere else.
