Fall Shopping: Fun Pencil Skirts for Fall

Houston, we have a problem.  Searching for fun fall pencil skirts was a bad idea because now I want them all.  Gah!

Even though in the fall and winter we tend towards darker colors, more muted shades, and more neutrals, that doesn't mean our clothes have to be boring.  Here are some fun pencil skirts besides a basic black, grey, or navy skirt, that are totally fall (and winter) appropriate!

Option #1 - A super fun option if you want neutrals.  I wear my black and white polka dot pencil skirt year round, layered with sweaters, tights, and boots when it's cold, and adding bright colors in the spring and summer.  And it's on sale for $30!

Option #2 - I like how this neutral pattern interesting while being subtle.  It translates well from a professional setting with a button-up or collared blouse to being dressed up for a night out with a black, navy, maroon, or forest green blouse with some shiny jewelry.  It's from Target, so I might have to check that out in person.

Option #3 - Another subtle pattern in a dark maroon and navy.  I love it for fall!

Option #4 - I've always wanted a skirt in this color but haven't been able to find one that fits me well yet.  This one has ruffles in the back to make it more fun than your average pencil skirt.

Option #5 - OMG I love mustard pencil skirts!  It's from LOFT, original price is almost $70 but it's 50% off right now!

Option #6 - I've been looking for a black and white animal print pencil skirt.  I think they're classy and spunky at the same time and translate well from a professional setting to casual and to a night out.

Option #7 - This is originally $65 at LOFT but is 40% off.  Have you guys tried LOFT skirts?  I only recently *really* started shopping at LOFT because of falling head over heels in love with their jeans.  I didn't know they have a special "curvy fit" for pencil skirts, in addition to the regular fit.  I am a huge fan of the curvy fit pencil skirts--here's the link to this skirt's curvy fit.

Option #8 - Striped skirts are always in season in my book!  This one is so classy.

Option #9 - Another striped skirt option if you like larger stripes.

Overall I'd say go for pencil skirts in colors like maroon or berry, mustard, dark teal, and forest green, or for skirts in neutral colors with patterns.  Easy ways to kick up your fall gear without being over the top or overwhelming!  Now, if you like being overwhelming then that's a different story.  ;)

  1. I bought #5 (online) because yes, MUSTARD, OMG. But while I love LOFT pencil skirts (their scuba skirts are my favorite) the color of this one was just ... ugh. It was very brown, sort of a more golden shade of camel. I did not love it. I ended up returning it and finding this Merona Ponte Pencil Skirt at Tar-jay http://www.target.com/p/merona-women-s-ponte-pencil-skirt-assorted-colors/-/A-14588707?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C14588707&CPNG=Women&kpid=14588707&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14588707&gclid=CIvarsyiiroCFQyk4Aod90MA-g, which ended up being just the right shade of autumn gold for me. The quality isn't as nice as the LOFT one, and the ponte is a little clingy, but the price is right and the color is perfect. I wore it with a half slip under it and it looked fantastic.

  2. You made my day with this post. Pencil Skirt Heaven!!!

  3. 3, 4 and 5 are my faves! I for sure thought that the burgundy striped number would be J.Crew and was very suprised to see that i'ts actually from Target! xo

  4. 1,4 ,5 and 7 are my favs!! Such pretty patterns and shapes.I love pencil skirts!

  5. Cute! I like all those ideas, too. :)

  6. I highly recommend this maroon pencil skirt from target! It fits just like the other Merona skirts and it's soft because there's a little wool in it!

  7. I think these are all cute, but have such a problem wearing this style. My pear shape/wide hips means that when skirt narrows toward the knees my hips look even wider than they are. Would you do a feature on skirts that are straight or slightly a-line?

  8. Very, very cute picks. I figured out I should look, but not buy. I end up not wearing them, sadly. So pretty!

  9. Love these!! My friend talked me into buying this skirt from LOFT recently (http://www.loft.com/zip-pocket-pencil-skirt-in-loft-scuba/308305) and I have had so many compliments! She's amazing at helping me shop and recommended I pair it with a chambray shirt. I feel so beautiful in a hot pencil skirt!

  10. Oh goodness, I want them all too!

  11. Pencil skirts are EVERYTHING. I've been wearing mine nonstop for teaching lately. Professional + comfortable = win win!
    xx Abby a geek tragedy
