My New Favorite Jeans

You guys--these jeans.  They are some kind of wonderful.  I've been looking for replacements for my dark skinny jeans and black skinny jeans since I've worn them so much that it feels like a tear is about to rip in the seat area.  Been there, done that (while at church--yikes!), and I'd like NOT to repeat that problem!

Enter LOFT Modern Skinny cut, aka my new BFF.  I have one pair of LOFT jeans that I really like, so when LOFT ran their promotion again for $20 off all pants I jumped at the chance to try my luck with them again in more colors.  They did not disappoint!  I'm hardcore in love with them right now.

My problem with pants is that my hips and thighs are slightly on the fuller side but my waist is smaller, so if something fits my legs it's usually too big in the waist and vice versa.  And while curvy cuts of denim are better for fuller hips and thighs I usually don't have quite enough to fill those.  Like I mentioned in the Wardrobe From Scratch post on Alterations I often have to tailor the seat and waist of jeans.  But these Modern Skinny LOFT jeans fit me like a glove, I don't have to tailor anything, they're really comfortable, the material is not too thin, and they don't lose their shape.  I don't know that I could ask for more in a pair of jeans.

They're on the upper limits of my price range, but waiting for the $20 off promotion definitely helps.  I got them in this rinse wash (looks black in these pics, but they're just reallyyyy dark navy) and in black.  Even after $20 off they're still kind of expensive, but because I have a proven track record of wearing out these two colors (with holes in the seat to show for it) and they are perfect for me I'm willing to spend more for them.  I'll buy one or two less shirts so that I can have perfect jeans, you know what I mean?

View the Collections:

I have been really impressed with LOFT's jean selection because they have four different cuts of skinny jeans: the normal Modern Skinny or Curvy Skinny cuts and the Modern SUPER Skinny and Curvy Super Skinny cuts.  Plus they have straight legged in Modern and Curvy, boot cut in Modern and Curvy, and boyfriend jeans, and they come in a wide range of washes.  Oh, AND all in regular, petite, tall, and maternity sizes.  I mean, SHEESH, right?

If you have more than "slightly bigger" hips and thighs, try the Curvy Skinny.  And if you have thin limbs they also have the normal Modern Super Skinny, or the Curvy Super Skinny for those with bigger hips but thinner legs.

Anyway, I sound like I'm in a commercial, but NO, I'm just in love.  :)  <3 <3 <3

I think it's safe to assume that jean shopping is difficult for most people.  Like I said, my problem is bigger thighs and bigger hips with a smaller waist.  What are YOUR problems when jean shopping?

  1. You look great in those jeans. Want want want!
but oh, the jeans problems! Where should I start?
I'm like you with enough difference between hips and waist so that most jeans (and all kinds of pants really) don't fit. In addition I'm only a 5", so all jeans are too long as well.
The really weird thing though is that due to some muscle issues, I easily get a stomach ache and need to wear jeans with a high waist to avoid "nagging" the muscles when I sit. It's a weird problem, but the solution is fairly simple. Not easy while shopping though ;)

I love this look. So effortless and classic. Especially adore the color block bag. You incorporated fall 2013's big leopard print trend, too! Color me impressed :-)

I love this look! So effortless and classic. I especially love the color block bag. You even incorporated one of fall 2013's biggest trends, leopard print! Color me impressed :-)

  5. I, too, love these pants. They wash well and don't bag out at the knees.

Interestingly, I am not that curvy (thin rectangle here), but somehow they fit me perfectly!

  6. I need to try those on. My body is shaped a lot like yours, but I also have big calves, so the super skinny legs are just not good for me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Do you wear the super skinnies or the regular skinnies? I think the super skinny cuts are made for your shape.

I also love that they don't bag at the knees! OR the butt. It's so annoying when they lose shape!

  8. Your problem is also my problem. I love Gap's curvy fit jeans but I haven't seen them in skinny since a year ago and I think they all sold out really fast. Other than that, Gap does a really straight cut in jeans and pants and that doesn't work for me.

Oh and I have huge calves too. Sometimes I can't even find out how the skinny jeans fit because they won't go over my calves. Maybe I should switch to straight leg.

I will have to check out the Loft! Has anybody tried Levi's 529?

  9. I have the same problem with fit: small waist, wider hips and thighs. I'll have to keep these in mind, they look great on you!

  10. I LOOOOOOOOOOVE these jeans and have a pair in four colors. LOFT occasionally runs a 40% off or 50% off the entire store promos. Usually they are in-store only, but SO worth the drive and the wait in line.

  11. I have a similar problem with hip and thigh to waist ratio and I found some skinny jeans that I really like the other day at Target. They were the Denizen by Levi brand and they were $29. They fit PERFECTLY. I'll have to check out the Loft Jeans as well. I don't always have the best luck their with pants.

  12. I have the opposite problem! My waist is bigger, so I have trouble finding jeans that are skinny enough in the calves and don't bunch around the knees. I also have trouble with the lower rise, because my hips aren't keeping the jeans on, so I have to be careful about my jeans staying up and appropriate! It's awesome that you found a fit that works for you! I was very excited last weekend because I got 2 pairs of great-fitting jeans at Limited!

  13. I've never comment, but I read regularly...I LOVE these! Perfect cut, and just the right amount of stretch. Also, I love that they are not too low-waisted. I bought a black pair on the 40% off promotion a few weeks ago. Do the denim
fit any different than the colored jeans like they do at old navy and sometimes gap?

  14. These pants look great on you! I need a pair of black skinny jeans so I'll definitely be checking out LOFT!

  15. The Modern Super Skinny is made for people with thinner limbs. I have no experience with them though, since I don't have that problem hehe. Great that you found jeans at Limited though!

  16. Oh man. I need to wait for those sales! I now have this cut in 3 washes and will probably get at least one more. :D <3

  17. My biggest problem lately is getting my calves to fit in skinny jeans. My waist is small, my thighs are huge, and my calves are big. Occasionally I will find jeans that actually fit the waist and hips, but will be suffocating my calves. I've had too many experiences of trying on a pair of skinny jeans and not being able to get them past my calves-- even when I size up! It once took me going up six sizes to get a pair to get past my calves, but by that time, I was swimming in them in the waist. I'll have to give Loft a try the next time I go to the mall!

  18. YES, I tried the olive pair of Modern Skinnies and they ran huge! Also, the material was thinner and maybe more stretchy...(not totally sure).

  19. I have the same body type, and just bought two pairs of jeans from the INC line at Macys. One is a curvy cut and the other (which shocked me) is a straight fit, which I normally can never squeeze into. They're super comfortable and fit great...I even had to buy a size down in the straight ones!

  20. I found a pair of curvy Levi's (I think they're 529's) at Kohls and I LOVE them!

  21. Hi everyone. Audrey, I just found your blog last weekend and I think I've read every word. Glad you like your LOFT jeans! I used to work there and here's a secret: NEVER buy LOFT full price! There are too many sales of 40% off store (and more often than any other store I've ever seen) 50% off store-- even extra 40 and 50 off sale, that make LOFT one of the most affordable stores to shop at. (Employee discount is 50% so it's better to shop sales than work there! Also, the LOFT/Ann Taylor card gives fairly good perks. --And I've also made your blog my homepage! Keep up the GREAT job!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow, thanks for the tips Sara! I don't shop at LOFT often but I've been starting to more, and the prices were my main deterrent. But with your handy secret I might be wearing more LOFT clothes in the near future. :) Also, welcome to the blog!

Those jeans look so GREAT on you. Congrats on finding the prefect pair. I know how that feels :)

  24. I have the same problem that you have, which makes me want to try these LOFT jeans! (I'm going to exercise self control because I know I have enough.) I've actually had the best luck at The Limited and Express. I found two pairs of J Brand from Marshall's that I love, too. Express probably ranks as my favorite place to buy jeans. Like you, I'm willing to spend a little extra on what's probably the biggest wardrobe staple of all time, right? :)

  25. I recently got LOFT's curvy straight, also in rinse wash. I love them! They're almost skinny jeans, just a little looser in the calf. I got them $20 off, too; I wish I had waited until they were 40% off but oh well. I'll be wearing them a lot this coming fall and winter.

  26. I discovered the Modern Skinny and Modern Straight cuts last fall, and snapped up 3 pairs of denim and 3 colored cords when they were on 40% off. Crazy? Maybe, but I finally have a wardrobe of jeans that fit me properly, instead of a wardrobe of jeans that *almost* fit me properly. Big difference.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks, Monica! I'll definitely have to give these a shot!

  28. Those jeans look amazing on you!

  29. How do you keep jeans this color? I have bought several pairs with a dark rinse and seem they seem to lose the color after washing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You look great in those jeans. I have the same hip/waist issue so I'm definitely going to visit LOFT soon

    ReplyDelete
  31. Regular skinnies, but in petite...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I literally just fell in love with Loft pants a few weeks ago too! I loved the fit, so I got some gray jeans and cords too. I think jeans that fit well are definitely worth the price, especially after discounts!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've bought (and loved) a couple pairs of jeans from LOFT over the years, but I don't think I've ever tried their skinny jeans. Thanks for the tip! They look great on you.

  34. I recently bought some jeans from Dorothy Perkins ( from their website). I am only 5 ft tall but have between 28-29 inch inseam. Their skinnies are more high waisted. They come in petites and for the first time ever I found jeans that fit. They run more true to size, go by the measurements on their site. I had to size up a couple of sizes from what I might wear at the gap or old navy. The price was good too!

  35. I heard that LOFT redesigned their pants, I need to check them out. I have the same problem with pants....thicker thighs don't match with my small waist! So annoying.

  36. You are so right! Those jeans are super super flattering and so is that top! It really goes make an outfit when it fits well!

  37. Audrey, I agree with you when you say that you'll buy one or two less shirts so that you can have perfect jeans. I usually spend more on jeans and trousers than on tops and shirts just because I like to have good quality basics.

    ReplyDelete
  38. They are lovely jeans! When I find jeans I love I tend to splurge and get a few pairs too, haha! :) I'm lucky a high-street brand here sells jeans that fit me perfectly in a bunch of styles and washes so I can always pick up something there if I want a new pair :)

  39. These jeans are the perfect fit for you! Love them! Loft is actually having a $50 off of a $100 purchase right now!! Go get a couple more pairs! Blessings! Susan

  40. Small waist, enormous thighs. I've discovered curvy junior jeans, which work pretty well for me. I'm not curvy enough for women's/misses curvy (I have a pancake butt), but I have just the right curve for juniors curvy. Although I have a pair of curvy bootcut from LOFT and love them, so I guess it depends on the jeans!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have the same issue. Petite, but with larger thighs. Seems like for all my efforts to workout, I get man thighs instead of dancer's legs! I have never been a fan of skinny jeans for that reason, but I just discovered the Old Navy Sweetheart Skinny. Love! I can wear my "real" size, and they fit over thighs and don't all down. Plus you can't beat the price, especially during sale. Since skinny jeans aren't my go-to pants, I didn't really want to spend much. I don't know though, between these pants and my new cognac boots (thanks for recommendation!), I may have a new look!

  42. I have the same problems you do with my waist-hips and I have found LOFT pants to be the best fit! I will definitely have to try their jeans next time they are on sale.

  43. My trouble with jeans is almost always with my thighs. I love, love, love the LOFT pants. I get their e-mails to check on the sales, and just got some gray Curvy Skinny jeans for $35.

  44. I love when I find a great pair of jeans. I think it's totally worth splurging a bit on jeans that fit well, especially if they fit well and you love them.

  46. When jean shopping, my problem area is the "waist" of the jeans. My actual waist, near my belly button, is quite small, but most modern jeans hit at the poofiest part of my body because the low-rise style comes right to the lower belly area. If I can find a pair of jeans that hit a little higher up on my waist without looking mom-jean-ish, it's a happy day!

On another note- I have those same leopard flats and love them, but find it tricky to wear them. I will most definitely use your outfit for inspiration. Thanks!!

  47. Okay, it's official, I *have* to get to Loft soon to try on these jeans! I have the same problem areas...fuller in hips/thighs, but smaller waist. I like being a little more curvy, but dang if it's not a PITA trying to find pants sometimes. TFS!!

  48. What % cotton are the jeans?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have a problem finding jeans that fit, too- basically the same problem you mentioned- too much difference between hips and waist. I found Eddie Bauer's curvy fit works for me. :) Now I finally found jeans I can order online & know they will fit.

  50. You can sift through my past outfits with leopard pumps and easily substitute the pumps for flats instead: http://www.puttingmetogether.com/search/label/animal%20print%20pumps

  51. Girl, we have the same exact problem! My waist is tiny but my hips are huge! A lot of jeans fit great at first, but then become too loose in the seat and I stop wearing them. I like them nice and tight. Jeans with a higher rise are my favorite to hide my muffin top. I've never bought anything from LOFT and I don't really need more blue jeans yet but when I do, I'll definitely have to try them out!

  52. Thank you! This is so informative! i'm in need of some good, new jeans. I typically buy GAP jeans but after losing weight i'm such an odd shape right now, bigger in the waist and thinner in the legs and booty. I'm going to try out some loft jeans.

  53. Those jeans look so good on you! I've never tried jeans at LOFT (I mostly go there for work clothes), but I'll have to give those a try sometime!

  54. Oh gosh, pretty much everything about jeans shopping is the worst. I'm thick in the waist and like a higher rise, but I don't have big hips or legs...plus I like my jeans to be quite skinny (to tuck into boots!) AND I have long legs...so finding jeans is hard. I hate when they get saggy and bunchy in the knees. I will need to try these jeans out and see how they work for me!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. It sounds like we have the same problems with jeans...which pairs did you get at Limited?? I am desperate for a new pair of AWESOME fitting skinny jeans!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I got the 312 fit slim bootcut jeans and then I got a pair of the 678 skinny jeans in polka dot print. I'm hoping to get another pair of the skinnies in a normal denim color, or maybe black.

  57. Thanks, Andi! I will need to check them out!!

  58. I had saved this post in my blog reader to go back and check out these jeans and when I did today, they are 40% off!! That's even better than the $20 off, so you might as well get another pair :) I'm not sure my size exactly though so I may have to pop in the store to see.
