Faking Fall

Earlier this week Kendi talked about dressing for fall in the south: neutral colors and bare limbs.  My thoughts EXACTLY.  Since it's still 75 degrees here that is precisely what I've been going by, if you haven't noticed.  More neutrals and darker colors than usual lately.  And fall bags.  Can't forget those!

I've been using this bag lately because I like the look of it, but I do not love its function.  It has too many buckles for my lack of patience, which is why I was looking for a replacement.  I've hardly used this bag at all, so I'm probably going to sell it.  Maybe the many buckles will not be problematic for someone more patient than I haha.

And speaking of bags, when I got home later today I found this on my doorstep.  Caroline from Caroline's Day was kind enough to pick up a Phillip Lim bag for me and ship it to me!

Are you full on dressing for fall already, or are you faking it like we are over here?

  1. This is a great 'fake fall' look! Vests are so versatile. It's still relatively mild where I live, but it's definitely cool enough to pull out some light fall layers and boots.

  2. Super cute!! I would definitely wear that entire outfit. :)

  3. It's getting chillier here in mid atlantic especially inthe mornings, but I still haven't gone for layers with cardigans or boots...hoping to save those for October! Until then just finding creative ways to layer...yesterday's: denim shirt belted over orange pool-time sundress...got lots of compliments. Denim was a great way to transition that summery dress to fall.

  5. How sweet that Caroline did that! I wanted to tote version of this but was too late to my local Target.

  6. So sweet of Caroline! That bag is adorable! Can I tell you a secret? My buckle bag is a fake. The buckles are just for show and it closes with a magnet. Try find one of those. I always end up not closing my bag properly if it takes more then a second!

  7. That new bag is so cute, how lovely for her to send it to you! :)

I like the neutral tones of your vest and accessories against the striped dress :)

    I love it.

  9. These buckles are all magnetic, there's just a lot of them and the bag is shaped such that it takes a lot of effort to close them still, especially for being magnetic.

  10. The vest is an excellent way to fake - just chop off the sleeves of a jacket I consider very "fall", and you're good to go! Neutrals too - I've been doing lots of those in short sleeves because it's still in the 70s-low 80s here too most days, and then when it drops for a day I go nuts with the layering to take advantage of it. (Also because I get cold when I'm used to summer weather, ha.)

  11. How much and where are you selling that bag? I'm interested!

  12. Still mostly in the 90's here in Texas. Fall seems pretty far away to this CA transplant, so I'll have to think about how to fake it for a while! Thanks for the ideas.

  13. Here in Texas we're still dealing with 95+ degree weather so no sleeves for me. I can't wait for scarf weather!

Thank you so much for doing a vest roundup! I've been looking for one for forever and so many of these were on sale/clearance! I just ordered #7 because it seemed the shortest (#petiteprobs) and used a promo code to make it $13.50. Hoping the embellishments will come off. Thanks so much!

  17. Hi Audrey, love your blog! We have been having proper fall weather here in England - or autumn as we like to call it ;) It's definitely layering season when the temperature for walking my daughter to school is way lower than what we get in the afternoons.

A lovely internet friend was telling me about her October Dress Project, and I immediately thought of you - I wondered if you would ever be up for something like that, and thought how you would completely rock it if you took part! Anyway, take a look at her blog and see what you think of the idea! - http://octoberdressproject.blogspot.co.uk/

  18. I love the military style vest! It looks so good with the stripes!

  19. I bought #7 on your list, the Decree Military vest from JCP. It was on clearance at my store for $11! I removed the gems from the collar that are simply stitched on (too much for my style). Great quality and exceptionally good price!

  20. I got number 3 for roughly the same price and did the same thing! Jewels, not my thing.

  21. They will! I got number 3 (also JCP) and was able to remove them, they're just stitched on. I don't get those embellishments, but the vests themselves are great!

  22. Such a cute look, I can't wait to wear my vest with my striped dress, it's such a "fall-y" outfit!

  23. It's not actually Fall until Sunday but I do love the vest. Thanks for the inspiration!

  24. I've been faking it! I bought a similar knit vest from Target a couple of days ago, so I can't wait to wear it! I like the look!

  25. Totally faking it in eastern NC!

  26. We're definitely still faking fall in Alabama! I like the idea of neutral colors and bare limbs--great compromise!

  30. Still in the 90's here in Las Vegas, but we're supposed to "cool" down to the 80's next week... that's the emergency of fall here! LOL!

  31. You are so lucky! No one shipped me a Lim bag! You have good friends. I love the utility vest over the nautical striped dress.

  32. I'm glad you posted this style of vest. I bought one from JC Penny (the one pictured as #7) for only $3, but then had "fashion block" & couldn't think how to wear it. :)

  33. audrey, here's the correct link for those who don't want to search old navy's website for #1(your link goes to the plus size version). http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=98796&vid=1&pid=648307002

  35. I just came back from SD a few days ago, and just used my vacation days to use my bright colored sundresses one last time before I had to put them away (I live in NJ). I'm the worst at figuring out how to dress during transition seasons though.
