Two Ways to Wear a Striped Pencil Skirt

Sometimes it seems like remixing your clothes can get complicated.  How do I know which colors I can wear this with?  What if I can't tuck, knot, or belt my clothes because of my body shape?  How many things can I layer this piece with?  How do I know what kinds of accessories go with this?  All that is fun to play with, but having a versatile closet and mixing up a piece can also be very simple.  Today I'm showing a simple change up with a striped ponte pencil skirt worn casually and for work.

I kept the changes simple to show that mixing up a piece doesn't have to be complicated.  I paired it with a black tee and other neutral pieces for a casual look.  For an office look I simply switched the tee for a black button up and added some black pumps and a wine colored bag.  A black button up for a black tee is not revolutionary by any means, but it works!  And really, that's what you need your clothes to do for you--just work.

  1. adore striped skirts

  2. I love these looks. I never though of pairing a striped skirt with a simple tee.

  3. I'm such a fan of pencil skirts. They work with so many items! Loving your striped one!

  4. Love this striped skirt. I bought one from the Gap last Fall and I love it. Love the different ways you styled it and how you kept it simple.

  5. Hey if something works, why fight it. You look great in that pencil skirt!

  6. I love figuring out looks which are basically the same with the same color scheme, but one is more casual and the other is more dressed up, like you did here. That's why I made sure I have a good collection of solid color tops, both nicer and casual. It's so easy to just switch out and change up the accessories a bit depending on the occasion!

  7. Love they way you makes things so easy to understand (especially with the visual).

  8. I love this! It's so basic but it makes your skirt more versatile. The more duty your items have, the less clothes you really need!

  9. I LOVE pencil skirts. I just ordered a black and white striped one. I usually wear just a t-shirt over top of my skirts, and after visiting your site...tucking in! I think I was too scared to do it, but I found it quite flattering. Thanks!

  10. Just thought I'd leave the link for a Canadian source of a nice looking striped skirt http://www.sears.ca/product/l-atiste-stripe-knee-skirt/619-000965194-LAT_LS1099

  11. I really love that skirt and how you make it easy to remix your clothes. I have a lot of shirts and blouses in the same colors, but this is a great way to dress them up or down.

  12. I love having clothes that I can wear as casual pieces and as work clothes!

  13. Although I'm a sucker for office wear, I really like how you paired your brown flats with your leather jacket. I'm coming around to black and brown together, so classic looking!

  14. Love both looks! I think they both work so well. Some skirts really aren't versatile enough to pull off the casual and work look as well as this skirt!

  15. I love both ways you styled the skirt! I JUST bought a black and white striped pencil skirt about a week ago and now have more ideas what to do to dress it down. Thank you!

  16. Both great looks! This makes me want to buy a striped skirt now...

  17. You did such a great job styling! I love the causal one better! :D

  18. You should try both of these outfits with your cobalt blazer, I bet it would work also :)

  19. I love your black button up - I'm looking for a similar one myself this fall. I have a striped skirt like this as well and love remixing it for casual and work-appropriate settings. Having a versatile closet is so important to me, and since I don't have a lot of money, it's great to be able to mix and match the pieces that I do have to get the most for my money :)
