Courage and Comfort Zones

I took a cue from one of Merrick's outfits and paired my crazy pants with a cobalt top.  Simple enough.  Except that these pants are not simple.  When I bought these pants a few months ago I said wearing them took every ounce of courage I had (see post here) and while I'm still kind of shy about wearing these pants, it felt slightly less risky.  Emphasis on slightly.  I don't typically buy pieces that I'm not totally sure I could wear regularly, but I do feel like it's good once in a while to get a piece that will push me out of my comfort zone.  Know what I mean?

While it can be a little terrifying, and while I'd still consider myself a wuss when it comes to these pants, there's something fun about the challenge and the growth process that it invites you into.  I can't tell you how many times I've stared these pants in the face, often even putting them on and then wussing out.  But each time I do it, in spite of the wussing out part, a tiny ounce of courage grows inside of me.  Those tiny ounces eventually add up to something that is strong enough to push me out of my comfort zone, and slowly but surely what was once a step out of my comfort zone becomes my new normal.  But you've always gotta start somewhere!

  1. i love your pants... A LOT!!

  2. This outfit is so cute - and not at all crazy! You MUST wear it out!

  3. Wow, you look awesome in those pants ! I would be scared too, I still hesitate to put a leopard top, so imagine a bottom ! But seeing how good you look, I might "slightly" move out of my comfort zone "eventually". :-)

  4. Aw, thank you! And don't worry, I DID wear it out. It just took a billion days of chickening out before that. :)

  5. It's funny, but I swear the outfits I feel are the most "risky" for me are usually the ones people love the most!

  6. I find when I put on patterned pants, I don't want to wear them because they make me feel like I'm wearing glorified PJ pants, but I love love them on others. And these are actually VERY flattering on you! Love the look. Maybe I can grow brave eventually with the patterns!

  7. Don't think of them as your crazy leopard pants. Think of them as your black and white graphic trousers, then they won't seem so scary. You look really good in them though!

  8. Such a great outfit! And I know exactly
how you feel, that's what I feel like when I wear my coral pants...sometimes
you just have to suck it up and try to where it with confidence :-)

  9. I feel the same way about wearing printed pants! But it does get easier every time I wear them!

  10. I have the second pant and I totally know how you feel. I usually pair them with a white or pink simple tee, but thank you for inspiring me to pair it with a cobalt top I have. Love the outfit Audrey :)

Dont' forget to link up tomorrow for my weekly tres-chic fashion thursday link up.

  11. I love crazy, patterned pants! It's a trend I am definitely getting behind.

  12. This is a great outfit! I chicken out a lot, but mostly when I mix bright colors together, I am still getting the hang of it. Hopefully one day I will work myself up to patterned pants!

Oh I LOVE these pants! I bought some gray leopard print pants a few months ago to wear to our roller derby bouts because they're so fabulous, and I'm loving the burst of confidence and sexiness I feel when wearing them!

I love a good printed pant! They look fabulous on you and I really like them with the cobalt top. Keep rocking them girl!

  15. I totally know what you mean! I felt the same way about my first pair of colored pants. I don't know that I could ever be so bold as to wear printed pants. I really like the ones you're wearing on you, they're super cute and I love how you styled them! I love seeing bloggers I admire getting out of their comfort zones, it inspires me to do the same!

  16. I like how the top is straight in the front and longer in the back. Great color!

  17. These pants look great on you, Aubrey! Pairing printed pants with a bright top is always a good idea! =)

I hope you are having a great week so far!

  18. Those pants are the cutest!! You're making me want to find a pair of printed pants for myself.

  19. I'm the same way! I JUST recently (as in the last few weeks) ventured into colored pants after hearing you rave about them here and seeing all the possibilities. Printed pants might take a bit longer. I think printed pants that are more business-like, like the examples from Gap above would be much easier to style. I don't know if it's the length or the material but I have a hard time buying patterned pants for casual wear. Maybe someday...

  20. I love them!!! And they look great with that top!

  21. I admire your courage! I have a pair of camo skinnies I bought this winter, and I feel like I go through the same thing when I go to wear them. (Except I don't wear them out of the house.) I'd love to know why you hesitate to wear your pants. They look fantastic on you, and make your legs look super lean and like they go on for a million miles!

I feel the same way about printed pants - they just scare me! I love colors and pattern mixing but something about having a full print all over just is hard for me. These pants look great on you and you should wear it more often :)

  23. these are so gorgeous!

  24. I really like those printed pants! I had a pair of pink leopard print pants I was a little unsure how to wear, but over time, like you said, you get more used to it! :)

    Away From Blue

  25. Love, love, love this look! Those pants are awesome and work well with the blue top.

  26. You look super cute! And you are so working those pants!!

  27. Audrey, you should not feel shy because that is a rockin' outfit. You look gorgeous!!! I love how you let the pants be the star of the ensemble and kept the top and jewelry simple.

  28. Love the black, white, blue combo. I have a similar look on my blog, except it's a blue top paired with a black/white striped skirt. Please check it out when you have a chance. :)

  29. This is TOTALLY unrelated, i know, but just out of curiosity: have you ever dealt with finding your color type (aka finding out if you're a spring, summer, autumn or winter type)?

Audrey, sometimes one's gotta take risks in fashion (just like in other aspects of life)! And must say, your risk paid off! :)

  32. I totally get the scariness of these pants--but I admire your courage, because they do look awesome on you!

  33. I think the cobalt with these pants is a perfect match! Don't be scared, you look rockin!!

  34. Okay I LOVE those pants!! I can't find them anywhere now! Is there any way I could buy them from you?! :)

  35. I'm definitely serious! Hopefully we are the same size!! Crossing my fingers!
