Toughen Up Lace

And after all that talk about the black lace tank top, here's an outfit with the white one.  I wish I could pull off lacy, girly looks, but I generally feel like lace is too soft and girly for the type of energy my personality exudes.  It's like it doesn't match me or something.  However, I think I've learned how to do lace in a way that I feel suits me by pairing it with more structured pieces to toughen up its delicate nature.  Like in today's outfit I appreciate the bit of structure and harder texture in the necklace, though the colors are soft.  But my ultimate favorite is pairing lace with leather like in my bag, shoes, or jacket.  How do you all feel about wearing lace?  Anyone else feel like you need to toughen it up a little?

And remember to link up next Tuesday, July 30th for One Piece Many Ways!

A leather jacket toughens up even the girliest of fabrics. You can never ever go wrong with a simple leather jacket! (Or so I have learned... I am here to learn from you, not to give advice - also, thanks for conjuring the rebuilding your wardrobe series. It has helped me so much these past couple of weeks!)

  4. cute!! not sure what size tank to order as target is all over the map for me and rarely fits. How tall are you and what size do you usually wear?? I am 2-4 P and like my tops no longer than 25 inches for the most part. 5'2....

  5. Okay, I need this tank top after seeing three of your posts feature it. (I'm amazed that every post was wildly different, too!) I was doing pretty well fighting the urge until I saw the price. Seriously, for something that cute and reasonably priced, how can a girl say no?

  8. I'm 5'6", and I bought this in Medium because it's junior's sizing. (I normally get S in adult sizing.) My top is 23" long.

  11. No toughening up lace for me! :) The more lace, frills, ruffles, & pink, the more I like it! :) However, I don't wear it in every outfit for fear of being viewed as a spoiled, high maintenance type. I am a feminine, girly-girl but not high maintenance...is that possible or am I kidding myself?? :)
I don't comment often but I love reading your blog! Thanks for all the tips & outfit ideas!

  15. I'm glad you showed us the white tank - I've been loving the black one that you've worn recently. So smart of you to get both colors! I'm actually headed to Target in a couple of hours so I might be coming home with one :)

  16. I feel the same way about lace. It's pretty, but I've never been super girly so I also like pairing it with something structured, especially leather. :)

  17. I love everything about this outfit! The necklace looks so nice with the top, and the shoes are perfect. I definitely need to get a pair for myself!

  18. Love the idea of pairing leather and lace! I tend to wear lace in a girly way, but the "tougher" style is so cute.

  19. That's a lovely way to pair lace! I always think that wearing it with jeans and darker colours toughens up lace a little. It can be very girly with pastel colours and skirts :)

  25. I'm with you - I love lace, but it's a little too delicate for me to wear in a girly way. I like to pair it with simple, strong pieces to ground it a little bit. This tank is absolutely beautiful, though - I want it for myself!!

  26. Hi Audrey! I have this same top from Target but find that it's a bit short on me. When I lift up my arms even slightly, it rides up so that my stomach is visible through the lace/crochet part, which I am not crazy about. I was wondering if your shirt does this too? Ps. I am about 5'5" and mine is also a size medium.
    Thank you :)
