Diva

This outfit might seem like it is so simple that it would take no thought, but don't be fooled.  Full disclosure:  On the day I wore this...well, let's just say I was a diva and a half.  I try not to spend copious amounts of time deciding what to wear each day, but on this day I went through four outfits (and possibly more--might have lost track) to get to this one.  For some reason I could not just let it go no matter how many times I told myself to just put on some dang clothes.  The only reason I finally left the house was not because I was happy with my outfit but because I was even more unhappy with how crazy I was getting about what to wear.  And what's even dumber?  I was working from home all day, so the only thing that I was really spending all of that energy getting dressed for was to run one errand--a 30 minute trip to Costco.  Yes people, I changed four times for a trip to Costco.  *hangs head in shame*  Say it with me now: D I V A.  Can someone explain to me why we get like that?  WHAT IS THAT ABOUT?

I couldn't find a similar scarf to link you to, but really any printed scarf could achieve a similar look.  The formula: colored pants, a white tee, and a printed scarf that kinda goes with the pants.  Do it with any colored pants and a coordinating scarf.  There are many scarves in the world, but here are a few for some cobalt skinnies that could be substituted in this look:

Old Navy has some of the best scarves. I absolutely love the one you're wearing today. Cobalt blue and orange is one of my favorite color combos!

I love this outfit...it looks great together.
Ps: it's ok to be a diva once in a while :)

  3. I would only consider it diva behavior if you were making your frazzled assistant bring you each of those four outfits only to keep rejecting them while wearing a ridiculous satin & feather robe, holding an impossibly small dog and eating grapes! :)

I get the same way. Sometimes everything I put on just doesn't seem 'right' for that day, time, weather, mood or whatever. And having to take a photo for the blog adds to me changing a few more times so it's 'good enough' for a pix.

I love your end result. Simple but interesting and very cute!! :)

I think we can all admit that we have had one of those days....what makes it worse is that you KNOW you are being crazy but I just don't feel right if my outfit makes me feel out of sorts, ya know?? I love your simple but put together outfits! Scarf is super cute. I don't have very many because I think it can make me look shorter (does that even make sense?) I usually do the same type of outfit but instead of a scarf I switch up my necklace.

Call me a diva too - I've had those days before. But you do look cute even if it's shopping at Costco.

  6. Recently I had posted a question on GCOGH about attaining inner peace. After putting all my clothes on my boards there..and making like a100 + outfits..the first few days I felt empowered..getting ready in 5 minutes flat..always looking put together..but then came the meltdown..I struggled to pick the right outfit for each occasion and time. Like you..I'm super scared of being overdressed and hate to be under dressed with my girl friends..and these days I've lost it again..I was asking all members on GCOGH if they knew what the next step to maintaining that inner peace was..but most felt this was normal behavior :)

  8. I hate that. I do this all the time. Waste precious time figuring what I'm going to wear to take my son to preschool. I try and figure out what i'm going to wear beforehand so this doesn't happen, but I totally know how you feel. Your outfit is perfect, by the way. Love the scarf with it.

  9. That has definitely happened to me more than once as well, where I just stare at my closet for a ridiculously long time, trying different things, but nothing seems to work out of all the clothes I have. SIGH, I don't know why we do it. But your outfit did turn out cute!

  10. Love this look! I'm leery of summer scarves because it gets SO hot here (Boise, ID) that it's totally impractical to wear a scarf, no matter how light and airy, unless you're inside a movie theatre! But this is a pretty simple formula and I love the look! I may have to try this soon!

I think we all experience days like this, I don't think it has anything to do with being a diva. More likely its just being a woman. Love the outfit! I have to try and recreate it!

  12. I've had many days like that. I've gone all diva over what to wear to take my kid to the playground before. I don't know what it is, but it happens to the best of us!

  13. I have 2 vivid pairs of khakis (one in emerald green and another in cobalt blue) and I'm not brave enough to wear them. This trick with a scarf might do. Thanks Audrey.

  14. Today was that day for me, and it never fails to happen on mornings when I'm already running late. I always feel a little bit better knowing it's not just me though, and I love the outfit you ended up with, it's so bright and cheery!

  15. Of course you couldn't find a similar scarf because I.LOVE.YOUR.SCARF! Chevrons, orange and blue. Perfection! Wahhhh!

  16. I don't know why we do that! But I do it too. So, you're not alone.

Looking very cute for a Costco run!

  17. Audrey, you are so stylish! You're not just someone who's poorly attempting to be fashionable, but you ARE fashionable. Good job! Love the outfit!

  18. I'm cryiiiing because I want that scarf! I was just wondering what to wear with my cobalt Capri jeans. Love the orange in the scarf, thanks for the idea!

  19. Sometime it isn't about where you are going. Having a good outfit on even if I'm just going to the shops makes me feel better and more put together. Cute scarf :)

  20. Very cute outfit. I really like the jeans, the sandals and the scarf. You wear them well.

  21. It's amazing what cute accessories will do to an outfit! For some reason, I've resisted scarves, but I think it's mainly because I'm not sure how to wear them. This is a perfect outfit to test the waters in! Thanks Audrey!

  23. Too funny! But I think I know what happened. It's the curse of the white tee! I suffer from a similar curse: http://myclosetcatalogue.com/2013/06/14/week-17-of-well-earned-whingeing-and-white-tee-woes/ but at least you ended up still looking adorbs in your white tee ensemble. :p

  24. Ok, that's not being a diva!! Frankly, I think there is nothing wrong with making sure you feel awesome every time you leave the house. Yes, it can get annoying - I've done what you did so many times, and usually with some kind of time limit hanging over my head. But even if you're just going for groceries, you deserve to feel good!!

  25. as i was perusing my blogs i was thinking "i have no clue what to wear today". thank you for posting this outfit! i'm going to shamelessly copy the entire thing!

  26. Costco was lucky to have you looking so fly!

  27. You would not believe it, my "backup outfit" is just the same! Except with red pants and a printed scarf that includes red :)

And I feel your pain trying to figure out what to wear and taking things off when they don't feel right. I keep an account at polyvore.com to make outfits in advance for those days!
