Old Favorite

Betcha didn't know I was out of town at a retreat center last week, eh?  I wore this one day, and though this may seem a little overdressed for a retreat center for some people, I beg to differ.  I always question keeping this dress until the summer rolls around, and I realize it's my absolute favorite thing to throw on.  (Sans cardigan, of course.)  Don't be fooled, a dress may seem high maintenance or overdressed to some, but for me, a dress like this is wayyyy more comfortable than shorts and a tee.  Is that just me, or does anyone else feel the same way?

On another note, Target has a ton of summer sandals, and I only listed a tiny few of them below.  I want to buy a new pair, but it's really hard to choose!  I'm wearing the first pair below and want to get number two, but I also really like number number three.

*Random note: this dress is black, not navy.

  2. Oh it's not just you. I pretty much only wear dresses in the spring and summer. :)

  3. Personally, I'd rather be overdressed than underdressed. You look lovely! I wear a lot of dresses in the summer too.

  4. Oh, Audrey, I'm so with you. Dresses are my favorite thing to wear year-round, but especially in the summer!! No constricting waistbands, lots of breezy airflow, variety in shape/silhouette, fun colors, look great with or without a cardigan/vest/denim jacket/blazer, etc. They're my favorite!!!

  5. Lovely! I totally don't get why people think dresses are necessarily dressy! It is one article of clothing that completely covers my body while keeping me cool - when it is hot outside, it is the only thing I want to be wearing!

I love dresses and wear them all the time in the summer. They are so much cooler than anything else when it is hot. ;)

  8. I have number six, and I love them! They go with everything, which is why I'm having a hard time picking another pair to buy. I want to mix things up a little bit.

I totally agree about it being easier to wear a dress.

  9. I 100% agree with you, I'd much rather toss a summer dress on. And Target has a TON of cute sandals this season...good luck only buying 1 more. :)

  10. I'm with you on jersey dresses specifically, as well as casual skirts. I so prefer those to jeans and a t-shirt. Yuck. Very cute look :)

  11. YES! I try to tell people that maxi dresses are super comfy and fool people into thinking I'm fancier than I really am.

  12. I want to be able to wear dresses in summer, because I totally understand how they're so much cooler and more comfortable. Well, at least on the days that I'm not sitting on the floor working with children ;) But I really need to build up my casual dress collection. I'm always on the look out.

  13. I've found that LOFT Outlet (if you have one in your area) has great casual dresses for summer and they're usually pretty cheap/running sale. Plus, they run big so you can size down - bonus!

  16. That is the easy breezy dress which not only looks good but also works perfectly well, when you dont have time to put an entire outfit together!

I love dresses for summer! So light and breezy!

  18. I completely agree: dresses are more comfortable AND you look instantly pulled together! As someone who never used to wear dresses, I'm getting in the habit this summer. I've gotten a few "why are you so dressed up?" comments so far, but I'm hoping people realize soon that I'm changing up my summer style for good! Since you were my inspiration for wearing dresses casually, I owe you a huge thank you!

  19. I went and got sandals #3 last night after seeing it on your blog. It's great! I probably couldn't last a whole day in them but they're cute and light. Thanks for blogging about it :)

  20. I wish I could love shorts, but I just don't. But I LOVE me a good casual dress for summer. And FYI, for my b'day I bought your tote bag (Piazza Capri). I cannot tell you how many people have told me they love my bag. And I LOVE it too! :) That front pocket for my cell is just the best thing ever.

  21. ?....What do you put under dresses like these? I'd like to wear nothing under them as they are more comfortable in the heat, but they are so see through. I keep passing them up because I hold the dress up to my eyes in store, and I can see perfectly through both layers.

  22. I feel the same way. I think putting on a dress and a blazer or cardigan is such much more comfortable but I do get the 'you're over dressed today' eye sometimes. I think it takes less time to put together a dress+outerwear than pants+top+whatever else.

I really like number two on the list of sandals. Number three might hurt if the front thick strap doesn't have much give.

  23. Good for you, Ashley! Way to push yourself out of your comfort zone. I don't think those "Why are you so dressed up" questions ever go away. You just kind of have to expect them and be okay with looking cute all the time ;)

  24. Ditto on the shorts! And yay for the tote! My husband bought it for one of my birthdays because I kept ripping through other totes, but this one has totally lasted! My advice for you would be...well, I didn't know that leather bags stretch out (cuz I was used to crappy synthetic ones), so loading it up a LOT will stretch it out. You can tell in my pics that mine is pretty misshapen. But I think there are purse inserts, like a plastic sheet that you can put on the bottom of purses to keep them from stretching too much. I wish I had done that!

  25. I wear a really thin slip from Target. It's really nice because it actually keeps the dresses from sticking to me and it hides bumps and I don't have to think about my clothes being see-through.

  27. Hi!
I found your blog off pinerest and immediately recognized you from the Urbana worship team this year. It is really encouraging to see more Christian women express their love for God and fashion! Im excited to follow you as a fashion blogger and God lover.

  28. I definitely prefer knit dresses/skirts over shorts in the summer. Breezy, comfy, and I don't get all sticky/sweaty the way I do with shorts. And I don't have to worry about them riding up between my thighs when I walk! Depending on the thickness of the fabric, I go without a slip or I wear a thin half-slip that I got at JCPenney. Or bike shorts if it's really hot and I'll be outside/walking a lot and I'm concerned about chub rub on my inner thighs.

When people ask why I'm so dressed up, I have them feel the fabric and say "See!? It's like I'm wearing classy pajamas because this thing is beyond comfortable. Why wouldn't I want to wear it?" And then they usually get it, at least a little bit :)

  29. So cute! I like the dress and sweater together, but it's the belt and sandals that really finish the outfit. Lovely!
I totally agree about dresses being the most comfortable (this one looks really comfy, btw) - they're so easy and carefree. You can look really put together while feeling like you're wearing pjs!
