Pink and Polka Dots

since some of you asked for more side views

This pink top reminds me of how when I was about 16 I swore off pink.  If I recall correctly, I said, "I would NEVER be caught DEAD in pink!"  I grew up kind of a tomboy and though I started wearing heels in high school (yes, high school, cuz I be classy like that), I still didn't want to be mistaken for being prissy.  I wore heels, but I was hardcore, okay?  Black clothes from Bebe, dark brown lipstick and a smug look prove it.  (Like I told you--classy.  A hardcore kind of classy, of course.)  And definitely NO PINK, because as it turns out pink clashes with brown lipstick and smug looks.  Little did I know that by 17 I would be all over pink like white on rice.  And little did I know that 16 year olds could not be trusted.

I found lots of great options for polka dot pencil skirts (except one) so I made another collage.  I think the first one is absolutely adorable and last time I checked it was 50% off!  Number five is pretty dang cute too.

BTW, do you guys like these collages?  I figure it's more helpful to be able to see the item first so you don't have to click through as many "similar" links, but if they're not helpful let me know.  Shopping links below the collage.

  6. I had the same "no pink" attitude during jr. high. Now, it's my go-to color, always. Love your cute & classy look! :)

  8. Love this classy look on you! I think until just in the past few years I hardly wore any color. Last night I was doing a little retail therapy and noticing everything I was picking up was bold or at least not neutral colors! Yeah for me, I'm finely progressing out of that "dark colors are all I feel comfortable in" stage! :)

  10. Blargh! The polka dot skirt I want is the one that's sold out from Modcloth. Curses! I may just grab the F21 version, then.

Oh, and I adore the collage! It's super efficient and super helpful. I'm a collage afficionado myself; use it exclusively on my blog. ;p

  11. Yes, keep the collages! I love them!

How do you keep the shirt tucked in...do you have to buy one that is especially long (i.e., too long to wear OUTSIDE of clothes) in order to keep it tucked...?

  12. Hi Sara! It's not especially long. I honestly don't know how it stays tucked in--maybe because this skirt is high-waisted? Usually if I do any tucking with skirts, the skirt hits at my natural waist rather than a few inches below my belly button. That seems to keep shirts in place. And this particular skirt is even a little higher than my natural waist so I think that's helping a lot.

  13. I know, right? It must be your promoting the thing. See? Collages are amazeballs! I'm gonna hop on over to F21 before that one sells out!

  14. I've tried that but you gotta be careful because sometimes if you lean over and there's a gap between your body and the back of your pants, everyone will totally be able to see your underwear!!!

  20. Your outfit looks great! But I just had to laugh as I bought a very similar (if not the same, but in coral) shirt from Old Navy the other day, but returned it today. I tried it with cardigans and other ways, but kept seeing the part of the shoulders showing, and it didn't look right to me. But for you I don't see it at all, and it looks great! I wasn't able to figure out how to make it more functionable, and wasn't loving it, so I returned it. I am trying to not get what I am not really loving so I can save more for the clothes I do love. I returned it today, and found two v-neck tees for only $1.47. It's great to see this shirt looking great on you though! Wish it looked as good on me!

  26. I love the collage so keep it up! And I am really liking the polka dots - is this skirt black or navy? what color are the shoes - can't tell on my desk top?

  27. Hey Kim! Everything is black, besides the pink top of course. :)

  28. The only thing that pairs with dots better than pink is red :)

  29. Oh, my goodness! Audrey, I wore a polka-dotted navy skirt and pink sleeveless top yesterday! (No, I didn't read your blog before I got dressed.) Maybe I'm spending too much time reading your blog! (Also, happy birthday! :) )

  33. I really like the collages of things that you're linking to. That way, I can see which links I'd like to click on rather than clicking on all of them and waiting for them to load.

I've gone through a love/hate relationship with pink. I was ALL ABOUT PINK when I was a little girl, and then wasn't as drawn to it in middle school. About halfway through high school, I decided pink was my color, and it remained that way until halfway through college. Now, I still like pink, but I'm much more selective about the pinks that I like and wear. I tend to like soft pinks and really bright, bold pinks, but I never want to look like a Barbie explosion :) I really like your top, and the polka dot skirt is absolutely darling!!!
