Neutral Striped Dress Options

Happy Monday!

I thought I'd update you on some of my March Purchases.  I returned a few of the items, including the striped dress.  Though I loved it I had to come to grips with the fact that it wasn't serving the purpose I wanted it to.  It didn't go with as many of my completer pieces (cardigans, blazers, cropped jackets, etc.) so I went back on the hunt for a new one.

I *really* want a neutral striped dress.  Why?  No compelling reason except for the fact that I LOVE stripes.  Stripes are pretty much always "in" and they are interesting without being too in-your-face for me.

Below are some of the dresses I found during my search and what I like about them:

Take a closer look by clicking on the links below:
1.  Loft   |   2.  The Walk-In Closet   |   3.  ELLE via Kohl's   |   4.  Daisy Rae
5.  LC by Lauren Conrad    |    6.  Target   |   7.  ModCloth   |   8.  Sonoma via Kohl's

1.  Loft (shop).  I love that this dress is easy but still has shape to it with the ruching at the bust and the elastic waist.  Perfect for spring and summer.

2.  The Walk-In Closet (shop).  I ordered this dress this weekend to try it out.  I'm hoping the seaming at the bust will help flatter a smaller bust.  Pleats on my hips are hit or miss, so I'm really hoping this one works!

3.  ELLE via Kohl's (shop) - also comes in green and red.  The whole search for a striped dress began because of a dress very much like this.  By the time I was ready to order the other dress it was sold out (DAHHH!).  Similar to the one above, I liked the seaming at the bust and hoped it would flatter a smaller bust.  According to someone that owned the original dress I wanted, it was true!  I think you can take off the red sash and wear it with a number of different colored belts, cardigans and shoes.

4.  Daisy Rae (shop).  I've loved this dress for a long time, but they're out of my size now.  I love chevron, and the subtlety of these stripes and colors makes it really versatile.

5.  LC by Lauren Conrad (shop) - also comes in red.  I like both the red and grey version of this dress!  So cute.  I used this dress in Sophie's Case Study, but I want one for myself!

6.  Target (shop).  This is the dress that I just returned.  It fits so well, but I don't know what it was--it wasn't working with my colored cardigans the way I'd hoped.

7.  ModCloth (shop).  I really love the gathering at the waist for this one, and I could imagine it working well for women with great curves.  I read through the reviews for this dress and though women of all sizes liked it a good handful of the women who loved this dress were size L-2X.  Might be worth checking out!

8.  Sonoma via Kohl's (shop) - also comes in coral.  I am such a fan of maxis, but I don't have many. This one is perfectly casual and neutral, and I think it would be great for day-to-day errands and weekend activities.  It looks so comfy!

Would you try any of these dresses?

  2. I have #2 from JCrew Factory and it's so cute (albeit a tad short on my 5'10" frame)! But still worth it! :)

I feel so "in" right now as I sit here in my black and white striped maxi dress (from Target last year). I love all of these options... These are all super versatile!

  4. I already have so many striped tops/dresses but I still want one. They're so appealing and catchy! I love that chevron one you picked out (4).

  5. I love 5 and 7 so much! I have a dress similar to 1, but it has a boat neck. Even better? Got it at Goodwill last year.

  6. I have #2 from JCrew Factory outlet and I love it. I'm not sure about the others. I don't know how well they would work on my frame. I'm a big fan of stripes though.

  7. I know what you mean. I'm on the hunt for a striped top, but sometimes they fit really well but its just not right...

I vote for any of the ones with sleeves. I'm very self-conscious about my arms. But on you, m'dear? I say 1, 5, or 7. Can totally see you styling these in so many fun ways!

  15. I love the ModCloth one. I've got in pinned on one of my boards. I would order it NOW if I had the budget! I love how it's striped but the stripes on the lower half are angled, which is very flattering for girls with hips like myself.

  18. You're so good about sticking to things that remix well. I always fall for bringing a dress home simply because I love it, although it's easy to get away with wearing a dress by itself in warm-weather LA. I love the look of that Kohl's dress - Asos also has a similar one in striped jacquard: http://us.asos.com/ASOS-Skater-Dress-In-Stripe-Jacquard/zsch9/?iid=2677921&affid=1130&mporgp=L0FTT1MvQVNPUy1Ta2F0ZXItRHJlc3MtSW4tU3RyaXBlLUphY3F1YXJkL1Byb2Qv

  21. I'm obsessed and literally kicking myself for not buying the perfect black and white dress from Old Navy- thanks for some awesome alternatives!

  22. I did get that Target one as soon as you posted it the first time. Too bad it didnt work for you. It's a keeper for me though because it fit over my bust. Any dress that does that is a keeper and the flared bottom is perfect to balance out my heavy top. It's still my favorite out of the ones here.

  23. I just got a Joe Fresh one from JCP. Loving it for having short sleeves and the fit was better than that cute Target one (#6) that just didn't work for me no matter how hard I tried.

  24. I tried that one! I guess we have opposite bodies because the JCP one totally didn't work for me while the Target one fit like a glove. Glad you found a great striped dress!

  25. I love that Asos one! I wish it were a little longer though.

  26. Probably 9 or 10 or something? I'm kind of addicted now and I pretty much do have one in every color. I used to only have 4 and that served me well for a long time though.

  27. I just listed a bunch of long-sleeved striped tees here: http://www.puttingmetogether.com/p/where-to-buy-my-closet-staples.html

  28. I can see myself in #3 or #4. I think you hit the nail on the head with your descriptions. : )

  29. I bought one from J. Crew Factory that looks exactly like #2! It is so adorable. I have worn it already with a mustard cardigan and boots, but plan to wear it this summer with bright colored flats. I am not small-busted, and I think it would look even better on a smaller-busted woman. So adorable!

  30. All of your picks are really nice :) Option no 2 looks REALLY cute, but I'm not too sure how it would fare with my bust.

  31. My favourites are #4, #5 & #7, but then it's not easy to break out of what you know would suit your own body shape, isn't it? I hope one of them is the perfect dress for you, & that it's #2 of course :)

  32. I actually picked up this dress in black and white from Kohl's on Saturday http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1324871/apt-9-striped-empire-dress.jsp I LOVE IT! It's very flattering and lightweight. I had the idea to pair it with a red cardigan and red shoes. Then I also had the idea to do a red belt and red shoes. Now that I think about it, I could probably do many color combo's because it is a neutral dress.
