Crazy Pants

I did it.  I wore my crazy pants.  It may have taken nearly every ounce of my courage, but I did it.

When I first saw printed pants making their way into the trends I winced and braced myself to ride it out until it was all over.  Honestly, I hated them for the first few months of seeing them.  Then finally something clicked and I went all out with this pretty loud pair of that I'm wearing and also bought a second more subtle pair.  How did I go from utter hate two owning two pairs in one swoop?  No idea, but here I am.

I'm realizing there are a lot of ways to do printed pants.  Some of them I still think are crazy, and I admit that I still felt a little crazy in this outfit even though I tried to downplay it all with other basics all around, like a grey tee, denim jacket, and neutral wedges.  But I'm totally loving the more subtle ways to do printed pants that I think are really fun yet can still be very professional.  (Unless you work in a very conservative environment of course.)

Below are some of the more subtle printed pants.  Compared to the ones I'm wearing in today's outfits the ones below seem harmless, and I can easily imagine most of them dressed for an office, but much more fun than your average office look!

Top Row:  Gap  //  NY & Co.  //  NY & Co. - can't see but they have polka dots
Bottom Row: Joe Fresh via JCPenny  //  Gap - "gray print"  //  Gap - "green geo"

Would you ever ever ever wear printed pants?  Even a maybe?  :)

Tee: Target
Jacket: Forever 21 (similar)

  1. I wasn't a fan either until I saw a few people rocking them and now I am on board. I saw a pair at Gap but the price is still a little high. Once I catch a sale I am going all in on the "crazy pants" bandwagon.

  2. I bought a pair of gray LEOPARD PRINT pants and I LOVE them. I have always been against them too, but there's something about the print that makes me feel super sexy. I only wear them when I'm gong out though--work couldn't handle them. :)

  3. I have a hard time buying things that I KNOW I could never wear to work. The exception would be something I knew I would get alot of use out of...like a great retro band tshirt or something. I've had a hard time getting on the colored jean bandwagon for the same reason. *sigh* I might be sold for the right color or print (subtle) at the right price...

  4. I bought a pair last year that I ended up returning because I wasn't bold enough to wear them. I might try again

I have only polka dot jeans and I don't wear them that often. I am still not loving printed pants. It's funny how a printed floral pants seem so bold to me yet I wear floral skirts all the time.

I'm addicted to scarves and ballet flats so that helps too! :) I'm planning on wearing an outfit on Sunday that I kinda was inspired by from YOU. We'll see how it actually looks! ;) I just lost 25 lbs so I pretty pumped! :) Thanks.

You look great!! I wore a black and white pair from NY&Co with a white peplum top and red patent leather heels. It was such a fun outfit!

  20. I just got into the colored pants trend a few weeks back (thanks to you in no small part!) so I think printed pants are a ways off for me... they look awesome on you though!!

  23. I'm honestly still not sure about the whole printed pants look just yet, though I HAVE seen some adorable floral shorts lately that are just screaming, "Buy me and wear with a sandal-wedge!" I might just give in.

  24. I love this outfit!! Different from your usual (which is right up my alley!) but it majorly works!

  25. I think I'm still a little scared of animal print pants, because they seem so "loud", but I like how you paired yours with basics to tone it down. It seems much more doable.

I got my first pair of printed pants not too long ago that are the tribal herringbone print from Loft, which is more subtle, so it was a good way for me to ease in. And I love them. I ordered a pair of floral skinny pants that have yet to arrive, but hopefully I will have the courage to wear them!

  26. I have one pair of crazy pants - an H&M black and white tribal print and I think they are awesome. I only have the courage to wear them to the bar/club scene though where they may fit in!

  27. That is a crazy super cute outfit!!!

  28. These are great! And extra great with the denim jacket - with all the neutrals, the pants are a great focal point but not crazy in the least. And now I need to get on being brave with the floral jeans I picked up from Target :)

  29. Love those printed pants. I just bought a pair of pink polka dot crop pants. That's about as printed as I think i'll get.

    Agi:)

  30. You look great in your printed pants! I am open to it, but would definitely need to at least start trying some on to see if they would work for me. I like the JCP option!

  31. I love the pants, I wouldn't have the courage to wear them, but you look amazing! It almost gives me the courage to at least try on something like that!

they look ADORABLE on you! It would take every ounce of my courage as well.

  34. I wear printed pants ALL the time - I love them so much! & people always compliment them, even when they're my crazy thrift store ones that look like pjs! But then again, people always tell me they wish they were confident like me to wear colored pants. I wish people would learn to TRY like you did! you look amazing!

  35. I owned (at least) two pairs of printed pants from high school--a super comfy, beach-ready, multi-colored, striped drawstring pair from Roxy and a very tailored, straight-cut, red-orange on dark-orange repeating floral graphic pair from Gap. I loved them both, and often got compliments on them (although my friends mostly sniggered). I still own and wear the Roxy pants (although they are very threadbare) and would love to replace the orange pair with the green ones pictured above. I heart Gap!

  36. Crazy pants are so much fun! I have only one pair (IIkat pants from LOFT), but I love them.

I love how you paired these with a denim jacket and some wedges to make them appropriate for everyday wear. Very cute!

  37. I don't know... I like some of the more subtle prints, but when I tried some on the other day I just wasn't sold on them. My sister bought some floral pants that she rocked, though!

  38. When I was 16, I went on a summer high-school trip to France (chaperoned, french-club trip!). There, in the south of France, there was an entire shop of crazy pants. It was very fabulous as they were stocked with nothing but pants of every color and pattern from floor to ceiling. My friends and I all bought a pair each and wore them to dinner that night, complete with matching white t-shirts (because we were that cool). I have a picture somewhere!! My pair was similar to the gap green ones you have shown only they had more a plaid look with a little yellow and blue thrown in. Sadly, mine no longer fit as that was 16 years ago :( However I have done it before and I suppose I could do it again. The green ones from the GAP you have shown are calling my name!

  39. Great idea- start with shorts. I can do that :)

  40. Recently a co-worker of mine wore some cobalt pants with white polka dots and a black top. It looked really cute and was more understated. Polka dots might be the way to go!

  41. I thought I couldn't pull off patterned pants -- until I bought a polka dot pair and fell in love. I just got some floral ones that are fabulous, too! It's a fun trend. :)

  42. Love this outfit, love your blog!! Thums up, Audrey, and thank you so much for all the style/wardrobe tips. I've read all of them maybe in a single day :) and will re-read. They are so helpful and fun to read at the same time.

  43. No I wouldn't wear printed pants. Not even a maybe! It's a gorgeous trend though with heaps of prints. You're outfit is fun - you totally pull it off and look great.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Audrey they don't look crazy on you at all. You have a classic, quiet look you can definetly pull of some animal print!

  45. I'm so scared of printed pants. Even the polka dot ones that everyone has. You pull yours off fabulously.

  48. Hello! I'm a blog lurker and decided to come out of hiding today to tell you that you look amazing! The pants look great on you; it makes your legs look so long. The overall outfit is so chic in a 'je ne sais quoi' kinda way. I don't have a pair of printed pants myself, but I'm open to it!

  49. Aw, hi Emily! Thank you for un-lurking and for your very sweet encouragement. I really appreciate you taking the time to write and say hello!

  50. Good job - they look adorable! I always like black and white prints with brown accessories.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I felt the same way at first, too! I also opted to incorporate them into my wardrobe in their more subtle version: a red-on-red textured pair from LOFT and a navy blue with small white polka dots cropped skinny pant from Else at Macy's.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Polka dots worked for me, too! They're printed without being PRINTED :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. They are SO cute on you! I had a pair of printed pants from like 1990 that I kept holding on to thinking that they would come back in style--or I would lose enough weight to be able to fit into them again. I finally let them go a couple of years ago!
