Break Out the Bare Legs

Sigh.  I think a lot of you saw last Friday when I accidentally posted a post too soon--the first of the Wardrobe From Scratch case studies.  Darn Blogger brainfarts!  (I did not accidentally hit "Publish"--the schedule function didn't schedule properly, boo.)  It'll go up tomorrow, so stay tuned.  I'm really, really excited and I hope you love it!

Besides that post going up tomorrow, tomorrow I also leave for Madison!  Looks like it's gonna be in the 40s and maybe 30s with rain or some snow, so that means this whimpy Californian is gonna have to shift gears and put away the breezy skirts, thin tees, and bare legs.  Today is my salute to the 70 degree weather before I go back into winter status.  At least I'll be cooped up in a hotel most of the time shielded from it all.  :D

I'm curious again, once I asked at what temperature you all stopped wearing tights and I was fascinated by your responses.  So this time I wanna know...at what temp do you all break out the bare legs?

  1. It has to be above 20C (70F) and also sunny. Maybe I'll try capris when it's 20C and not sunny!

Has to be at least 8-10C (about 45-50F) before I'll go bare-legged -- usually Easter is the beginning-point for me.

  3. I love this outfit! I really want that jacket every time you wear it! I am really inspired by how you pair neutrals with a pop of bright, fun color. Great job!

I wear skirts every saturday to my job as a way to break up being boring with dress pants and i stopped wearing tights 2 saturdays ago...then it was like 60 went back down to high 40s (like 48) this past week and i didn't wear them again!

  5. I went bare legged yesterday and it was only 8c (46F) and raining which I will not do again! 15c (59F) and sunny is a good start for me.

I can't wait to go bare legged -- hasnt happened yet but I'm anxiously awaiting! xo

  7. I'm so glad it was just that it was posted too soon! I thought it might be some weird glitch that I couldn't view it! So yay! Looking forward to that. I think I usually start putting on tights when it drops below 17C and start bearing my legs at around the same temperature, but have never really checked. I know that sounds weird, but we go from really hot to quite chilly and vice versa.

  8. Madison, how exciting! I live in Madison and I went bare-legged for the first time this past weekend - it was in the 40s.

  9. mid-70s for me. I'm not going to be cold.

  10. The temperature is finally in the 70s here in DC, and I, too, whipped out the bare legs. I went a little overboard, because I'm not wearing pants again this week until Thursday!

  11. When it gets around 55 or so, I'm breaking out the sandals and bare legs! We are so anxious for Spring this year that it has definitely happened already. I hate being cold, but I also can only take the layers for so long! :)

  12. I went for bare legs last week. It was 55, sunny with a chance of horribly pale legs.

  13. Yay! I was just thinking about this skirt of yours and wondering when we'd see it again :) I usually feel okay about wearing my legs bare when the temps hit about 50, but it has to be sunny! I was laughing as I walked across campus today - so many students were wearing shorts, and it was only 41 degrees this morning!

Have fun in Madison (and with Fran!)

  14. This spring has been the worst for cold weather... usually March is when capris and flip flops are doable in Iowa... this year, I just started last week and it was in the 50s.. but I have to admit to being CHILLY/Cold most of the time... but the boots, sweaters, tights, and heavy coats are all put away... I have been doing layers of pretty spring stuff.. no flip flops yet, tho! Hope Madison isn't too cold, we are to have a high of 40 degrees on Friday-----brrrrr!

  15. Great outfit! Love the mixed neutrals and how the necklace adds a pop of color. :-)

It has to be at least in the 50's with no breeze for me to break out the bare legs. 60's ideally. I live in Colorado so that's practically summer weather to us!

I'm breaking out the bare legs today! It is around 65 degrees in Boston.

  17. Love this outfit. I can't wait to break out my bare legs. I'm wearing crop pants today and it's cold today. That's about as bare leg as I get. I'm doing a link up this Thursday April 11. Show me your favorite spring trend. Woudl love it if you joined. I'm also giving away a $300 gift card to Gap. Check it out.

Ahahahaha! I must be a wimpy Southern Californian too! Not only am I wearing pants today, I opted out of sandals and into cowboy boots because of this morning's overcast skies and the weatherman's prediction of a blustery 70 degrees.

  19. i'm at the point where i'm so sick of winter i break out the bare legs even when i shouldn't! stinkin nh weather! today's a good day for it though. possible high of 61!

  20. Are you having the strong cold wind too? Where the heck did that come from this morning?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Maricel EdwardsMonday, April 08, 2013

I actually don't mind the wind; it reminds me of my CAL days. I just wish I'd had advanced notice so I could have planned this week's theme more appropriately. I hear it'll climb to the 80s by week's end, though. ;p

  22. Cute outfit! Love the new fad of the tied-up t-shirt with skirt. Adorable.

  23. living in Michigan, it varies...I will wear shoes without stocking/socks when it's in the 50's and dry...I won't break out capris or bare-legged skirts until mid 60's...for me, it all depends on the dryness of the weather, and the wind ;)

  24. I broke out the bare legs last week when it was 55. But I did cheat a little because I was wearing my knee boots!

In TN I like to wait until the weather is a consistent 65 or so before I break out the bare legs. I always have to ease into it though. Today it started at 63 so I work a maxi dress and sandals. I may go get a spray tan before I actually go bare legs with shorts or a skirt this week though

    ReplyDelete
  26. i usually bust out the bare legs at 65. i would really like to know why it is raining in san diego today because that was not supposed to happen and my bare legs and sandals are not happy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You will probably think I'm crazy, but in Texas the weather today is 77 degrees and could get to 80 degrees. I usually don't break out my bare legs until I have a little color. I can't stand to show my legs when they are winter white! When I finally have a little sun tan, then I'm comfortable!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I busted out the ankle pants and crops at the first sign of 60+. I generally won't wear skirts until 70+. My theory last summer was that since the temps will get up to 100+ I should have different outfits for different temps... I'm not sure that worked out how I intended..

  29. With closed-toed shoes, anywhere from about 35-40 on up. It depends on what I'm doing that day and how much time I'll be spending outside. I don't pull out the sandals and peep toes with bare legs until about 55, though. We have a pretty liberal definition of "warm weather" here in PA. :)

  30. I feel most comfortable showing bare legs at 70. Cute outfit! I'd love for you to check out my blog sometime! I love your blog!

  31. You're so lucky to have warm weather already! I only go bare-legged after school is over because we have class in those greek shaped auditoriums and I don't want the professors (or anyone sitting in the orws below me) to see anything they shouldn't :p

    Super cute color combination too!

  33. In the foothills of East TN, I'll wear bare legs for running if it gets up into the 30s in the winter. I'll do bare legs otherwise if it's in the 50s. I prefer a light sweater and shorts to jeans and a tshirt, and hopefully my legs don't look TOO pale because I've tried to run in the sunshine whenever possible over the winter. Sundresses have to wait until it hits the 70s though... today is 76... and the trees are getting leaves... it's finally spring!

    ReplyDelete
  34. 70s if I am wearing a skirt- but I live in GA so that is going on right now! Some days it if is cooler bare legs are ok if I'm wearing warmer shoes (booties, flats, etc. but not sandals).

  35. Yesterday was the first for me. It got up into the mid seventies here in Alabama and out came my shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  36. As with all my clothing/layering choices, the chilliness of the home office dictates, so while it's a lovely 70 outside, I'm still wearing jeans and a blazer in here... until the middle of the summer when skirts and tees will be all I can bear. And when that arrives I'll have to remember this perfect fancy/casual combination of flowy skirt and knotted tee. Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I did bare legs for Easter, with closed toed shoes, when the weather was 55F and cloudy. Bare legs with sandals waited until 65F and sunny. As far as pale legs go, well, I am pale - always have been, always will be.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If the high is below 50, it's skirts WITH tights. Anywhere above 50 and I'm bare-legged, at least w/the skirts. But that's work clothes. The casual shorts don't replace jeans until highs are at least in the upper 60s, probably 70s.

  39. I live in Madison, born and raised! I can guarantee you will see plenty of bare legs here tomorrow, especially if you're on campus at all. What will you be in town for?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Really? The weather says 47 and raining tomorrow, and in the high 30s the rest of the week. I wish it were closer to the weather you guys have been having the last few days. I'm not ready to go back to bundling up!

I like wearing opaque tights all year long to work, even if they are nude. I'm a teacher and I just feel a little less worried about kiddos trying to peep up my skirt when I'm wearing thick tights. But outside of work, I'll wear bear legs any time the temps are 70 or higher here in the Sunshine State.

  45. If it's for work, I need to know I can walk out my door without immediately wanting to go back inside and don a pair of leggings. I'm guessing mid-60s in the morning, high-60s to low 70s in the afternoon. If it's for church, I can handle the lower 60s since I'll be inside for several hours straight.

  46. Ha. Reading the other comments, I've quickly decided that the colder your hometown is, the sooner your are willing to break out bare legs. I live in Phoenix, so 55 degrees is about as cold as it gets most of the winter--although we do get our cold snaps, too.

  47. WELCOME TO THE MIDWEST LADY! Time for rain boots, jeans, and sweaters. and hanging out with me. prepare yourself for THIS.

  48. I'm in Madison too! I think you'll see some shorts too. Especially on boys - there are some crazies that wear shorts all year long. I have no idea why.

  50. I usually loose the tights when we get to about 30 degrees but if we get around zero in the winter, everyone walks around in shorts and tee shirts, it always feels like tropical weather when we get a break from the -50 to -60 below weather. I'm really excited to see your new wardrobe series post tomorrow I always really enjoy those!
Hah, I almost forgot to tell you how much I love your outfit today! The flowy white skirt is just perfection with your brow leather jacket, it's so sweet but so fun and cool at the same time.

  53. over here in Australia, it's more a case of when to break out the tights because it's finally and briefly cold.

  54. I only wait until the high gets up to about 60 degrees to stop wearing tights...so I sometimes leave the house when it is cold without the tights because it is going to get warmer. ;-)
