Little Reminders

Man you guys, wearing light colored pants is scary.  I'm very clumsy, like the kind of person that walks into door frames on a regular basis, but I still brave light colored pants.  I just have my guard up, walk a bit slower, and move more intently to avoid accidents.  But never mind that I managed to not spill anything on these jeans (always a sigh of relief) because ashes from a stone pizza oven at the cafe I was at blew onto me and left these poor mint jeans with black smudges and spots everywhere, front and back.  And the Tide bleach pen was of no use.  BOO.  I wasn't sure I'd be able to recover them, but thanks to some baking soda and a lot of brushing with Shout Gel Stain Remover these babies are back to their minty fresh selves!

On another note, I want to thank Lisa Leonard Designs for this beautiful necklace.  I love love love all the hand stamped customized jewelry from Lisa Leonard, but I chose this very simple dog tag necklace and customized it with "a new thing."  Sometimes I'm inspired by quotes, stories, or names of friends, and this phrase comes from a scripture passage that has been a source of hope and encouragement for the last 8+ years.  I often play with my necklaces through out the day and when I wear this one and catch myself grabbing it I'm reminded that hope and encouragement!  Do you have pieces that serve as encouragement or inspiration like that for you?

  6. I used to wear white skirts all the time but have avoided pastel pants like the plague. Maybe it's time to try some! :-)

My favorite piece of jewelry is the birthstone charm necklace from The Vintage Pearl. A charm for each of my boys. :-) I probably wear it the most often of all my jewelry.

  7. Ahahahaha! I'd just gotten my haul in from F21 yesterday and I'd ordered - in my usual size - a pair of mint, light blue and light pink skinnies. And they all looked too tight. There's something about light-colored bottoms that makes the "Warning!" sign flash for all of us, I guess. I don't worry so much about spilling as I do looking like a stuffed sausage. Back to the store they go!

  9. I too am accident prone! I have had white jeans on my "shopping list" for a month or so now and cannot bear to buy them because I fear they will just be ruined in the first wear, or wash, or however you can think to destroy something light colored.
This is a very cute look though, I am adoring all the stripe and color combos I've been seeing around!

  10. Omg I'm the same way! I wore my mint jeans for the first time and I somehow got a black mark onto them but I have no clue how! My tide pen didn't work in that case either so I had to use the advanced shout out. haha.. worked like a charm! ;)

    Love this look!

  11. That's a gorgeous necklace! I have a silver infinity bracelet with Corinthians 13:4-7 on it to remind me to remember to live my life with love. I give you credit for the light colored pants... I just got my first pair of colored pants (bright pink) and am loving them so far.

  14. I always wear a chain with four pendants: two with the first initials of my children; one that's a heart design called "A Mother's Love" by James Avery; and one a circle pendant with the first and middle names of my great grandmothers, grandmothers, mother, me, and my daughter. Very inspirational, very dear.

  18. Wow! I'm glad you were able to get the ashes out of your pants! I hate when my clumsiness ruins my clothes. I accidentally got hooked to a hand rail and tore an irreparable hole in a brand new sweater - UGH!

I love the story of your necklace! I definitely have pieces that serve as encouragement/inspiration. I wear a ring on my right ring finger most days that says, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." As someone who has a passion for social change, this ring is a constant reminder for me to do the good I want to see. I also have a necklace that I inherited from my grandma when she passed away almost 3 years ago. When I wear it, I remember how selfless and family-focused she was, and how incredibly generous she was, and it's almost like she's with me again. It makes me want to make her proud of me and the woman I've become. I absolutely love having pieces like this.

  19. My best friend and I met in Junior High, and then her family moved. We've always kept in touch, even if we didn't talk for months at times- no fights, just living separately. We've always relied on each other, and when I took her to work one day when she was visiting, a co-worker who I'd told our story to said it didn't look like we had spent one day apart, ever.

I came across Louise Rose's Etsy shop one day and saw this bracelet: (http://www.etsy.com/listing/119351916/long-distance-state-bracelet?ref=shop_home_active). I ordered one for each of us, with my state (the one she left, and misses), California, on one side of the heart, and hers (the one I'm dying to visit for its coffee, breweries, and my favorite author), Oregon, on the other. I shipped it to her, and we both wear ours every day. Conveniently enough, she wears hers on her left wrist, and I wear mine on my right!! It reminds me of friendship and of eagerness and hope- the latter because I'm visiting her in 6 weeks after 4 years of not seeing her! :)

  20. I love it! Great post :) I have a super awesome ring that belonged to my grandmother that I love to wear when I work (I am a photographer) because she was a creative and thoughtful woman and I like to honor her when I am creating.

  21. Oh, I bought those pants but they didn't work for me, darn!! I love the color and and hoping to find another brand. Something tight but less clingy, maybe a stiffer fabric. I wear white jeans all the time so it's time to branch out to a color!!! The outfit you put together looks fab.

I have some jewelry favs too. My husband buys me a nice, usually-vintage piece with every child I have...I'm up to five now! :o) I wear them at different times, and think of that child. Also, I have two silver Tiffany pieces: the tag bracelet that each of my girl in-laws have, and a heart necklace that my sisters and mom have. I feel like part of a great "club" when I wear these pieces. :o)

  27. Haha! My necklace is based on Isaiah 43:16-19. In a nutshell, my family's a mess and always has been and I felt the Lord speak this to me as a promise of healing and redemption. It's been a long and slooooow process, which is why a reminder like this necklace is so necessary to keep going.
