Childrenfolk

Top: Forever 21 (shop, similar)  |  Jacket: Forever 21 (similar, similar)  |  Jeans: Target (similar, similar)  |  Shoes: Target (shop)  |  Necklace: Nordstrom (similar, similar)

When I showed up to a baby shower wearing this it so happened that I was twinsies with my friend's 3 year old daughter.  She was in a blue tutu and a white ruffly top with her toenails painted green.  A little later into the party a 4 year old stared me up and down and said, "I like your necklaceeeee...and I like your pants!"  Let this be a tip.  If you wanna win big with the childrenfolk then just be sure to look like you came out of a crayon box.

This weekend consisted of a friend in town, the zoo(!!!), finally hearing the lion roar(!!!), a girl's night out, celebrating Chinese New Year aka stuffing our faces, and watching Pitch Perfect again.  Did I mention I was in an a cappella group in college?  Watching that movie is like reliving my college days, aca-awesomeness, aca-awkwardness, and everything in between.

P.S. This is the replacement to this lace tee--finally!  Find it at Forever 21 here.

I'm eying a pearlized white moto jacket for spring... I think I'll get a lot of wear out of it, but do you think it may be too trendy???

  3. Hysterical, I love munchkin compliments. I'm also THRILLED that you had such a good zoo experience, I think late winter zoo trips in the south are the way to go to see all the good stuff!

  10. Jealous that you can show your arms in February. It is way to cold where I live to do that! I love your lace top. I could see one fitting nicely into my wardrobe :)

  11. Hi Audrey. I've just discovered your blog and found it inspirational. Am looking through your posts and thinking about my wardrobe and what I want to wear. Two questions- 1. What are your tips for dressing for cold/ raining weather (living in UK don't get to wear little tops and jackets much!) And 2. How do you store clothes and accessories. Thanks Lottie

  13. I'm just dying over that lacy tee! Sometimes I just love the simplicity of a plain white tee, but this just kicks it up a notch. Also, I'm so glad you like Pitch Perfect. It's pretty much my favorite movie - watch it with the commentary some time - it's so funny! I am SO jealous you were in an a capella group!! That is my dream. For now, I'll just resort to singing and having dance parties for one in my apartment, ha!

  17. Is the necklace still available at nordstroms?

  18. Nope, I bought it two years ago, which is also why I didn't link to it. The closest matches I could find are the ones that I linked to.

  20. That's too funny - but I do notice a lot of attention from children when I wear statement necklaces. Little girls think they're great, and babies are mesmerized (excellent for practicing their hand-eye coordination). LOVE this color jean - such a great pop against the pretty lace tee.

  21. I went to school to pick up my 1st grade daughter and a girl, a student, said to me: I like your shirt. I was wearing a gray sweatshirt with a chalky-looking drawing of Ursula, the sea witch.

Pretty fashionably kid you are, I thought. :p

  23. I totally feel left out because I didn't buy one of the lace tops. They look so pretty on you and Fran!!!

Were college acapella groups really like how they portrayed in the movie? I thought it was a good movie, but was kind of annoyed that all the non-white characters were so caricatured.

  24. Love your blog, what college did you go?

  25. A bunch of my friends were really bothered by how the two Asian girls (roommate and quiet-talker girl) were portrayed, though they decided they still liked the movie anyway.

As for the acapella stuff--welllll, every movie like that is kind of an exaggeration of course. On the west coast stuff isn't really like that, but I've heard that for many collegiate acapella groups on the east coast things really are that serious and act kind of like fraternities and sororities in nature.

The acapella competitions are real, and they were even using the real title for them--ICCA's--and most groups compete in them. We did! Though, most groups on the west coast don't get quite as wound up about them. But I wouldn't be surprised if groups on the east coast were really that serious about competitions and initiations and such. I *think* (really need to check on this one) there's a longer tradition and history of collegiate acapella which is why they are a little more serious, plus you know, the west coast is just more laid back in general. For the record, I've never heard anyone say "aca-scuuuuuse me?" and probably everyone would want to punch them in the face if they were to seriously say that.

  26. I just want to thank you again for finding this shirt. I'm actually wearing it right now (and may again tomorrow for take one pass it on) and I know I'm going to get so much wear out of it. Thanks lady :)

  27. Yeah overall I liked the movie, but yeah a lot of the characters were totally over done, though I guess it was a comedy and shouldn't be taken too seriously. And Anna Kendrick plays a terrible alternative DJ too-cool-for-school type, but I had no idea her voice was so amazing.
