Recap: Red Blazer

Red Blazer options: one, two, three, four

When this red blazer entered my closet last year, I had no idea I'd be able to wear it so much.  This inspired me to get more colored blazers, so I've now ventured out to a striped blazer and my latest addition, a pink blazer!

My favorites are definitely outfits 2 and 3.  The rest of the outfits use some pretty tame colors, but 2 and 3 put a little pep in my step.

Are you into colored blazers?

  1. Audrey I love all of these outfits. I'm surprised at how versatile your colored blazers are and it makes me want to venture out and purchase my own!

  3. I'm still trying to find the right colored blazer. I tried the red from Old Navy, but I didn't love the fabric, style, or the color (I'm a redhead, reds are hard for me to get right). So now I'm searching for a balance between the right price and the right blazer. This may be a problem for everybody, but I have a problem with the shoulders with a lot of blazers. They fit me everywhere except are a little tight in the shoulders, especially when moving my arms forward. Is this just something people have to deal with in blazers, or is this my body being just slightly awkward sized in that area? I can never decide if I should order a large, which would probably be good in the shoulders and bigger everywhere else, or stick with my usual medium with slight shoulder tightness. Suggestions?

  4. I saw your red blazer at Old Navy the other day and ALMOST bought it. But if I'm being honest with myself, I love blazers but I just don't wear them, at all, and a RED one? Yeah, that would never get worn.

I do love how yours looks though! And these outfits are great :)

I think the leopard is my fave! But #3 and #7 are up there, too! AND, I actually bought a red blazer a few weeks back thanks to your inspiration! :)

  6. I'd say keep looking or find a blazer that fits the widest part of you and tailor the parts that don't fit well. I personally try not to settle on blazers where the shoulder is too snug because I know I will get annoyed and not really wear it. Another thing you can try is ponte blazers, which are made of the more stretchy, sweatshirt-like material. That will give you the stretch you need in the shoulders and they are quite comfy but still have the nice structure of a blazer.

  7. Hi! Love your blog! I am trying to create my "own" style and you are such an inspiration! I have been searching for a good quality pair of riding boots similar to yours but am hesistant to spend the money yet...if you don't mind me asking, how long have you had your boots and how are they holding up for you?

  9. oh, and I forgot to add - the next time you do a recap, can you link to the specific posts so we know where you got certain pieces/ see them close up? there are certain outfits I want to repin (besides the whole thing) since I have the pieces right now to recreate :)

  11. I'm sure you get this comment all the time but I just wanted to let you know that I truly appreciate and am inspired by your features showing how to wear one item so many ways! So many bloggers refuse to repeat a piece and your approach is much more realistic for those of us looking for help to upgrade our own outfits! Please keep blogging, you're a wonderful style inspiration! Thank you! :)

  12. Hey Anna! I bought them in Dec 2011 (I think) and as you can tell, I wear them OFTEN, and they're still going strong.

  13. Thanks so much for taking the time to write, Christina! It's always an encouragement to hear how the blog has affected someone, so I really, really appreciate it!

  14. I'm down with creepy. (No, but seriously, I am, because if recreating a bajillion of someone else's looks is creepy, then I'm a creeper all the way with Kendi.)

  15. Definitely! Thanks for the feedback--I wasn't sure if that would be helpful for people or self-indulgent haha.

  20. You had asked if that tribal cardigan from my store is warm. I'd say it'll keep you warm but its not too hot. I wore it with a tank underneath when it was in the high 50's and sunny and I was fine. And then I wore it with a long sleeve top underneath over Christmas when I was in the snow and I was a little chilly outside but not super cold. I think it kind of depends on what you layer with it. It's a medium weight cardigan.

  21. You forgot the outfit with the red blazer and orange pumps! That was one of my favorites! (Though maybe it wasn't in 2012 and that's why it isn't in the recap.) :)

  22. Hi there. I'm new to your blog and I must say this is the only blog I'm following because our style is so similar it's scary. We even have some of the exact pieces and wore it the same way!!!! I love the fact that you embrace the Lord and know that you can look sexy and classy fully dressed. I love that you shop at affordable stores and repeat the same piece several ways because that is what clothes is meant to do. I just bought 2 colored blazer and that is my last purchase for the year. I'm trying to shop my own closet for a whole year. Pray for me because I'm a shopaholic:)

  23. Oh, wow, blessings on that! I don't know if you've seen Caitlin's blog, but she didn't shop for all of 2012 and blogged about it: http://greaterthanrubies.net/ I think reading about her journey will be really inspiring as you start your own!

Also, if you haven't yet, I would utilize Go Chic or Go Home (http://gochicorgohome.com/pub/welcome-putting-me-together-readers). Every single time I play with my clothes in their virtual closet and see all the ensembles I have yet to wear, I don't feel like shopping for another 3 months. It really helps you see how many clothes you have and all the possibilities that are sitting around in your own closet.

  24. Thanks for that site I will check it out! I did the hard part over the holidays and organized my closet. Now I need to take pic of every piece and upload it right? This seem so overwhelming because I have alot of clothes but I guess it's worth it!

  26. Thanks for the inspiration on styling my red blazer in new ways!! I would love to see how you style the striped blazer as I have just added one of these to my closet but I'm not sure how to wear it!! :)

  27. I just found your blog on Pinterest and I'm already a huge fan. I was so excited when I saw the pin that a friend pinned because I instantly recognized you from that mega conference you just helped out with :) I am so grateful that I was able to be blessed by y'alls team as a student in '09, at staff training this summer, and this year as a staff bringing students with me who were blessed as well! As someone who holds a degree in apparel design (that I don't really use at the time being) and also tries to be thrifty on a staff workers budget, your blog excites me so much! thanks for being an inspiration and light to so many women!

  29. Audrey, any chance you might do a how-to post on color? Looking at the outfits on this post and the mustard cardigan post, you've put those key pieces with WAY more than is obvious and they all work! Besides flat out matching, how can you figure out what colors can go together so you can avoid looking like Rainbow Brite?

  31. Hi Lexi! Yes, I am definitely going to try to write something on color in the upcoming series. I have some basic ideas for color concepts, but I'm still trying to figure out how to break down concepts beyond the basics. Your question helps me focus on what people need help with, so if you have more specific questions on colors please continue to shoot them my way to give me some insight as to what to help troubleshoot!
