Statement Necklaces and Stripes

Top: Shade Clothing (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Cardigan: Target (similar)  |  Jeans: Old Navy (similar)  |  Necklace: c/o Bubble Necklace Co. (shop)  |  Belt: H&M  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

Oh man, you guys.  It's been a very full week, with both good things to celebrate and sad news to be bummed about.  I haven't posted much because I've basically worn Target v-neck tees and shorts all week, topping it off with this necklace from Bubble Necklace Co.  I know these J.Crew-inspired necklaces are all over blogs right now, but what was more appealing to me was the fact that I could have a smattering of yellow sprawled out all over me, because like I've said before, I'm a little obsessed with yellow.  And I love how huge this necklace is because it easily and quickly gave character to all the plain tees I wore this week.  It doesn't get much simpler than that.

In case you thought I was brave enough to wear a white tee with white jeans, I hate to disappoint you, but this tee is peach.

Hi-Low Trend?

Dress: Target  |  Orange pumps: Urban Outfitters (shop)  |  Necklace: c/o Sway Chic

If you follow me on Instagram (moomooaudrey) this outfit might look familiar.  I wore it last week when B and I went out to celebrate our 4 year wedding anniversary.  Every year we go out to eat ridiculously good steak instead of getting gifts and doing nice things for each other because, well, our real love language is food.  I don't need a kiss, just give me steak.  Nom nom nom.

The hi-low trend.  If you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, a hi-low garment is when the hem is higher on one side than it is on the other.  I don't know if I'd say I'm a fan of it, even though I'm wearing a hi-low dress.  First of all, I swear hi-low dresses were big when I was in high school.  Does anyone remember that, or was I just way ahead of my time?  :)  Secondly, I guess I don't see the point.  Maybe I don't quite understand them yet?  Haha.  However, I love this dress!  Not because it's hi-low, but because the color and print and blah blah is so ME.  And it's another piece that goes with my orange pumps.  Booyah.  It just happens to be hi-low, and I'm mostly neutral about that part.  Are you guys into the hi-low trend?  If so, tell me why you like it so much.  Sell me on it, peoples!

No Hesitations

Top: H&M  |  Red blazer: c/o Daisy Rae Boutique (similar #1, similar #2, similar #3)  |  Shorts: Forever 21  |  Wedges: Target (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)  |  Necklace: c/o Sway Chic

There are so many colors I feel like I have to avoid with red.  Cuz, you know, I have that weird fear of not wanting to look like popular holidays and such.  Red and green--Christmas.  Red, white, and blue--the American Flag.  Red and pink--Valentine's Day.  Red and yellow--McDonald's.  Even though I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone and worn all of those combos, I'm relieved to say that this current combo of red, white and grey was something I could easily get behind, no hesitations.

Color Poppin'

Top: Old Navy (similar #1similar #2)  |  Skirt: Forever 21 (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Wedges: Target (shop)  |  Necklace: Old Navy

I have been wanting to recreate this pin for sooooo long:

I don't have a schnazzy neon bag or rockstar hair and makeup, but I love the outfit that came together nonetheless.  What I learned from this girl's outfit is that super simple pieces can be made into an interesting outfit with color choices.  So, while it's difficult to use layering to make an outfit interesting in the summer, playing with color is a different route you can go to spruce things up.  A simple touch of an orangey-red pendant against her blue top combined with a bright yellow bag make her outfit pop!  I tried it with my green top and yellow pendant and loved the freshness of it altogether!  AND, for some reason it feels soooooo dang good when you finally recreate a pin that's inspired you for so long, you know what I mean?

Summer or Fall?

Top: Swapped (similar #1, similar #2)   |  Shorts: Loft  |  Sandals: c/o Shoetopia (shop)  |  Necklace: Old Navy (similar)  |  Sunglasses: JCPenny

Style bloggers and magazines are already talking about fall fashion, but I'm trying to ignore it.  I swear that last year in San Diego we missed summer...like it was gloomy and 65 the whole time.  And now that summer finally started (in August--better late than never), it'll probably bleed into October.  Plus, I always find myself longing for the next season and hardly enjoying the current one.  SO, I'm trying to enjoy it.  The good news is that everyone is clearing out summer clothes, which means I could buy two pairs of shorts for $10 each in an attempt to embrace summer.

Is anyone else trying to soak up the remains of summer, or are you all feenin' for fall?  (Alliteration not intentional, but I kept it there anyway.  Teehee.)

Clean Out

Dress: Target (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Cargo vest: Old Navy (similar)  |  Wedges: Target  |  Belt: H&M

I clean out my closet every few months, but right now I'm doing a major clean out, and it's sad.  Now that I'm more than a year into blogging I feel like I have a good handle on what kinds of pieces I want in my closet.  That's good news.  The sad part is that I have a ton of clothes staring me in the face that were mistakes I made along the way, especially early on.  Perfectly good clothes that just aren't for me.  Sigggghhh.

If I can ever get my butt into gear, I will list them online so that they can find a better home.  I'm curious, how often do you guys clean out your closets?

Staycationing and Anniversarying

I know, I've been slacking on the outfit posts lately.  Contrary to what some may suspect, it is not because I am pregnant.  Sorry, folks!  Since two weekends ago until now, real life has just been full of goodness and it whisked me away before I could take outfit pics.

If you follow me on Instagram (moomooaudrey) you might have seen that last weekend I was in Chicago, locked in a recording studio for 11 hours a day.  Then I jumped into all day meetings last week, straight into a mini staycation this weekend to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary!

The pics above are from this weekend, from left to right, top to bottom:

  1. Padres vs. Giants game.  Even though it was a home game for the San Diego Padres, half the stadium was filled with Giants fans...like my brother and I.  Muahaha.
  2. Petco Park, watching the Giants kill the Padres 10-1.  Bam.
  3. View from the hotel we rented in downtown San Diego.  It's pretty fun acting like a tourist in your own town, especially when you live in a tourist magnet.
  4. Lounging by the pool--the adult pool, separate from the family pool where kids are allowed.  The difference?  The family pool had murky water, filled with who-knows-what from kiddos while the women's bathroom on the adult side reeked of weed.  Tough to pick a winner.
  5. What I wore to watch an impromptu comedy show, similar to Who's Line is it Anyway?  Fun times!
And along the way, we ran into people that we knew three times through out the weekend.  I guess that's what happens when you staycation in your own town.

Normal outfit posts and blah blah blah should resume later this week!

A Strong Shoe

Top: Forever 21  |  Jeggings: New York & Co.  |  Necklace: c/o Sway Chic (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)  |  Shoes: c/o Kemi's Avon Store (visit Kemi's site; click "shop," search "Zipperback Mircowedge")

Can we talk about shoes today?  I once read in People StyleWatch an article analyzing how Charlize Theron's signature style was an outfit of basics topped off with a strong shoe.  That stuck with me, how a shoe can make all the difference.  But if you haven't noticed by my large tan shoe collection, I haven't quite adopted that mindset yet.

My dear friend Kemi is an Avon rep and offered to send me an item to feature here, so to experiment with the "strong shoe" idea, I chose these gladiator sandals.  (And yes, Avon sells clothes, not just makeup!)  I was hesitant, though, not knowing if I could pull them off or if they'd even fit.  I winced when I put them on, immediately followed by me shouting at to B, "HOLY CRAP!  These are freaking comfortable!"  And three more times after that until he figured out how to tune me out.  I also LOVE how much personality they add to a normal outfit!  They took my old top and jeans outfit up a few notches and made it feel fresh.  AND they're on sale for $19.99 for an "end of season sale," though I will easily transition them into fall.  I think I'm in love, and maybe this will give you guys a little break from all my tan shoes bahaha.  :)

What do you think?  Would you wear gladiator sandals?

Easy on the Dressing

Dress: Target  |  Belt:  Target  |  Flats: Old Navy (shop similar)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

No, the title of today's post is not about salad dressing.  I'm talking about the days you want to look nice but don't have enough alert brain cells to do it.  I had a loooooong weekend in Chicago being locked in a recording studio for 11 hours at a time, ending at insane hours of 2am and 4am.  Needless to say, I was a zombie.

I dug up this old outfit post from another zombie-like day last week.  It's a very similar look to the last time I featured this dress, but instead with some animal print, because animal print always makes it look like you tried.  And of course, on one of the days that I put the least effort into getting ready my co-worker tells me how nice I look.  See, animal print = magic.  Even with a dress that feels like pajamas.  Are you into animal print?

Yellow Fever

Top: H&M  |  Cardigan: Old Navy (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Skirt: Forever 21 (similar #1similar #2, similar #3)  |  Belt: Target  |  Pumps: Target

What is it about polka dots that make me instantly want to pair them with yellow?  They just seem right together.  Or maybe I'm just into yellow lately, so everything seems right with yellow.  That's strange for me to say because growing up my mom said her favorite color was yellow, and my 6 year old self cringed and judged in disgust of her choice.  Didn't she know yellow Starbursts and yellow gummi bears were the worst in the bunch?  Blech.

Also, a year ago I thought yellow was a color I couldn't pull off.  Turns out there are a lot of different shades of yellow (duh, but...yeah) and while one shade may not look good, others totally work!  I just had to keep an open mind until I found the shades that worked for me.  And it turns out, yellow Starbursts are aiight.  Yellow gummi bears are still gross, though, FYI.  Is there a color you think you can't pull off?

Sway Chic Review

Tank: Old Navy  |  Skirt: c/o Sway Chic (shop)  |  Cargo vest: Old Navy (shop similar)  |  Sandals: c/o Shoetopia (shop)  |  Necklace: c/o Sway Chic (shop)

Look familiar?  I told you yesterday that I wore this outfit for most of the weekend!  I just threw on a cargo vest instead.  A cargo vest that you need to buy, btw, if you were ever thinking about it before.  I told someone they'd go quickly and a week later they are now sold out of XS and S online!

A lot of you commented yesterday about this skirt.  Sway Chic contacted me asking me to review their store, and this skirt and the necklace were the items I chose.  They have brick and mortar shops up and down California (hollaaaa) and are now selling online and wanted to get the word out.  Besides this skirt being majorly comfy and this necklace being really cool, Sway Chic also has great prices!  Their pieces are fun and unique and super affordable, so be sure to check them out.

What stores have you been diggin' lately?

Tank Tops

Tank: Old Navy  |  Skirt: c/o Sway Chic (shop)  |  Denim jacket: Forever 21  |  Sandals: c/o Shoetopia (shop)  |  Necklace: c/o Sway Chic (shop)

I spent most of the weekend in this outfit hosting friends in town, watching the Olympics, and if you follow me on Instagram (moomooaudrey) you may have seen that I stole a kid and took her to the zoo.  For some reason I'm hesitant to wear tank tops for normal outfits because to me, they are workout clothes.  Why do I keep forgetting that all you have to do is throw on a scarf or a cool necklace and pair it with some fun sandals to make a tank top outfit look pulled together?

Anyway, I was going to write about how I LOVE watching the Olympics, but I need to get to work.  For now, remember to enter the latest giveaway to help bless a girl in Mexico!
