Double Duty Dress

Dress: Old Navy (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Jacket: Old Navy  |  Clutch: DSW (shop, more colors here)  |  Teal necklace: Nordstrom's  |  Sandals: Target (shop)

If you follow me on Instagram (moomooaudrey) you may have seen two weekends ago that I posted some pictures that included a chubby baby and this yellow dress.  We were reunited with our best friends and their baby to celebrate our other friends getting married!

Not only did I need a dress for an afternoon summer wedding, but it needed to do double duty for the post-reception "classy casual" backyard party.  This dress passed the remixing test, as I was able to dress it up with some delicate jewelry and white wedges for the ceremony and reception and then dress it down with a cropped jacket, sandals, and a fun statement necklace for the party.  I found it so versatile that there will be a One Piece Many Ways post on it tomorrow with three more looks!  Stay tuned.

Blazer BFF

Dress: Target (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Navy blazer: H&M (similar)  |  Orange pumps: Urban Outfitters (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

I'm pretty sure I copied this look from Kendi.  But I don't know why I'm bothering to tell you that since pretty much all my outfits are copied from Kendi.  So, let's move on.  Blazers and dresses.  Yet ANOTHER reason to love blazers.  If you haven't gotten the picture by now, blazers are a girl's best friend.  It doesn't matter what size or body type you are, if you find a blazer in the right cut it can be your secret weapon in taking an outfit up a notch.  Wear it over dresses, dress up jeans and a plain tee, dress up shorts, or wear it for work.  It will be your BFF 4 life.  (Hmm...looks like a One Piece Different Ways blazer edition needs to come soon...)

Besides watching some of the Olympics, we spent the weekend building Ikea furniture.  I know, we are old and boring.  Maybe that's why I have blazers for best friends...

Blazers and Shorts. Woot.

Blazer: c/o Daisy Rae Boutique (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Top: H&M  |  Shorts: NY&Co.  |  Wedges: Target (shop)  |  Clutch: DSW (shop, more colors)

Blazers and shorts.  Another combo I lurve.  (That was "love" very enthusiastically, if you didn't catch that.)  Just another reason for me to love blazers.  I've had these shorts for a while, but I couldn't figure out how to make them interesting or stylish.  Left to their own devices, I almost feel like I'm ready for a safari when I wear them.  I think a bright blazer and a contrasting top does the trick, though!  Such an easy way to make shorts look chic.  Blazers and shorts--would you wear that combo?

Have an awesome weekend!  I'm looking forward to whipping our master bedroom into shape!  Yessssssss.

Teals, Greens, and Home Decor

Top: Old Navy (shop)  |  Skirt: MNG via JCPenny (similar #1, similar #2, )  |  Pumps: Target (similar)  |  Necklace: c/o Eclectic Ornaments (shop)

I guess I'm on a blue/green/teal kick.  I don't think I ever used to wear colors that were next to each other on the color wheel, but it's like once the floodgates opened, there ain't nothing stoppin' it.  I particularly find it wonderful because I've always loved teal and green hues and could never really choose between them.  Now I can just wear them all together!  Would you wear similar colors together?

I wore this to a friend's going away party a couple of weeks ago.  Yes, I am a little behind on outfit posts, but whatever.  In current events, we're redoing our master bedroom!  Not remodeling, just a decor and furniture overhaul, but exciting nonetheless.  It's the least put-together room in the house though it's where we spend the most time.  I'M SO EXCITED!!!  Seriously.  Yesterday was our first trip to Ikea for step 1 of the overhaul and I was giddy all morning in anticipation of getting this ish done.  If you guys have suggestions for decor / home organization blogs that you love, please share!

Guest Posting at Kacie's Kloset

Remember how yesterday I told you I'd show you how to remix the top I was wearing?
It's been a while since I've done a One Piece Many Ways post, but today I'm guest posting at Kacie's Kloset demonstrating how to wear the top for four different scenarios!

I had a lot of fun with this post, so I hope you enjoy it.
Pop on over to Kacie's blog to say hello!

Also, Bloglovin' has been funky for me the past few days and switched up the URL that connects to my blog, so I'm trying to fix that right now.  Don't mind me and this weird code that I have to put in to claim my blog: Follow my blog with Bloglovin.

Stares

Top: c/o Daisy Rae Boutique (shop)  |  Jeans: Gap (shop similar)  |  Belt: Target  |  Wedges: Target  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

A couple of weeks ago, I posted an outfit with an aqua dress and a bright yellow cardigan that I wore to have lunch at my friend's company and talked about how it felt a little weird (and fun) to prance around in that while everyone else was in neutral business attire.  Though it was fun, when I visited my friend again I decided to dress a little more..."grown-up"?  Haha.  Plus, I love business attire!

I knew full on business garb wasn't necessary since I was a visitor, so I chose trouser jeans, which I love for casual business style and for the summer since they let your legs breathe.  And this top from Daisy Rae is becoming a perfect summer top for me as it can be dressed up or dressed down.  Turns out it was casual Friday, so it didn't matter either way.  But I still got some stares, so maybe I'm just funny looking or I had a booger on my face.  You'd tell me if I had a booger on my face, right?

Stay tuned for tomorrow when I'll remix this top four different ways!

Borrowed

Top: c/o Shy Boutique (shop)  |  Pants: borrowed  |  Orange pumps: Urban Outfitters (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

White jeans.  I love them.  Sadly these are not mine; they're borrowed.  I try to avoid saying that I *NEEEEED* a particular item so as to cultivate gratitude in my heart instead of taking all that I have for granted, but hot dang, it's hard not to tell myself that I need some white jeans.  Suffice it to say, I would really, really like a pair.  They're on my list, but since I haven't found the right pair yet, I borrowed some because I thought they would go perfectly with this fun, summery color blocked top from Shy Boutique!

I think a bright top like this with white jeans is a great, easy peasy way to wear jeans in the summer.  Plus orange pumps, of course.  How would you wear jeans on a cooler summer day?

Fashion Finds - Mint Bottoms

Hello, and happy Friday!

Even though I've linked to some mint jeans at the bottom of my recent summer packing post, some of you have still been asking me about them, so I have two more options to draw your attention to.

And, both of them are 15% off when you use the code PMT15 at each respective store!

I love this shade for mint jeans from Shy Boutique.  If I didn't already have a pair, this is what I'd probably get.  And if you use PMT15 for 15% off, they're less than $36.

These aren't jeans but they are adorable paperbag shorts from Daisy Rae Boutique!  If paperbag shorts looked decent on me I'd totally get them.  With 15% off, these are less than $25 and can be your go-to for the rest of the summer.

I had a third item I wanted to show you, which was a super cute yellow dress I picked up from Old Navy yesterday, but they don't carry it in yellow online anymore!  Boo.  Instead, lookout for a One Piece Many Ways post on it in a couple of weeks.  Until then, I'll be wearing it at a wedding this weekend.  Besides celebrating our friends' marriage, I'm also excited because we'll get to see our best friends who are coming from 12 hours away!  Follow along on Twitter and Instagram if you like!  What are you guys up to this weekend?

My new summer outfit formula

Top: Target (shop)  |  Shorts: Target (similar)  |  Sandals: Target (similar)  |  Necklace: Nordstrom's  |  Clutch: DSW (shop, more colors)

Being that the weather in San Diego seldom deviates +/-8 degrees from 70 degrees, I'm glad when I get to exercise my summer style skills, or rather, lack thereof.  Pre-blog, I just endured the few weeks of the year that were 78+ degrees by rotating through my many pajama dresses.  It was a formula that worked, but it's time to add another one for some variety, you know?  And I think this is it: colored shorts, patterned top, and/or a contrasting color in the accessories or the top itself.

There's only so many things I can figure out to do with shorts and a top, so instead, I'm letting the colors do the work of making things interesting.  Some previous outfits with this formula (click the pic to go to the full post):

But yeah, of course pajama dresses aren't going anywhere because like I mentioned in a past post, I only have two pair of colored shorts!  What is your current go-to summer "formula"?

Pleasant Surprise

Blazer: H&M (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Top: Target  |  Jeans: Lucky via Nordstrom Rack (similar)  |  Pumps: Urban Outfitters (shop)  |  Necklace: World Market

When I first got these Orange-Red Urban Outfitters pumps, I wondered if I had made a mistake in asking for them for my birthday.  I thought they would be the Red-Orange ones, which have more red in them, because I didn't know there was a difference between the two.  When I received them and saw how orange they were I was worried that I wouldn't know how to wear a pair of orange suede pumps.  (Can you blame me?)  Now, whenever I wear them I am sooo glad I have the orange pair instead of the red.  Somehow I've managed to find a lot of ways to wear these puppies without having to try too hard, when initially I didn't think I could wear them at all!  Whether my style has evolved to grow into them or whether they were always meant to be, I've been pleasantly surprised by these shoes that I once feared were a mistake.  Don't you love when that happens?

Has that ever happened to you?  Is there an item in your closet that you've been pleasantly surprised by?

Green and Yellow

Top: Old Navy (shop)  |  Shorts: thrifted Old Navy (similar)  |  Wedges: Target (shop)  |  Necklace: H&M

Green and yellow together?  Who am I?  What has this blog done to me?  Yet another outfit I wouldn't have worn prior to this style blog.  I always appreciate those kinds of outfits, even if I think they look like crap and wonder how I ever liked them four months later.  Hit or miss, they're still signs of growth and pushing yourself beyond your norm.

The self-imposed rule in my head that would have prevented me from wearing these colors together was that you weren't supposed to wear colors that were next to each other on the color spectrum lest you look like part of the rainbow.  But I guess I've overcome that nonsense, or maybe I'm just more okay with rainbows.  Either way, this outfit was worn and I loved it!

Maxi Dress to the Rescue

Dress: Old Navy (shop)  |  Necklace: Nordstrom's  |  Sandals: Target (shop)  |  Clutch: (shop, more colors)

So far this maxi dress has proved to be a fantastic investment, and it is becoming my best friend.  In just the short couple of weeks I've had it, I've worn it 4 times.  When I had a long day ahead of me and needed to be comfortable but presentable, this dress was perfect.  When I had that dilemma of wanting to be dressed up but worried about being overdressed, maxi dress came to the rescue.  When I'm going to have the same dilemma this coming weekend, this dress will provide relief once again.  When I desperately needed a nap yesterday but had to go to a party, I found solace in my trusty maxi dress.  And yesterday, I thought of how to style it for winter so that in November I could wear it and give my Thanksgiving food baby the room it needs to fully mature.  And any friend that encourages me to indulge in gluttonous behavior is a keeper in my book.

What piece or outfit would you say is the current best friend for you?

The winner of the Shabby Apple giveaway is...

Congrats, Alissa!  Look out for an email from me.

    Hmm...

Striped blazer: Shade Clothing (shop, option #2, option #3)  |  Shorts: Target (shop)  |  Cap toe flats: Old Navy (similar)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

I can't even tell you how long I've been staring at this post trying to figure out what to say, but I have nothing.  Maybe it's a food coma from the 7 slices of pizza that I just unapologetically ate.  Whatever the reason, all I've got for you is this outfit with the striped blazer that I decided to keep.  Paired with coral shorts to keep it feeling a little summery.  Whee!

Fashion Finds - Summer Yellows and Greens. And a MUSTARD CARDI!

shop: one  //  two  //  three  //  four  //  five

This week's Fashion Find is really just a random assortment of things I've bought recently or have been eyeing for summer.  They just happened to all be yellow and green!  And items 2-5 are from Old Navy because apparently I can't stay away from there.

Though a random Fashion Find, I mostly wanted to get one out this week because of the PRIZED POSSESSION, item number one...*drumroll*...

#1 - The super duper coveted mustard cardigan!  For nearly a YEAR now, so many of you have asked me where to find reasonably priced mustard cardigans to no avail.  Get this QUICK.  I saw this yesterday and created this whole post just so I could show you guys this cardigan.  Not even joking.  :)  Hurry!  Reasonably priced at $35 and goes with everything!  Sift through this label to see how I've worn mine.  (shop now

#2 - Yellow Tank.  I have a similar tank but the fit is off, so I ordered this one to try it out.  So bright and summery!

#3 - Teal Maxi Dress.  LOVE!  Got this.  Loved it.  Wore it.  Outfit post coming soon.

#4 - Green Flutter Sleeve Top. Totally love.  I wore it in the pics for my new blog buttons (in right column of blog).  I was always a fan of green in decor, but over the last few months I've become a huge fan of it in my wardrobe.

#5 - Green Stripe Tank.  Ordered this to try.  I like how it can be worn casual-cool with jeans, and I'm hoping it'll pair with a navy blazer.  I also think it'll go well tucked into my white and navy skirts for summer chicness.

This post was brought to you by the elusive mustard cardigan.

    Eight Hundred and Twelfth

Dress: Target (similar #1, similar #2, similar #3)  |  Cardigan: Old Navy (shop)  |  Belt: Target  |  Sandals: Target (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)

I felt like a walking bundle of cheery goodness in this outfit.  I wore this to have lunch with my friend at his company, and while everyone was dressed professionally in their business-casual and mostly neutral attire, I was prancing around in this.  And the way I got myself to feel respectable?  I imagined I was Buddy in Elf, spreading Christmas cheer for all to hear.  Because what is more respectable than Elf?

And I think this is approximately the 812th time I've worn this dress on the blog.  It's the dress that doesn't seem to die.  Whenever I keep thinking I'm going to let it go, it finds a way to become fresh again--I love that!  Plus, it fits with my innate need to wear pajama dresses, so really, if I got rid of this dress I'd probably find myself unconsciously buying another one that looked almost exactly like it to replace it.
