This little outfit involved quite a few layers. I'm not quite sure if it was too much to pile onto oneself, but I was warm, dang it. So very warm. A large part of that can be attributed to my fleece lined tights. Those babies are gold, my friends! And no, they are not ridiculously thick, but they are dang warm. It's like having a Snuggie wrapped around your legs, except that you can wear them in public without being stared at with disdain. (What do people have against Snuggies, anyway? My only beef is that I actually don't find them very warm.) Anyhoo, if you have a secret love for Snuggies but have been too embarrassed by them, I would suggest at least getting yourself some fleece lined tights. They might just change your life. ;)

I would totally wear an outfit like this to work -- love it! xo

Hello! I just discovered your blog and I love it. Your outfits are very cute and I love that they are very wearable. I love fashion but being a stay at home mommy it is hard for me to wear some of the things I would like to wear. It's hard to work stilettos and such into every day mommy wear. I was wondering if you might be able to help me with a style conundrum....my mom just gave me a really adorable animal print peplum top from Forever 21 that I love but am having trouble styling. Any advice??
ReplyDeleteTIA! I will be following you diligently from now on.

What a perfect winter outfit! I love all the layers - perfect for an office that has unpredictable heating system. Gonna check out these fleece lined tights - they sound so comfy! I think snuggie is the best invention ever - my hubby thinks otherwise.

Darling scarf. Pulls in the whole outfit.
ReplyDeletehaha! I do have a secret love of snuggies but am so embarrassed to wear them. My husband on the other hand...no shame. He'll wear it right out in the open. I think I'll settle for warm leggings like your's :) I love that dress on you.
ReplyDeleteOh I totally need a pair of these tights! It gets dang cold here and I don't like to wear long pants every day of the winter! Thanks for the tip :)

Kimmie (from Blue Paper Lanterns) keeps saying Nordstrom Rack has them sometimes for like $7. Check there if you're near one!
ReplyDeleteHi Trina! Thanks for taking the time to write! I think you could wear it with dark wash or black skinny jeans and black flats, or colorful flats like red, purple, blue, green if you're feeling daring. Add a black or tan cardigan. If skinny jeans aren't your thing, try it with dark wash straight leg jeans, but just make sure the leg line isn't too wide since the peplum adds volume already--you want to balance that out a little. You could also wear it with black slacks, heels, and a black blazer or cardigan with some shiny jewelry for a date night or a party, or more toned down jewelry for any important meetings.
ReplyDeleteI have a question. I've noticed lots of women and girls wearing, like you are in this outfit, socks that are taller than their boots. When did this become a thing? It seems very weird to me, not necessarily unattractive (I feel like that usually depends on the socks), but just very weird. Somebody explain this to me!
ReplyDeleteHaha...I'm not quite sure what to explain--it's just kind of a "thing", the same way that anything else is a "thing" like wearing colored bottoms or colored tights or whatever. It's not new, though. I don't know how long it's been around, but I started seeing it at least 4-5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteYes it has definitely been a trend for a while. I, for one, love it - I think it looks super cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the whole outfit, I think you look really cute and you've done a great job with the boot snuggies x
ReplyDeleteAudrey, it looks like your boot socks are pretty simple which makes sense with this outfit. I have seen lots of women with cool chunky boot socks but haven't seen any in my local Target or Old Navy (my main shopping destinations!). I don't know if you have any either given where you live, but do you know of any place to get some thicker, maybe cabled/patterned boot socks?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more! I love my fleece lined tights, so cozy.

Fleece lined tights are the best thing in the entire world. Except for the fact that mine tend to get pilly really easily. :(
ReplyDeleteAnd snuggies are NOT warm at all.
i have got to grab some fleece lined tights! love that scarf too! :)

Thanks! I will try it out and let you know what works.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! Cute scarf!
ReplyDeletePerfectlayering here, this is super cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of a similar outfit for Christmas. Either a denim or sweater dress (maybe a scarf or cardigan). Do you have any suggestions with your past outfits or a new one? I just bought a sleeveless Old Navy denim dress and Target has some cute sweater dresses.
ReplyDeleteI think your outfit is adorable! The trick to the Snuggie idea is to buy a Slanket instead. My Slanket is much better quality than my daughter's Snuggie and is very warm and soft. Would I be seen in public with it? No. Does it keep me warm? Absolutely!
ReplyDeleteloving your color combination today! black with brown is so fab. I'm usually layered up like this around this time of year. it's a must in the winter!
ReplyDeleteFleece lined tights?! I want! I love this outfit, you look warm and cozy but still so cute! The socks poking out under your boots layered over your tights make the outfit for me - is that weird?
ReplyDeleteJill, I was looking for a chunky cable knit too. I had a friend shopping with me and she insisted I get boot socks at DSW, they were not what I was looking for- but as it turns out they are great. They scrunch up at the top and fill in the area between my boots and legs (actually where I think the trend started so you don't look like you are swimming in your boots if the shaft is too big). I have also had great luck with finding larger sweaters marked down to a dollar or two at a thrift store, cutting off the sleeves and then I have my mom sew the bottom- making a leg warmer!
ReplyDeleteYep, I think I need these fleece lined tights. Love the interest and details you get in an outfit with all the layers and the socks peeking out...
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestions, Nichole!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this whole look!! I am so copying it. And I bought myself fleece lined tights a few weeks ago - best idea ever!

I think it provides great help in the sense of keeping you warm. Like you, I am not sure whether I like the look of it on the top of the boots. I guess that can be fixed by pushing them down ?!?!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable. I love your blog, by the way. It has become one of my all-time favorites. We have very similar styles--and budgets, it seems ;)--so you never fail to give me some great ideas!
ReplyDeleteLeggings are great for layering the lower body. We love them in Seattle. Ever tried to wear them with bright tights? It's a fun look and would look great on someone as young as you.
