Road Trippin' Outfit

Last weekend we took a 7 hour road trip up to Northern California to spend Thanksgiving with our families.  We are really grateful for the time we got to spend with our families, and especially because my family LOVES food and has a bunch of amazing cooks.  If you follow me on Instagram, you got a peek of our Thanksgiving feast.  *Droooool.*

I wore this outfit on the drive up.  I don't like wearing sweats when traveling because 1) if it's too comfortable I get sleepy and start feeling lethargic and 2) my sweats would drag on the ground in public bathrooms and that is a BIG no-no for me.  So, loungy but still wearing real clothes is my deal.  Sweatshirt thingy fit the bill!  I wore it with flats in the car so that I could slip my shoes on and off and boots for dinner with the family immediately when we arrived, just because I love wearing boots.  I'm curious, do you prefer to wear "real clothes" when traveling, or will we find you in sweats?

  1. Great outfit! Normally I wear 'real clothes' when traveling because normally we go straight to the hotel and then go do whatever (ie. meet fam.. eat lunch..) right away. And I'm the same way... I hate to drag the bottoms of my pants in public bathrooms!! -_-

    Your Thanksgiving feast looked yummy!

  4. We travel 10 hours for Christmas so I wear sweats on that drive. Its just too long. However, short drives I can handle regular clothes. I do like to wear shoes that I can slip on and off though.

  5. I wear real clothes, no matter what the travel and how long. I hate getting to the destination and looking gross. Also, I get really lethargic from wearing sweats and traveling. Great post! Love your outfit :)

  6. Like you, I try to dress comfortably, but chic at the same time- usually leggings and a tunic of some sort, and then boots to slip on :) Your outfit was perfect for traveling :)

I definitely try for real clothes, although I *almost* wish I had worn yoga pants on the last flight I took. It was a long one for me! I don't fly often so I'm not very used to sitting in one spot for almost 7 hours. Even my comfy jeans were getting pretty un-comfy in the waist at that point!

  8. I alternate, but if I do wear real clothes it's usually the softest most legging-like jeans I own! I usually opt for lululemon leggings because there's no chance they'll drag on the ground and they are the ultimate of comfy! Love your sweatshirt!

  9. I wear real clothes, but I have to wear something that's not tight around my waist because then I'll have to pee every hour. Nobody likes that girl.

  10. Just because you're traveling, doesn't mean you can't be stylish. Real clothes. Always. I posted my Thanksgiving road trip outfit just the other day!

  12. For really long travels where I know I will fall asleep, I wear yoga pants but I understand your "dragging pants" concern. If I know I won't be going to sleep, I tend to wear real clothes but something comfortable.

  13. Adorable! I prefer to wear "real clothes" for traveling (or leaving the house at all). However, I still always fall asleep in the car.:)

  14. I will always wear real clothes when traveling. I find that a comfy sweater, scarf, black/dark wash skinny jeans and flats are just about as comfortable as sweats, and I feel a lot better about being in public when I'm dressed appropriately. Plus you never know who you'll see! The world is a small small place - I once was with my father in Hong Kong when he ran into someone he was in the navy with (in Germany) 20 years ago. I take that as a lesson to always look at least semi pulled together :)

  16. Whenever possible, I like to wear a soft cotton sundress on road trips. They're as comfortable as sweats, but I still look presentable :)

  17. Sweats all the way but then as soon as I get home from.work I run and put my pjs on ha ha. Oh and I need to say thank you for your blog. My Nan gave me a cardigan that I only used to wear one way but on Friday I styled it to warm up a summer work shirt :-) it is really cold and wet over here in the UK. So you have saved a cardy from the charity shop and turned it into a new winter staple. Thank you and hope you had a happy Thanksgiving xx

  18. Real clothes! I find that if I wear sweats or pj's I feel so gross when I get where I'm going (even if I took a shower that morning!). My roadtrip outfit this weekend was similar to yours. I have a white "sweatshirt thing" that has a loose neckline so it tends to droop off one shoulder. I paired it with fuzzy moccasins (way too cold here for flats!), boyfriend-cut jeans, and a sparkly pink scarf to dress it up a bit.

  19. Real clothes. I feel like I need enough help looking put together that I really can't afford to out in public in sweatpants. Since I discovered maternity pants last year, they've become my roadtrip pants (ha ha!). They look like a really nice pair of dark denim pants, but they're super comfortable and have the spandex-like waist band. It's truly a win-win for me :)

  21. Audrey! I feel like such an awful blog friend. I haven't been active in the blogging world in a while, but you are looking fabulous as ever! I don't travel in sweatpants either.. I tend to get really hot hahah and you never know who you will meet traveling ;) ... well I guess if you're in your car, not many haha.

Anyway, can't wait to catch up with you via blog. Your blog has grown so much! That is fantastic!!

  22. I have the same sweatshirt thingy from Target, just the striped one and it is my roadtrip wear for tomorrow! Haha. Boyfriend jeans are my go-to roadtrip pants. I don't actually own sweatpants.

  23. I also have a real clothes philosophy, and I usually do something layered so it's easy to adjust my temperature (what exactly depends on the weather and season). I try to avoid anything that might get itchy or constrictive.

  24. Great outfit! What I travel in actually depends on what time we're arriving and what we're going to do when I get there. When we do long drives it's usually to visit my in-laws, and it's about a 7.5 hour drive, so I go for casual but cute because we'll still be hanging out mid-afternoon and evening if we leave in the morning.
