Relaxed & Thanksgiving Traditions

Even though this look is really simple, it feels a little foreign and new to me, and I really liked it!  One of the reasons I wanted one of these sweatshirt thingies* is because it's a chic way to wear a sweatshirt.  Talk about comfy!  I loved pairing it with a maxi dress--my other key ingredient for comfort--for a relaxed look that wasn't schlumpy.  I ran errands all day in it and even considered wearing it again for Thanksgiving since the looseness would be prime for endless eating.  (Though, I decided to wear something else.)  In our family, Thanksgiving is not about dressing up and looking nice.  It's about eating as much food as possible and lounging around in food comas while we laugh at our drunk uncles (aka "drunkles").  What do you look forward to most about Thanksgiving family time?  (Or other traditions, if you don't gather with family.)

*I keep calling it a "sweatshirt thingy."  What is it really called?

  2. I love this look! I was actually thinking about trying a "sweatshirt thingy" over my maxi dress, but then it got hot again! Ugh! But good to know that it looks adorable on you so I can save the idea for later! And I love the term "drunkles" haha!

  4. OMG! I have a new favorite word. And it is drunkle. (There are usually a couple at family gatherings on my mom's side, haha.)

Really love this outfit, too. I feel like it shouldn't work--baggy dress AND shirt?!--but it absolutely does. You look great :)

  9. I have been stalking your blog for a few weeks now and I am hooked! I get a little OCD when I get into something so of course, I've read every single post. For me, all the other fashion blogs are cute and all, but I'm just not willing to work that hard at it. Nor am I willing to wear 5-inch heels. Your style is much more doable -- casual, stylish but not too foofoo. (is that a real word?)

So I am determined to change my ways from one hit wonders to a remixable wardrobe. Now all I have to do is not break the bank! So do you have a budget? If you don't mind sharing, I would love to know how much you allow yourself. And what do you generally pay for stuff -- shirts, jeans, jackets, shoes, etc.

Also, I was hoping you could recommend a secondary color palette to go with black. I'm not brave enough to wear red but I can handle teal/turquoise, pink/magenta and those types of colors. Or if there's a website you know that might be helpful...I'm one of the people that has to work at this :( but I don't want to waste your time either.

Again, thank you so much for sharing the lessons you've learned along the way, and spelling it out. It has changed the way I look at my wardrobe and has motivated me to TRY to elevate my usual jeans and shirts.

  14. Thanksgiving and Christmas are basically the only two times a year, unless there is a wedding or a shower, that we get to see all of out extended family. It's great! We have some funny people in our family and I miss them!

  16. I like the layering - the "sweatshirt thingy" (: and the maxi dress - but the booties seem too chunky for the outfit.

  17. This looks so comfy and cute! My hubby and I started a new tradition this year -- wearing jammies to Thanksgiving! They have to be patterned bottoms, though. You know, the kind you receive as gifts every year from mom? This way she gets to see us wearing them, too. :) I would totally rock the "sweatshirt thingy" with the bottoms.
