I bought this lace top from Forever 21 last year as an experiment, unsure if I could make use of it. Little did I know it'd become one of my most worn pieces! It's as versatile as a plain tee but brings a little special something to an outfit. I've used and abused this poor thing, plus since it was an experiment I just went with what was cheap, and now it's time for a new one. I attempted to replace it with this awesome crochet top, but that one is too big and hard to style and is sadly one of the shopping mistakes I've made. I ordered this one from Old Navy, and while I don't have high hopes for it, we'll see how it goes. Lace tops, yea or nay for you?

I love how you styled the cowl! It looks great on you. And I think I need a lace top, too--it adds such nice texture to your outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love this look! The little belt around the lace makes it complete looking. I may have to make my own version of it! Thanks for the inspiration :)

I like the mix of textures in this look...genius! Ha! I like being able to wear an item multiple ways. It's also good to think of 2 or more ways to wear an item before purchasing it. :)

I love a great lace top! I actually got one last spring from J Crew Factory & love it (it's a blush color) & now need a white one so I can wear it with more. Love the blush & maroon together in this outfit. Unexpected color combination that I love!

Yea for lace tops! I bought one a while ago from T.J. Maxx and at first I was hesitant to wear it because lace has always equaled extra fancy to me for some reason. But you're right, it's just as versatile as a plain t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I love the texture & subtle interest the lace brings to the outfit. I also love the pop of maroon (burgundy, oxblood... whatever they're calling that color these days!) in the infinity scarf. Adorable outfit as always!

I say Yea. I never would have thought to add lace, but I love how the combination looks. Thanks for all the inspiration, I am learning to experiment more because of you and your blog and slowing getting out of my jeans and tee uniform.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute, Audrey! Lace tops are a definite yay for me!

I've got a lace top I haven't worn yet, so I am excited to see this outfit. I can use it as inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHere's the top. I'm struggling to figure out how to where it. Any ideas? It's the ivory

Love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a yea for me, I love lace tops! Latest and favorite one is this one from Express: http://www.express.com/brushed-lace-tee-47579-1056/index.pro
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with lace! iI really like both this top and the one you consider a shopping mistake. It's too bad about the other top, because I think it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really pretty top. I bet it would look great with a pair of dark skinny jeans, brown or congac boots, and maybe a burgundy blazer/jacket.
ReplyDeleteLove the lace trend! I recently got a lace top from Marshalls (not sure the actual brand of the shirt) for family pictures. It was great because it was comfy and could be styled several ways but also added something special with the lace detail.
ReplyDeleteI love a lace top too - adds a nice texture to a simple casual outfit like this one, plus I tend to just have a lot of t-shirt material items that I wear under things, so a lace one is always handy for dressing up a little more.
ReplyDeleteYay for me! I have two (white and beige) - I wear the white one to death!
ReplyDeleteBought a lace tee from Target a year or two ago -- it's the boyfriend's favorite! I've worn it to death, and supplemented with a drapey lace tank from H&M. Definitely a staple, and super easy to wear!
ReplyDeleteLove that lace top - I've been searching high & low for the right one. Always feel a little discouraged given that I'm a little top heavy, so it often seems like the lace gets a little wonky because of that... Any tips??
ReplyDeleteYou're totally right about lace adding a little extra something to an otherwise simple item. I have a lace dress and am actually wearing lace pants today (yes, seriously) but I don't have a lace top!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit on you! And I really like the burgundy cowl. Great inspiration for future outfits. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYay for lace! And P.S. if the Old Navy doesn't work out for you, I saw a long-sleeve lace T at Ann Taylor. It comes in black, white, and pink. Here's the link: http://bit.ly/10ou7Ak

I love your lace top SO MUCH! please let me know if you find anything good! I've seen a lot of cute lace tops, but they either are only lace in front and knit in back (WHYYYY) or they are just a thin layer of lace and require an undershirt, which is annoying. :)
ReplyDeleteMy current one requires an undershirt! But since I wear them with almost all of my tops, i don't mind. I'll let you know how the Old Navy one works out. I can't see the back in the pics, so I don't even know if it's a knit back or lace. Plus, by the way it fits on the model I'm not putting my eggs in that basket.
ReplyDeleteyay!! I love how it can be dressed up or down. Like Kimmie said below, all of my lace tops need an undershirt. I think there's probably no way around that!
ReplyDeleteI really like the lace top, and that snood!

I love this post since I have a cream-colored lace top but have only worn it over a t-shirt. I will have to spice it up with a cardi/belt and scarf! Also, I've been looking for some boots JUST like those... you may have posted it elsewhere on your blog, but any tips on where to find a pair like that?
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of lace tops...so feminine and adds an interesting texture to an outfit.

Yes for lace tops! Like you said it's simple enough to elevate an outfit to the next level without trying to hard. :)

I love this outfit! The lace top is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dawn below! Or any kind of neutral blazer. You could also try a pencil skirt (denim for casual chic or black/grey for more sophisticated) with an earth tone cardigan, like mustard, rust orange, maroon, or tan. Then add a long, shiny, sort of thin necklace to make a long lean line in your center column.
ReplyDeleteLace top = yes, please! Lace top from forever 21 = no thank you! I got myself a lace top last winter from forever 21, and it did not last very long! By the way, I really enjoyed SD and once again thanks for your advices, they were really helpful! I promise that I have done my best to help the US economy!
ReplyDeleteLace tops are fantastic! (A huge staple in my wardrobe.) I actually loved your crochet top from that post, I think it would look killer with skinnies and it looked really adorable on you. I really like your styling of this lace top as well, the rich red scarf really pulls the whole look together and gives the boots and the cardigan a luxurious look.
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! Especially the burgundy scarf.
ReplyDeleteLooks great.

LOVE the new lace style! I agree it adds just the right amount of fancy needed!!
ReplyDeleteI found a white lace top at express half off for black Friday. not sure its the same but its cute.
ReplyDeleteLace tops are a nay for me until I am more diligent in my "lay flat to dry" practice. I have tried lace skirts and tops but the lace always ends up far shorter than the lining because I forget to take them out of the load before the dryer!
