While I accompanied B to Gap the other day, I couldn't help pick up these red flats. I have a pair of red flats that I've wanted to replace for a brighter hue. I haven't actually worn these yet because I can't decide if I'm going to keep them. While the material is really comfortable, they *might* be a tad too small, just for my right foot. The left fits fine! I want to try them a half size larger, but that size isn't available in store or online. :( They're leather--do you think they'll stretch a little? What should I do?

Have you tried putting snap locks bags of water in the toes and then popping the shoes in the freezer overnight?
ReplyDeleteI've had good luck with the wooden shoe stretcher I bought at Target. (Amazon has them too.) Just be sure to get the one with the metal twister thing...the plastic one breaks right away.
ReplyDeleteI don't do anything other than put the stretcher in the shoe. Didn't use the special liquid or water or anything. Just the stretcher.
I only leave it overnight and then check it. Having learned from experience that leaving it for a week without checking it can result in an overstretched shoe. :-)
I hate it when I have this issue! Whenever I buy shoes like this they don't stretch as much as I would like for them so. Then again, whenever I buy shoes that don't seem to need to be stretched they do and I get frustrated!

That's so funny because my left foot is always the bigger one causing problems with my shoes. :) I bought some moccasins from Target that were slightly too small on my left foot but after a week of wearing them, it did stretch out. I also googled this http://www.wikihow.com/Stretch-New-Shoes and there are some interesting solutions :) I think the leather in your shoes will stretch...plus they're so cute! I hope you keep them.
ReplyDeleteput on a wool sock (right foot) then put the shoe on, and take your hair dryer and heat up the shoe, then leave the shoe on, with the wool sock on your foot in the shoe, and walk around for 20/30 minutes until the shoe is completely dry, and it should stay stretched!
ReplyDeleteLeather will stretch over time.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Who knew there were so many tricks for stretching shoes? Lol!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think you will be glad to have those shoes, if your techniques fail for stretching them, then return them. I always wear new shoes around in my house for awhile before going outside, so I can return them if they aren't comfy.
I found a darling pair of ballet flats in the perfect deep orange at Old Navy the other day, will be watching how you wear these and I'll substitute my orange ones!
I have learned the expensive lesson that if the shoe doesn't feel great right NOW, return it! There will be other shoes and you don't want to risk hurting your feet!
ReplyDeleteI think they would stretch, but if it hurts you foot you're gonna get a blister or something before they get to that point and I don't know if it's worth it, you know?
ReplyDeleteI saw this on pintrest and tried it with another pair of shoes, it worked!
ReplyDeleteHmm, they probably will stretch a little but I have had that problem before. I have big feet though ;) so sometimes they don't stretch enough! hopefully they will, they are super cute!

As a gap assocaite I can say I honestly think they will stretch. I have worn many Gap shoes, and as long as they are not the ballet flats that have the elastic around it will probably stretch (from my experience) BUT also from my experience no one has ever returned them because they have stretched to me... so who knows. (and yes people are crazy enough to return dirty worn shoes, and worse underwear!) he he oh and I love this outfit! I need to get a "leather" jacket like that!

I hate when I find a pair of shoes I've been wanting but they aren't in my size. It just happened to me yesterday with black pumps. I almost went a half size down but they just weren't comfortable enough. You should wear those around the house for a couple days to see if they stretch. I hope they do so you can keep them :)

I'd return them-I do things like that and then kick myself later cause they don't stretch. I have a cute pair of purple moccasins and they are still too tight on my right foot. :(
ReplyDeleteIf they are real leather then YES they will STRETCH. You can google some stretching techniques for shoes and there are several good options that will work if you are in a hurry. Otherwise, just wear them several days in a row and they should be stretched out before the end of the week.
ReplyDeleteI would guess they would stretch. I just bought a pair of brand new (but second hand) Frye leather ballet flats. I was so bummed that the first two days I wore them they were very tight over the top of my big toe on my right foot, and over my baby toe on my left. But after a week of wearing them they've stretched out to the point that they're almost a bit loose. If they don't stretch on their own, take them to a cobbler; they can work wonders! Stay with that size; nothing worse that floppy flats.
ReplyDeletekeep them! if they are leather and fit a little snugly now, they will fit perfectly once you break them in. if you get a bigger size, they might stretch out to be too big and you would then never want to wear them. i had that happen with a pair of sperry topsiders and i've had to add padding/cushion to make them fit better.
ReplyDeleteLove camel and red together. I really love those flats, yes they will probably stretch.

Sweet jacket!

my mom has worked in shoe stores for years and lucky for me I have learned a few tricks of the trade. IF the uppers (everything but the sole) is 100% leather you can stretch them. My mom has shoe stretchers but you don't have to have them unless you want to stretch them out fast. Just wear them around the house for a while and they should stretch out. If your toe is touching the end of the shoe, then they are too small and need to go back.
ReplyDeleteAs someone with size 11 (!) feet, I've played the "will they stretch? please?" game a million times. But they never stretch--or at least not enough! Sadness, but I say return them. :(
ReplyDeletei like my shoes to be a little snug, but if they're too tight i won't wear them. leather will stretch so if it's just a tad uncomfy, keep them! if not, wait til you find a pair that fits great so you'll wear them all the time
ReplyDeleteHave you heard the ice trick? I haven't tried it but you stick a ziplock bag of water in the shoe and freeze it, and when the water expands into ice, it will stretch out the shoe. I've just been grossed out with the thought of a shoe in the freezer next to my ice cream...
ReplyDeleteCheck this out. Found it on pinterest. It might help!

If they are leather then keep them since you can get them professionally stretched. I know Nordstrom does it but I am pretty sure they are only for shoes that you bought for them. These are simple but adorable - I can see you getting good mileage out of them.

Leather will stretch. Google will help! Nice outfit.
ReplyDeleteOf course I just bought two pairs of red flats on Target.com (they arrived yesterday). This shade of red is the perfect shade for the outfit I want. I guess I'll *have* to buy more! Now I wish this Gap pair came in gray too.
ReplyDeleteI vote to keep them! They are such a cute color. I have a pair of leather flats similar to that and they have definitely stretched out with wear. You could also try wearing them with a wool sock to stretch them out (just noticed the person below me recommended that as well). They are too adorable to give up on! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Audrey, I love your blog. I liked what you did in the pics for this post, where you showed jacket on and off. Maybe you could do that for future looks as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the leather jacket paired with stripes and chain necklace and the pop of red makes it extra special. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI have the same shoes and they do stretch out with wear! I love mine and wear them with everything
