Colored Denim Gateways

Top: Forever 21 (shop, similar)  |  Cardigan: H&M (similar)  |  Jeans: Target (shop: similarsimilarsimilar)  |  Shoes: c/o Kemi from AVON (shop)  |  Necklace: Forever 21 (shop)  |  Ring: c/o Stella & Dot (shop)

A while back, Target shocked me by refilling a stock of jeans that they had been sold out of for months, and finally one late night out last week it was cool enough for me to wear them!  These are Target's "curvy skinny" fit, which I love, because their normal colored skinnies don't fit me well.

If you're still intimidated by colored denim, cobalt is a great gateway into colored denim.  It's really close to normal blue jeans, but its vibrancy is enough to differentiate it.  This outfit would be pretty normal with regular blue jeans, but the trade for cobalt makes the whole thing more vibrant and exciting.  If you're feeling the fall colors, I think another great gateway color for colored denim is burgundy.  It's somewhat of a pseudo-neutral, warm and not too in-your-face, but sophisticated and helpful in changing up your outfit options.  Here are some burgundy jean options: one, two, three, four.

  1. The regular colored skinnies at Target don't fit me either. I have to try the curvy fit.

  3. I want to try these 'curvy skinny' fit jeans, because their regular skinnies run ridiculously small! I had to size up almost 5 sizes and still felt like I was stuffed inside of them. Love the color of these, and the pattern on your top is really cute! Adorable as always :)

Great outfit. How is the sizing on the Target ones?

  12. On the "curvy skinnies," true to size. Maybe even slightly big as they stretch a tiny bit after about 10 minutes. I'm always between sizes on these and have gotten the smaller pair and I haven't been disappointed yet.

  20. I know the point of this post is colored denim (of which I have a lot) but I'm totally in love with your top more than anything else!

  21. I have this pair too. Already had a lot of use, 1 week every day or almost everyday--maybe more use if it wasn't 90-100 degrees today(weather since August). I agree, the curvy skinny jeans fit way better than the regular and the waistband is higher too(closer to belly button, not down on hips like some others).

  22. I haven't seen them on Target's website yet, but I found them at mine right between the juniors and misses, by all the other jeans. You'll know it's them from the even size numbers on the hangers(as opposed to the 1, 3, 5, etc. sizing of juniors)

  23. Yes! I love my jeans in this color, I feel like they go with pretty much everything. I'm definitely searching for a burgundy pair next! You look so cute, I love that tank!

  31. I so love colored denim/pants. I recently picked up oxblood cords. Can't wait for it to cool off enough for corduroy.

You look adorable! Love the graphic print with cobalt.
