A Strong Shoe

Top: Forever 21  |  Jeggings: New York & Co.  |  Necklace: c/o Sway Chic (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)  |  Shoes: c/o Kemi's Avon Store (visit Kemi's site; click "shop," search "Zipperback Mircowedge")

Can we talk about shoes today?  I once read in People StyleWatch an article analyzing how Charlize Theron's signature style was an outfit of basics topped off with a strong shoe.  That stuck with me, how a shoe can make all the difference.  But if you haven't noticed by my large tan shoe collection, I haven't quite adopted that mindset yet.

My dear friend Kemi is an Avon rep and offered to send me an item to feature here, so to experiment with the "strong shoe" idea, I chose these gladiator sandals.  (And yes, Avon sells clothes, not just makeup!)  I was hesitant, though, not knowing if I could pull them off or if they'd even fit.  I winced when I put them on, immediately followed by me shouting at to B, "HOLY CRAP!  These are freaking comfortable!"  And three more times after that until he figured out how to tune me out.  I also LOVE how much personality they add to a normal outfit!  They took my old top and jeans outfit up a few notches and made it feel fresh.  AND they're on sale for $19.99 for an "end of season sale," though I will easily transition them into fall.  I think I'm in love, and maybe this will give you guys a little break from all my tan shoes bahaha.  :)

What do you think?  Would you wear gladiator sandals?

  2. Those are so cute! It's hard to tell online though, are they denim? What color are they? And how do they fit? Do you think you can pair them with a camel skirt? (I've been looking up and down for a shoe that I can wear with a camel pencil skirt.) Thanks!!

They are super cute! I'm a shoe girl for sure :)

  5. They're black with a tint of grey in a suede-like material, which I think is why they're so comfy. It's just a black suede shoe with a cork wedge, so I definitely think it can be paired with a camel pencil skirt!

  6. I love Avon (and Mark's) clothing options- it's small but super cute :) I love this outfit- like you said, simple basics can be great with an awesome shoe!

  7. I would, and I do! And actually, not that I don't like these shoes, but I wouldn't even call them "strong." They're still pretty basic. But I guess when you're a tan shoe girl, this is really branching out :) I'm ready to see you go really wild!

  8. Haha! I know. I used to be crazy with my shoes before I started blogging. I like did a 180 since then and went all tan. Dunno why!

I just stumbled upon your blog and I absolutely love everything about it. I'm constantly trying to figure out ways to re-work my wardrobe and since I stay at home, can't afford to buy tons of new clothes! Thanks for some inspiration!

  11. Gladiator sandals have a special place in my heart. Sadly, I live in Oregon so 9 months of the year they are a bad choice, haha. They do change up your look in a big way!

  12. Adorable! I LOVE shoes! That's probably an understatement though. I have WAY too many pair, but I love them all. I just bought gladiators this summer too. I was very unsure of their comfort, but they are awesome.

  14. They are a nice-looking shoe for your outfit & you've made them sound so comfy. Personally, and this will make me the odd one out, but I'm not crazy for the gladiator style shoe. I hesitantly bought one pair but the straps had to be evenly spaced and of the same width across the top of my foot. Quirky & too weird, I know.

  15. I love Gladiator sandals! My hubs picks on me calling me Spartan when I wear them, but they look so much better than flip flops. Last night, I wore a real simple outfit to the first TriFABB meeting and rocked it with some shoes I got at Target. I got SO many compliments on them!

  16. That is interesting...sometimes I forget how much of a difference a shoe can make! But lately I have tried to purchase more vintage style shoes, just because I've realized that a pair of shoes can sway the balance of an outfit from vintage to modern. It's a great way to make your outfit say exactly what you want it to!

Love the gladiators on you, you can really wear them :)

  17. The shoes I get the most compliments on are a pair of gladiator-esque wedges. I love a good strappy sandal!

  18. Hi Audrey! I'm a new reader of your blog and I just wanted to tell you how much I love it! I just spent WAY too much time reading back through all your entries about remixing. I even sent your link to all my girlfriends, that's how much I love your tips! I just wanted to drop in and let you know!

  20. I'm partial to tan shoes too... somehow I find a darker shoe to be so in your face when it's on my own foot - but I love how they look on you! So great for snazzing up a jeans outfit.

  21. How funny, I have never owned a pair of tan shoes (partial to red and black shoes) but after catching up on your blog archives, have decided I really need to invest in a tan pair - so versatile!!

  22. I don't know if I've ever commented before but I just love your blog. You do such a great job of mixing affordable pieces and making them look great. I've been on a rediscovery of my fashion style since going from working in a law office for eight years to being a stay at home mom. It's been hard to figure out what to wear that's easy with kids but at the same time doesn't look grungy. Anyway, I thought of you today because I scored a mustard cardigan at Target today! Yay! I would have never thought I could wear that color until I saw how great you make it look!

  23. Is your bag the "nutmeg" color? It looks darker on the product's website but I like the light tan you have.

  24. Yes, nutmeg! It's more cognac/tan in real life than on the product website. On the site it looks kind of orange.
