Pleasant Surprise

Blazer: H&M (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Top: Target  |  Jeans: Lucky via Nordstrom Rack (similar)  |  Pumps: Urban Outfitters (shop)  |  Necklace: World Market

When I first got these Orange-Red Urban Outfitters pumps, I wondered if I had made a mistake in asking for them for my birthday.  I thought they would be the Red-Orange ones, which have more red in them, because I didn't know there was a difference between the two.  When I received them and saw how orange they were I was worried that I wouldn't know how to wear a pair of orange suede pumps.  (Can you blame me?)  Now, whenever I wear them I am sooo glad I have the orange pair instead of the red.  Somehow I've managed to find a lot of ways to wear these puppies without having to try too hard, when initially I didn't think I could wear them at all!  Whether my style has evolved to grow into them or whether they were always meant to be, I've been pleasantly surprised by these shoes that I once feared were a mistake.  Don't you love when that happens?

Has that ever happened to you?  Is there an item in your closet that you've been pleasantly surprised by?

  1. I bought a pair of shoes at a garage sale that I didn't love but they were comfortable and I needed them. 5 years later I am still wearing them!

  2. Personally love them...they are so cute and add the perfect pop of fun to your outfit.  I can see them working with you closet a million ways!  I've definitely had the same experience though...I recently got an "ugly" sweater that turned out to be really cute when styled the right way.

  4. I have those shoes and was surprised at how orange they were when they arrived! They definitely photograph more reddish. Alas, they are worn ALL the time and I've already had to buy a replacement pair from wearing through them :) Love this look - I'll have to recreate this!

  5. I have those pumps but haven't gotten much wear out of them put the grey pumps I'm wearing in this post http://beautystyleandgrowth.blogspot.com/2012/07/lime-and-navy.html has gotten a lot of wear. I initially bought them to wear with grey pants but they go with so much more. Love your look. Don't be surprised when you see me wearing the exact same look soon.

It's so funny because I have always loved those shoes (1st saw them on Kendi @ KendiEveryday and on her they look more red/orange than orange. Do they just photograph orange? Either way, I love them :)

  8. I think they're adorable and are probably just as versatile or even more so than red pumps!

  9. My surprise item is a coral bead bracelet.  It came as part of a set of bracelets, most of which were neutral colors.  I rarely wear the neutral ones, but the coral bracelet gets worn several times per week.  It goes with everything!

  10. Hers ARE more red/orange, and mine are orange/red.  I didn't know there were two different ones, so I was hoping to get the red/orange ones thinking they were the same, but it turns out the orange/red is different...and more orange.  That's why I was sad about them, but a year later, I'm glad!

  11. Oooh sounds pretty.  I have a coral bracelet that I love the color of, but it's kind of clunky so I hardly wear it.

  13. I purchased a pair of yellow slingbacks online, and initially I regretted it because they're bright and I felt like a clown. I was just being too self conscious -- now I wear them a lot!  They're really comfortable, and perfect for adding a little color to the neutrals I tend to wear.

  14. I still feel like I need to own a pair of those heels in some color. Because I wear the heck out of the dark teal vintage ones I have, anyway. You DO seem to wear those puppies a lot, though. It was meant to be. (: I really never order things online, so I'm usually surprised with a $2 impulse buy while thrifting ends up working out splendidly.

  15. Yeah!  I totally felt like a clown when I first started wearing these.  I mean...orange suede?!?!--hello!  I would love some yellow heels, and I totally agree about adding a lovely pop of color.

  18. Another cute outfit.  I have been wanting some orangish heels but been debating if this is just a trend.  Glad you are getting great mileage out of these!

  19. I've never really known it to be a trend.  I've had these for over a year, and the person I saw them on has been wearing them about 3 years.  I think we can always use a pop of color on our feet!

  23. Cute Shoes! I thought the same thing about this "Red Poppy" dress I got from New York and Company, it's definitely more of a burnt orange than red. But I've been able to dress it up with leopard print and it pops!

  24. Ooh, orange and red with leopard!! I love it!

  27. Audrey, I'm so glad you posted on these shoes again. I just saw that they have my size at UO again (FINALLY!) and went to buy them but thought to myself.. "I wonder if Audrey still wears these and what she thinks of the color??" Way to read my mind ;) I love em, and I'm buying them!
