Being that the weather in San Diego seldom deviates +/-8 degrees from 70 degrees, I'm glad when I get to exercise my summer style skills, or rather, lack thereof. Pre-blog, I just endured the few weeks of the year that were 78+ degrees by rotating through my many pajama dresses. It was a formula that worked, but it's time to add another one for some variety, you know? And I think this is it: colored shorts, patterned top, and/or a contrasting color in the accessories or the top itself.
There's only so many things I can figure out to do with shorts and a top, so instead, I'm letting the colors do the work of making things interesting. Some previous outfits with this formula (click the pic to go to the full post):

Cute summery look!
ReplyDeleteI love wearing dresses and skirts during summer, they are my go to pieces during the hot summer months.
this is pretty much my summer go-to as well! Either that or throw on a sun dress or maxi dress, add some fun accessories and call it a day! : )

That is pretty much my summer uniform which is probably why I always end up matching my friends because they also love this combination.

I have been rotating heavily through skirts (pencil skirts, midis, full knee length) and ribbed tank tops. If it is cool enough (LOL) I wear a light cardigan over the top. Add some casual sandals and I'm set!
ReplyDeleteI really love that white top, such fun texture! I've been wearing a lot of shorts....way too hot to wear much else!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a "formula" sometimes, makes grabbing at random a little easier and more likely to look awesome. And you, the queen of mix and match, have a really workable wardrobe to play this game in. Loving it!
ReplyDeleteLove that Target top on you Audrey! I tried in on, but it's just wasn't very flattering on me, great summer outfit.

As you can guess, my summer formula is pretty identical to yours. But man, I would love that kind of weather. So jealous!
ReplyDeletethis is so cute I had to show my daughter.... it's her style too!

I'm with Jennifer Collins - tank tops and skirts. I often layer 2 tank tops in contrasting colors for interest (and also because they're thin). Today I'm wearing a hot pink tank over an olive green tank. Both tops are tucked into an olive green paper bag waist skirt. Add some comfy sandals, maybe a bracelet, and I'm good to go!
ReplyDeleteI love the white top. I usually preferred a more defined waist on myself but because this is sheer it might work. I'll have to try that at my local Super Target.
This outfit screams my name! You make this simple summer outfit sooo cute! I love that you added the statement necklace to add umph! Love it!

My go to summer formula is sleeveless tops and skirts. I find myself wearing that combo at least 4xs a week!
ReplyDeleteLove this look! The tank is so feminine and sweet. I love how the necklace elevates the outfit!
Color and texture are always helpful. I typically have trouble dressing myself in summer, but it has been really un-summery around here, so I've been dressing pretty much how I always do.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a formula! Probably because I'm not the kind of person who can visualize and put together fabulous outfits ; ) I like this plan of color and texture, and your outfit looks great! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI hate the summer! It's always 90-115 degrees here and you are right, their is only so much you can do with shorts and a top. I love how you play with color and pattern to make the outfits more interesting!

You are just so adorable. Shorts and a top is pretty much my summer go-to as well. It's so easy and the possibilities are endless. Love those pink shorts!

You are so cute!! The brigth shorts and tank/shirt combo are perfect for summer. I'd wear it every day if I could, but since I have to dress up a little bit for work, my summer formula usually includes a sundress and sandals... or a maxi and sandals. =)
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I had some yellow shorts that I purchased earlier this summer in my return pile. You've given me some great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI like this summer formula! I may do something similar with colored bottoms in general. I only have two pairs of colored shorts as well lol
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog, and you are too cute and I love your looks. Check out my blog too if you get a minute. http://www.fitfabulousmom.com

So cute!! I really need to find some shorts, preferable colored ones.
ReplyDeleteGood idea using the colors to make it interesting... I have trouble with shorts sometimes because I feel like they're too casual to feel very me - but all your outfits look super put together and more interesting than I feel in shorts. Excellent tip, especially when it's too hot to wear accessories or to layer!
ReplyDeleteDang, time to move to San Diego! Our temperature range is 140 degrees.
ReplyDeleteI saw that exact same top at Target the other day and was debating about whether to get it. I love this outfit! I might have to go back to see if I can still snag it.

I love colored shorts for summer, I think they are so fun! You look adorable - it's a super easy outfit but still looks pulled-together and cute.
ReplyDeleteI love colored and patterned shorts! I am really having necklace envy....it's beautiful!

Oh good idea. I'm currently on a pretty easy formula myself: DRESSES. Easy. That's why I love summer!
