The long awaited polka dot pencil skirt

Top: Shade Clothing (similar #1similar #2)  |  Skirt: Forever 21 (similar #1, similar #2)  |  Wedges: Kohl's (shop)  |  Tote: ebags.com (shop)  |  Necklace: Old Navy

Would you think me crazy if I told you I've had "polka dot pencil skirt" on my list for nearly a YEAR?  Yes.  But I wanted it at an inexpensive price, because, as you should know by now, I'm kind of cheap.  When I discovered this at Forever 21 for under $20, I knew that dreams do come true.*  That, and when I discovered cookie butter from Trader Joe's.**  Holla.

A polka dot pencil skirt is sneaky because it's the classic pencil skirt shape but has some quirk in it thanks to the polka dots.  I left my shirt partially untucked to teeter between casual but kind of dressed up.  What is it, casual or dressed up?  The world may never know.  See, sneaky I tell ya.

*Kidding about this one.  I don't care that much about this skirt.
**Totally not kidding about this one.  I do care that much about desserts.

  1. Pencil skirts are the redeemer to those days where you just don't feel inspired, lazy or just don't want to put any effort into what you are wearing. They are so easily dressed up AND down!

  4. SO CUTE. I absolutely love pieces like this that allow the simplest outfit ever (skirt + tee) to look like such a complete, stylish, and pulled-together outfit. (And so will be adding polka dot skirt to my list, pronto!) Also: I consider the cookie butter every time I'm at TJs but don't dare buy because I'm afraid I'll sit and eat the entire jar... so instead I think I'll get it for my sweet-toothed dad, who I'm sure will let me taste it while I'm visiting, and then I can escape the temptation by leaving :)

  5. Just got a polka dot skirt at Forever 21 this past weekend too! It wasn't a pencil, but it's a pretty pleated one :). I like the casual but kind of dressed up look here. Cookie butter?! Sounds amazinggg.

  6. Love this skirt- so cute! BTW- I reordered a pair of those wedges from Kohl's after mine broke because I can't live without them!

  7. Is that a recent purchase?  Because, if so, I'm going to F21 RIGHT NOW to look for it!  I've also been craving one but refusing to shell out the J.Crew price tag for it.

  27. I've loved this style of skirt for so long. BR had one very similar last fall and I was going to buy it...until I remembered that I can't wear skirts to work so it would just sit lonely in my closet. Love how you keep it casual with the tee shirt and necklace. Perfectly casual :)

  28. Adorable skirt.  I have a similar skirt that I bought at BR.  You will have tons of fun with it.  I've paired mine with stripes, lace & floral.  I've only wear my skirt to work ...still trying to figure out how to make it less work looking.

  29. I've got my lovely zebra print skirt that I recently unearthed. It's time to play with it, I think. Your polka dots are adorably styled in a casualed up way.

  30. Cute outfit! I think it can be considered as a casual outfit and a dressed up outfit, amazing idea to get the best of both world.

  31. I love this outfit! It's so casual chic! Polka dots are one of my favorite prints. I love how this skirt looks cute and feminine with the polka dots yet dressy and casual all at the same time with the t and necklace.

  34. Love the polka dot skirt!! And for only $20?! Lovely. No, you're not crazy for having it on your list. It's easy for polka dots patterns to be "dizzy" if you know what I mean. If you're ever in Hawaii, I'd love to hook up for accessory 101. Hehe.

I might need you to do a "How-to-tuck" post.  My shirts never look good when I try to partial tuck them!  Help!
