Purple on Purple

Dress: Target (shop)  |  Cardigan: H&M (similar)  |  Belt: Lulu's  |  Flats: Old Navy (similar)

This dress was last seen here and here.

You know, I think in the past I only would have worn this dress with a grey or black cardigan.  Partially because those are the only two colors I owned, and partially because I thought it was "wrong" to pair such similar colors together in mass quantity.  But I learned through experimenting that sometimes it works, and the first time I dared do it was here and I loved it!  And I love it again in today's outfit.

Sometimes you just need to experiment without worrying whether something is "right" or "wrong" in your rule book.  Throw the rules out the window and at least try it.  The worst that can happen is that you stand in front of your mirror, make this face, and change out of your outfit.  Or, you can discover new outfits that you didn't know existed in your closet.  I'd say a few of those faces is worth a FREE new outfit that makes you feel awesome.

  13. Sometimes the most unexpected thing to do is to match! Everyone re-works and re-works their wardrobe these days, (which is awesome), but sometimes I do find myself forgetting the obvious choices. HA.  You look great in your purple on purple! =)

I feel you there! I love this outfit and the purples. I hate when I am working at Gap and people need to match product x with product y exactly! I am like no people you have this all wrong!! Especially with dressing babies, you can have so much fun with not matching same colors (blues and purples OR going with the color scheme). I think it looks a lot better this way!

  21. Lovely, Audrey!  I really like a monochromatic color look, and the patterning and details on the belt and shoes keeps it really interesting.

  22. I always struggle with monochromatic looks too, but this is just right. The print on the dress is lovely, and the belt and the flats break it up so you don't look like a walking eggplant :P

  23. Yesterday, I wore almost the exact same outfit, haha! Not the same dress, but I had a darker purple-print dress, and I was the same way. Always black or grey. But I have that exact cardigan. Threw it on with some nude flats and I pretty much loved it! Purple's my favorite, but I was afraid it would be overkill. Not! Seeing how awesome it looks on you confirms it for me! :p I would pick your belt over mine, though. That thing is super cute!

  29. Hi Audrey,
I've just discovered your blog tonight & I really like your fashion style. I've got a full wardrobe that I'm happy with, however pulling off "a look" can sometimes stump me. It's so helpful to read your Style Help section, and the diagrams you've drawn up are fantastic. I find them inspirational. I will be visiting here often to learn more of your fashion secrets so I can utilise my wardrobe to the max. My fashion addictions are scarves & layering & necklaces & handbags. My fashion downfall is not knowing what shoes to wear with my outfits.
I'm a super-busy SAHM who likes to dress nicely every day. With colour. And style.
Sorry for rambling but I've trawled the fashion blogs for days&days for just one blog that I can relate to and read at night, and this is it. Yay.
    Thanks! from Louise in Australia.

  30. Hi Louise!  I love hearing that you are a SAHM who loves to dress nicely.  Whenever I have kids I hope to be able to do the same, though I know it's not easy.  I'm glad you're finding the blog helpful.  Thank you so much for commenting!

  37. Great post! You inspired me for my outfit today. I decided to wear a purple dress and first instinct was a to wear it with a grey cardi, then I remembered your post and decided to try one that was a lighter shade of purple than my dress. Much better than the grey! Thanks for your inspiration.

  38. Love this post! I've been throwing caution to the wind and wearing and pairing outfits that don't really make sense but work for me!

  39. The car finance arranged through various dealers and showrooms usually are not
the best option while they include processing fees to the same pay day loans uk you do not need to
pledge any collateral; no hassle you ought to face,
only by clicking the mouse, you'll be able to submit an application for loans.
