Let's be honest for a sec.

Tee: Target  |  Jeans: Gap  |  Jacket & Necklace: Forever 21  |  Wedges: Target

Friends, can I be honest with you here for a sec?  Today's outfit is very simple, and I think I was drawn to the simplicity of a plain v-neck tee because inside I feel twisted and complicated.  This week, I've felt very "over" style blogging, for a number of reasons.  Some reasons are superficial (like the frustration of feeling like you can't repeat outfits because you need to present new outfits on a blog), while others are much more profound.  Perhaps I'll share them with you another day, but not today.  It's not because I want to be secretive, but it's because I can't tell if it's a temporary feeling or not, and if it's just temporary I don't want to open up a huge can of worms for nothing.

I might just be incredibly hormonal right now (ah, the woes of being a woman...and no, I'm not pregnant haha), but as I wait to see if it is just hormones and passes in a week or if I should give more significance to how I'm feeling, I could use a little hug.

Also, my apologies for having been quieter on the blog sphere with commenting and such lately.  I caught a stomach bug all last week and was very out of it.  I'm better now...except for the whole twisted and complicated thing.  :)

  1. This post really resonated with me--I completely understand how you're feeling "over" blogging. I have been feeling a little overwhelmed with blogging lately--and I get stuck in the whole "comparing myself to other blogs" and feeling like I have too many restrictions to what I can wear each day as a set-back to my creativity and what I'm able to wear.
I still enjoy doing it for myself--and I think that if that fact ever changes, that's when I'll stop blogging. I think, though, that it is perfectly fine to take a break if you need it! :)Thanks for your honesty and vulnerability--I hope that the feeling passes!

  4. Audrey, I'm sure there's a lot of "pressure" to keep coming up with new ideas and outfits.  I'm so sorry to hear your'e having a hard time keeping it going.  Yours was the first style blog I began reading, and I check everyday because your  outfits are "real" and within reach of almost everyone.  Some of the "prettier" blogs, that is, more expensive clothing, flowery fields for background, etc. are just not that attainable.  I have several of your articles bookmarked, like the many colors of cardigans and how to wear them.  I hope you can keep up the great ideas, because you have a lot of loyal followers!!  Love ya!!

  6. Those jeans are perfect. I love them =)
Now that that's out of the way... I'm sorry you're feeling out of sorts these days and I'm sending you a big hug and a cupcake. Just wanted you to know that I really like your blog and found that you have inspired my own personal style in many ways.
In general, I really enjoy reading style/fashion blogs like yours but I know that I could never have one of my own. This is because
    1) I'm kinda lazy and sometimes I don't want to put in an effort to pick out an outfit, put on makeup, and take photos (ok not sometimes.. A LOT of the time haha)
    2) I like my blog to show a balance between style, pretty pictures, and my personal life. I guess it feels like I'm giving my readers a more complete view of who I am.. and I like that.

Either way you have great style and I know that you will do whatever right is for you.. but please don't leave us because you will be missed.

Now I think you deserve a big chocolate cupcake (for reals)

    xoxo,
    Tamms

  9. Audrey - I've only been doing it a couple months and I'm already struggling with some stuff too, so I understand and also send virtual hugs.  I really love your blog and hope it's around for years to come - I agree with a poster below that mentioned that it's real and attainable, which is really refreshing, although you have to do what's best for you.  I wish you a restful end of the week, and hope the hormonal stuff passes quickly. ;)

  14. Sorry to hear that you're having a down day! Hope you sort this out and we totally understand. Blogging should be fun, not a chore. While I have missed regular blogging, it's been creatively freeing to take the pressure off of myself. Feel better soon, Audrey!

  15. Oh I so know the feeling. It's awful and I wish you didn't have to feel it too! I think a break from the blog might help, even if it's just for a week. Also, blogging about real life stuff or doing a project and posting it helps me, just to have a little personal break from outfit posting. Good luck! Will be thinking of you :)

  16. Oh, I totally understand! I have lulls and differing feelings on blogging in general and style blogging specifically, all the time. There have been times during my blogging that I've taken months off. I think it's always to come back to the questions of why you do it. For me, style is something that I love, but not something that I can see myself only blogging about, which is why I have a lifestyle blog. BUT, every time I've taken time off from blogging I've always come back to you it because I really do enjoy it. There is not right answer, but if you want someone to chat about things you can always email me. :)

Love you, friend! You're amazing! (PS So glad to hear that you're feeling better! I'm fighting off a sinus infection right now. Yuck!)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh, I also meant to mention, one reason I couldn't only do style blogging is because I wear that exact outfit (Target v-neck and jeans) several times a week. It's such a flattering look and you look great!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love the honesty.
I feel that way every so often.  There is a lot of superficiality in this fashion blogging that we do.... sometimes it doesn't feel very fulfilling, does it?  Sending some hugs - I am sure you will feel less foggy and come to a conclusion whether it's right or not, for you.  If you can't decide, maybe blog a little less, no one will mind.  take care of yourself!

  21. First, I love the jeans on you!! Can you share the style of them?  I REALLY like them!
Second, I'm not sure if I would really notice that you wore the same outfit, but even if I did, I don't think it should change how you dress!
Third, I LOVE your blog!  It is wonderful!

I'm so sorry that you're feeling complicated and twisted.  I hope it either passes or that you figure out a solution that works for you.  Your blog should not be a source of stress.  Big hugs to you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. First, Love the wide leg jeans and the simple tea!

Second, Who can blame you for feeling twirly? This blogging shiz is hard work!! You do a great job and I love your blog, Audrey. Thanks for being honest; you're a real person, bring the complicated feelings we all experience time to time, whether it's about this or that! :)

It's really your heart and sunny personality shining through your posts that keeps readers like me coming back for more! Outfits are great and all, but it's the joy you inject into your writing that I appreciate more than anything. And you do just that, so I hope the love you're getting in these comments assures you of that. :) Do what makes you happy, because your happiness is what's so infections and wonderful about your blog!

  23. I like seeing new outfits, obviously, but remixing or repeats are fine!  I notice that I remix more than I straight-up repeat.  Could you do a remix challenge??  Since it's spring now, I'd be up for that :)

  24. {{{HUGS}}}  I just recently found your blog, so you can't quit on me now!  I love your style!

And this outfit is adorable in it's simplicity.  Hope you're feeling less twisted and complicated soon.  :)

  25. I also feel like I cannot repeat outfits and that I have to make each outfit "special" and I don't even have a style blog. I do enjoy your posts and I always look forward to them! Hope the feeling passes and that you stick around! :)

  29. Sometimes I think simple is best- this is a great outfit. I love the v-neck; I love the jeans; I love the necklace.

I'm interested to hear your reasons, and see if I share them. I completely agree with the pressure to always have something different (so in my eyes- NEW). Some days I get a little down too. But you also can't totally discount the hormones or the being sick!

Here's a big ol' hug from me!!!

  30. Hey I just started following your blog... not really "following" but I added the address onto my blog's sidebar so it shows me when you update and then I can check it... that's how I follow blogs.  Anyway, I used to have a style blog because I LOVE style blogs and look at them all the time, so I thought it would be fun for me to have my own. But it didn't take very long before I felt kind of overwhelmed by it all.  Not that blogging is a bad thing in itself, but I felt like it wasn't the best use of my time and I used to constantly struggle within myself about that.  I just felt like I spent too much time thinking about my blog and having to comment on other people's blogs, and taking daily photos, editing them, loading them, writing the post, etc., etc.  In the end it does take a lot of time.  I finally just made my style blog private and have not updated it for a year and a half.  Now I just sometimes do those "What I Wore Wednesday" posts because I don't feel pressured to take so much time for them, but it's still a fun way to share my style on my blog.  I don't know what you're feeling since you didn't share it, but if you have any of those feelings I can totally relate.
I honestly think that a lot of style bloggers have the same kinds of feelings that I had, so it's normal.  Fashion is a really fun part of life, but it's just a PART of life and having a fashion blog can make it feel like that's your WHOLE life, which just doesn't feel right.   But just FYI, I really like your blog and think you have awesome style that I can actually mimic because it's real and actually cute, not all crazy!  I don't think you should close down your blog but maybe you can just make some changes to make yourself feel happier about it, if what I talked about actually are some of the feelings you're having!

  31. Hi Audrey,
I have been following you for awhile now, and I have to say, your blog has quickly become one of my favorites! :)  I look forward to your posts and I really love your simple yet super cute style.  I know how you must feel about thinking you need to come up with new ideas or outfits...but I think the way you are remixing your outfits is perfect, especially for people like me who cannot go out and buy new outfits every week on a whim.  Your simple and affordable style is very attainable for most of us, and that is what makes your blog so nice and exciting to read.  Keep up the good work, and if you need a break, just take some time off and come back refreshed!  And don't feel like you have to post every day just to please us!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I happen to really like this outfit. It's nice to see simple. I do it too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love this outfit and love your style! Sorry you are feeling overwhelmed. Take a break if you need one, or post less frequently to give you a breather. But keep it up! Your blog is so inspiring!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think we all have days like that. Actually I LIKE blogs that repeat clothes in different ways the best! That is real life for most people. Not many ladies have unending closets of designer wear like is showcased in the fashion blogging world. I love your 1 item in different ways features!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hopefully whatever's going on for you calms down and you can keep trucking along. (: I gave up dressing up for the blog long ago because it was way too much work, haha. Although I don't have the pressure of having a popular blog like you, so I guess it's apples and oranges. At any rate, don't apologize for simplicity. It's working for you. (:

  36. I just found your blog today and I am loving it!  I am so inspired that I think I am going to do an 8 piece challenge myself.  I am currently in the middle of a chambray shirt 6 day challenge.  I am also trying to figure out Disqus, so I hope this comment goes thru correctly :-)

  37. I just found your blog a couple weeks ago and am LOVING going through your past posts! You have what I would call a classic-eclectic style that is so do-able.

I'm not generally a fashion blog follower. I'm a busy mom of five and for years jeans or shorts with a T-shirt seemed good enough. But this past year I realized I used to have style and I wanted it back! So I have browsed blogs and gleaned some ideas but most styles would require lots of shopping (not an option). I love how you Remix pieces! I have gone back into my closet with new eyes and mixed things up and been amazed at what was hiding in there! Yes, I've bought a few things...but it hasn't taken much time or money to spunk things up since I'm at Target weekly anyway :)

All this to say that your blog has been a blessing to me. You are very uplifting and encouraging to others. And even though you focus is fashion, it is clear that you are teaching and sharing a part of your life. It is not your entire life.

I hope you find a balance and that you continue to use the gifts that God has given you!!

  38. Hope the icky feeling passes, Audrey! I found you a  month or so ago and look forward to your posts for some style inspiration. :)

  39. I think blogging should always be more fun than actual work...otherwise it's not worth it in the end. I think everyone can relate to this though because blogging IS hard and some days I don't feel like posting either. I also feel the pressure of wearing something new/unique/creative without going out and buying new clothes all the time. Sending you a virtual hug, Audrey!

  40. Friend, I love your honesty. Also, I love that outfit and probably will copy it exactly as soon as I get jeans like yours. :) I can totally relate to the feelings about style blogging. It's really difficult to keep up and I think you do a wonderful job. I'd love to hear the deeper reasons too...I bet they are similar to my own hormonal/not hormonal ones too. haha!

  41. Thanks for keeping it real... with your thoughts and with your very simple outfit. Which I think looks great.

  42. Your honesty and simplistic ways are what drew me to your site.  Please feel free to repeat and mix.  Not everyone has money to constantly be buying clothing, etc. and therefore blogs that can repeat and remix  are more than welcome and needed.

  44. Hey Audrey!  Just wanted to say that I recently found your blog a few weeks ago and have been LOVING it.  I see myself as a somewhat hip girl, but I've always known I wasn't born with the style gene even though I love fashion... I have never been able to put stuff together in the right way.  I've come to a point in my life where I'm finally feeling more at peace with myself and I've been surprised by how much I've been drawn to fashion recently.  I think with this inner peace and acceptance comes the desire to want to express myself outwardly and fashion is a great way to do that.  So I started looking online... how to find your personal style, how to start a new wardrobe, how to learn style... there are a million sites and blogs out there but none of them seemed to click for me.  Some how I came upon yours and, as I said, loved it.  You are the first person I found who explained stuff in a simple easy way.  You have a great fashion style yet seem down to earth and real... I want to wear all of you outfits (and feel like I really could!), where most of the other blogs I looked at are so styled it feels a little unrealistic for me right now.

So I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your journey.  I imagine blogging and putting yourself out there has a lot of pros and cons, but just so you know you're blog has really made a difference for me.  I am dying to learn more, see different tips, suggestions, and ideas, and I hope there is more to come :)

    Thank you!!!

    Liz

I feel the same way. I started feeling stressed/obligated about style blogging... so I took the plunge and stopped. I still post bad mirror pictures on my blog from time to time, when I'm wearing something new or something I partcularly like. And I'll still do things like 30 for 30 or other style challenges. But the stress of taking a (good) picture everyday and getting it on the blog and coming up with something smart to post with it... I just couldn't do it anymore.

And you know what I found helped... taking some time off and posting just some detail shots with my camera! My shoes, my watch, the pattern on my shirt, the tube of lipstick I was wearing. It was simpler, easier and a nice mix.

Don't feel bad taking a break or a breather! Hang in there :)

  48. I totally get it.  There is a lot of pressure in picking out outfits.  For me there's so much I put into thinking of outfits and then I get overly sensitive thinking, does this look good enough compared to other style bloggers, etc.  Then there's the "do I keep blogging even though it's lost it's luster and now becoming a chore more than fun." (and my blog isn't popular at all...so I can't imagine the pressure you feel) Go with your heart!

  51. I'm a new reader.  It's funny that you mention the pressure of not repeating outfits, etc.  I think one of the reasons I loved your blog from the start is that you're real...and you repeat items (but in new combos).  This is a blog that I can totally relate to - and you inspire me.  Even this simple outfit looks cute.  The turquoise necklace and the camel jacket, keep it from looking boring.

  54. I think simple outfits can be the best outfits.
Sometimes I feel that green-eyed monster that other girls are 'better' than me, or my page views take a sudden dip and I start doubting myself. I think those are just things that go along with having a blog. Nothing wrong with a little 'blogging crisis'. And you are totally allowed to repeat outfits, or take a break when you need too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I am a new reader, but I like that you show pieces that the average woman either hass or can get very inexpensively. I would like to see even more recycling b/c I want to learn how to get more wear of the stuff I already have. I have a lot, but a lot of the time I feel like I have nothing to wear! Learning to layer from you has been great! Bloggers who show off their latest chanel or Loubitans are not in my wheel house - LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Several have already commented and said something similar, but...I really appreciate your blog. I love simple outfits because they are, honestly, what most of us wear on any given day. It also makes me feel better knowing someone else just doesn't feel like "dressing up" sometimes.

I also appreciate that you don't wear a different skirt or dress everyday. I struggle with figuring out new ways to use the same item, so seeing something several times helps a lot! Sometimes, when I read other blogs, I wonder if they have unlimited space and money because it seems like they never wear something twice! (I mean, there are only so many days per season, per year. How many clothes do we REALLY need?)

No pressure, just wanted to say thanks!

I know the feeling...being a style/fashion blogger can be overwhelming and add pressure...but remember, this is supposed to be for fun...and if it's not fun anymore, maybe you should take a break....don't beat yourself up!  You are doing a GREAT job, and your looks and style are geared toward every girl out there.  Maybe you can mix it up and do other types of posts that don't include your personal clothes.  That's what has helped me!  I think you look amazing and I want/need those jeans, are they recent?  Hang in there and hopefully it's just hormonal!

  58. I for one appreciate a repeat-y blogger! Like everyone else has said, it's realistic. I really like your blog, for more than just the outfits! You're one of the few bloggers where I actually take the time to read the writing. A lot of bloggers just try too hard to be witty and it's all fluff. I like when bloggers keep it real about their concerns and goals and stuff. I hope you feel better! :)

  62. I LOVE your blog!! I don't have a fashion blog and I still have a hard time feeling like I can't repeat outfits in my workplace! your blog has really inspired me to look at my closet differently. Please continue to blog even if it’s about the same outfits!

  63. Please don't stop posting. You have made a huge impact on me and i've only been following you for a few weeks. I was a jeans and t shirt girl for my entire life. I love cute and pretty things, but I never had the courage to actually follow through with any of them. Well now, as I sit typing this, I am wearing a beautiful yellow, grey and white striped a line skirt, belted at the waist, with a white t shirt, and a leather jacket. I have never felt more confident or beautiful. Yet, I am still so comfortable! :) I owe all of my inspiration to you.
After I found your blog I went through my closet and donated about 90% of my stuff that left me with about 10 pieces, and now seeing what you have has me building it back up. :) So thank you, and please don't stop.

  66. I don't mean to sound like a broken record since I've read several of your reader's comments and they all say just about the same thing.  I can also count on three fingers the number of times I've commented on someone's blog who I don't know. But here's my two cents... I appreciate your blog because it's much more realistic for me and my lifestyle.  Sure, I enjoy blogs where you rarely see the same piece repeated twice.  It's all fun and great but I think it's unrealistic for 99% of their readers.  I'm a firm believer in minimizing, even if you can afford to buy an endless wardrobe.  I don't want to tell you that you need to keep your blog if closing down is what you need to do for your own personal reasons.  I faced the same dilemma just a few weeks ago. I know how blogs can take on a life of their own and soon take over yours.  But just know that if you do decide to keep it going, your blog is appreciated and enjoyed.  If not, you will still have the respect and admiration of hundreds of readers and will have made the blogging world a little better place.  Hope you're feeling a little better.  :)

  70. Audrey,

I realize that this post was put up 11 months ago, and that you probably don't feel the same way still, but since I JUST found your blog and LOVE it!!!! I wanted to reply one little thing. I don't think you have to always post a new outfit. I mean, my little style blog I had going for a while (my new love for yours is making me want to resurrect it . . . ) is definitely small potatoes compared to your awesome powerhouse here, but I believe that it's fine for you to present what you would truthfully like to wear for the day. You're not in a life-long 30 for 30, so go ahead and re-wear, I say! Otherwise what's the point of finding a really GREAT pairing if you don't wear it any more often than just a so-so outfit? Plus, it's neat to see how the same outfit might be reworn or slightly tweaked for different weather or circumstances. Like, "This outfit wasn't so great for that birthday party I wore it to last time, but at the baseball game I felt perfect in this!" So I am just writing to tell you that you could rewear each outfit ten times and I would not fault you one bit. ;P

Also, I love your blog, it is amazing, and it inspired a massive closet overhaul for me! Thank you soooo much!
