Do you have color combos that you tend to avoid? I've mentioned before how I have an aversion to holiday-inspired colors. Well, another for me is purple and yellow. It flashes me straight back to high school, awkward teenage years and all. Our school colors were royal purple and gold--a combo I like--but most "gold" items turned out to be a dorky shade of yellow. How can a shade of yellow be dorky? I don't know, but it was. Now, whenever I see purple and yellow, sirens go off in my head screaming, "Dorky!!" With this outfit, I talk myself out of it by telling myself that this is "mustard and maroon," not purple and that dorky shade of yellow. Purple and yellow = dorky, awkward teenage years. But mustard and maroon? Me likey.

My school colors were purple and gold! I was always jealous of schools with good colors like white and blue. : ) I love this outfit though!!
ReplyDeletei love this color combo! purple and gold look great together. those booties are also wonderful as well. i had the same aversion to blue and gold because of school colors
ReplyDeleteLoving this maroon and yellow combo. Great work!
ReplyDeleteI think this is really great on you and not dorky at all! Mustard and maroon totally works for you!

Mustard and maroon look lovely together on you! I had school colors of maroon & white and then maroon & gold, so I've had an aversion to maroon for a little while - school colors are always so LOUD about it though, no subtlety. These days I think maroon and gold could have some great possibilities with a really nice, soft gold....
ReplyDeletei have the same aversion to the combo of red, white and blue. while i just bought a pair of pants that are that exact combo in polka dot print, i still feel slightly americana in them. i am going to force myself to get past it and just rock them! love your outfit here. my high school colors were maroon and gold, by the way!
ReplyDeleteGreat color combo! Lovely print on the dress.
ReplyDeleteThere are color I absolutely LOVE but they look awful on me. And sadly mustard colored tops I just can't pull off (certain shades).
Ha, I totally know how certain color combos can bring back bad memories. But I am loving this color combo. That dress is gorgeous too.
ReplyDeleteAnother girl with pretty tights! Oh, man I wish I didn't have short stumpy legs! Love the color pairing, you look MARVELOUS!
ReplyDeleteLove this dress and also yesterday's skirt! I need a mustard cardigan :)
ReplyDeleteI love this dress... its going to take a lot of holding back for me not reach for my debit card right now.

I came across your blog from Already Pretty. I just spent about an hour reading back several pages. Love it and love your style!
ReplyDeleteI hate purple and yellow too because it reminds me of a medicine that I took when I was a child that was purple and yellow and NASTY! Your outfit, however, is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteMe tooooo! I always wanted white and blue.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Jessica!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore your blog! I followed a link here from Pinterest just a few days ago. I have to say, that in a matter of days, you've completely transformed how I view my wardrobe. I purchased a few key pieces since then (some from Target - a favorite store of mine, too) and suddenly the possibilities are endless! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand and agree! My college colours were purple and gold, but really that just meant that everything was this tacky combination of dandelion yellow and electric violet. Ugh, gives me shudders to think about! But I love this combination...the purple looks almost more maroon/brown and the mustard compliments it so well. Really lovely!!!

Ha! I feel the same way about 'blue & gold' to this day. I love this cardigan & dress though. I do not think they look dorky. I think this is just 'saturated'. It's really cute together.
ReplyDeleteTerri, I'm SO GLAD to hear that! You just made my day! :)
ReplyDeleteyou are too cute!! love mustard and maroon! :)
ReplyDeleteoutfit looks great audrey!! love it
ReplyDeletejust found your blog...love it!
ReplyDeleteis that cardi a recent target purchase? i've been trying to find one. :)
It's from a few months ago, sorry. :( Target still has a few others, but they're cropped or have embellishments on them, etc. (Dunno if this link works, but here's a shot...)
ReplyDeletei love this, what a great color combination! i actually love shades of yellow & purple together but shy away from wearing it since those are my state's football team colors, it's funny how things like that or our school's colors deters us from wearing those colors together!
ReplyDeleteI love love love this color combo! But, purple & gold were my high school's colors, & now they are my college's too . Sooo, in order to avoid looking like I'm extremely enuthuasic about school spirit, I tend to shy away from it. Ha.
ReplyDeleteBut maybe I'll follow your lead & just call the combination "maroon & mustard" from now on! (:
You look great! Love these colors together on you!
ReplyDeleteHahah that is not dorky at all...then again I would think twice about wearing my high school colors as well...but alas, you look fantastic my dear :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your help! :)
ReplyDeleteMustard and maroon are great friends, it is true. I totally have color combos that I avoid because they remind me of holidays or things in the past--thank you for making me know I'm not the lone oddball. (:
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness you are so pretty and that outfit is fantastical - love your blog xo

Cute blog! Love your style!
ReplyDeleteSay hi to me at http://faithfashionbeauty.blogspot.com
Mallory :)
I really like this color combo. I can't do black and orange (too Halloweeny) and green and red (to Christmasy). I also can't do a lot of color combos that I associate with athletic teams (i.e. blur and orange for the FL Gators).
