Cold Weather Trips

Top: NY&Co. (shop)  |  Jacket: Old Navy  |  Red skinny jeans: Buffalo Exchange  |  Gold flats: Target

Not much time to blog this week, or really for the next few weeks.  I'm getting ready to do a lot of traveling--a wedding that my husband is a groomsman for and that I'm performing in followed by two back to back work trips.  Ahhh!

I'll probably be wearing my standard go-to outfits during all my trips, so outfit posting might be slow.  Maybe I should have planned ahead and gotten guest bloggers...doh!  Is it too late to ask?  Does anyone wanna guest blog for me in the next two weeks?  Haha.

One thing I am looking forward to is that one of my trips is to Chicago, which means REAL cold weather!  I traveled to Chicago a lot for work a few years ago, so I'm familiar with the cut-to-the-bone chill.  I layered like crazy and survived, but I got kind of tired of wearing the same thing each trip and want some new ideas.  Obviously, San Diego weather doesn't prepare me well for this!

Tell me some of your go-to outfits for winter!

  1. I have everything to complete this outfit except the red skinny jeans. Need to go get some! What do you perform?

  2. Sweater dresses and leggings with boots are easily packable and great for cold weather I think. You can also layer a faux fur vest or blazer with it too.

  3. AH! Take it from the Boston Gal... honestly my go to outfits are leggings and boots. Do you have to be dressed up for these work events? Its crazy but I am warmer when I am in leggings, boots and some kind of warm tunic/dress. This is also nice if it rains/snows. I hate wearing flats/pants when it rains/snows because my feet get cold/wet.

Have fun in Chicago!! :) I am Jealousssssssss!

  4. I love these jeans!

I go to school in Boston so cold guides most of my outfits, haha. Layering is going to be your best friend, seriously. And tights! Just find layers that are a mix of chunky and thin (but still warm) so that you don't feel like a marshmellow. I've posted some layering looks on my blog if you want to check it out. Have fun!

  9. Love this combination. The red pants are awesome on you, definitely a great classic style! Layering like crazy for cold is really the best idea, but make sure those layers include wool and thin down jackets if you can do it. That way you'll stay nice and warm through the bitter cold! Good luck with it!

  10. I love sweater dresses in the winter paired with tights and tall boots! If it's really cold, I'll even layer an over sized cardigan over the dress.

  14. Always wear a scarf and keep a cute knit hat handy.  It can save your hair on a windy day!

  15. Note to self: take smiling tips from Audrey. You ALWAYS smile!

Chicago! Amazing. I had an ex that lived there and I loved it, and I hate most cities. I was there a couple times in winter but it was never really as cold as I expected it. I didn't bundle up ay more than usual, though my face dried out really fast. The Art Institute--an entire wing of Impressionist art, topped off by Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte? I'll take one to go please. Have a great time, and take a ton of Chapstick because you will use it! & I'll totally guest blog for you if you are that desperate for someone ;)

  21. I got it a couple of years ago, but I recently saw it on the Old Navy website, like earlier this month.  I just looked for it again but I can't find it--it looks like they took off about half of their jackets since a few weeks ago.  Sorry!  Keep checking their site once in a while.  I was surprised to see it pop up earlier this month!

  22. That is one fabulous outfit. Red pants make any outfit better. I love Chicago. I have been there many times and even lived there on & off for two years. But yeah it is brisk cold there. San Diego's weather is quite different. I say for Chicago's winter is always good to have on a long-sleeve tee, a button-down or cute top layered over the tee and a thick cardigan (like a cable-knit one, or a wool blended one) that you can take off if you get too warm. Of course once you are out, you need a nice wool coat (I prefer peacoats or puffy jackets), gloves, a cute knitted scarf and you might even wear a cap or a French berret. =)
