Rules

Dress: Old Navy  |  Sweater: Old Navy (shop)  |  Boots: Dolce Vita via Macy's (gift)  |  Socks: Target  |  Necklace: gift

Good thing I took these pictures before I brushed my teeth and dripped toothpaste on my black dress.  What?  Adults still do that?  Yes, those of us who sometimes still have the toothbrushing skills of a 3 year old.  Raise your hand if you're in that club with me.

So, you know how the word on the street is that, "Black and brown are acceptable again!"  I think I'm really out of the fashion trends because I never even knew it was faux pas in the first place.  Or I must have been way ahead of the game because I was wearing black and brown together since...always.  Let's go with the latter, shall we?  Who makes up these crazy rules, anyway?  This is a casual look with black and brown, but on my Pinterest board there are a few looks that are just so chic with black and brown.  (See 1, 2 especially, and 3, 4 are a little more casual.)  If those outfits don't get you on board, I don't know what will.

  7. I never understand the whole "no black and brown" or "no navy and black." I think your outfit looks great!

And yes, I'm in that club too :D I tend to drip toothpaste everywhere because I brush for a long time and would go around the house doing stuff while I brush.

  17. Too funny--I'm talking all about mixing neutrals for my post today too!  Love it--I've thrown all those rules out the window.  Your camel boots look just perfect with the graphic stripes.   Looks great, chickadee!  Found you through EBEW, so come on by if you have a minute--I love meeting new folks!

  20. Whenever I brush my teeth I start to get very foamy at the mouth so I know I'd get it all over my outfit.  That's why I try to steer clear of dressing before brushing.  I never understood the no black and brown rule.  Those two colors look amazing in your outfit!  I love how you recreated the last look from your Pinboard

  28. Haha, I totally remember my sisters telling me several years back that I was weird for mixing black and browns. For a while I never did for fear of their wrath, but I totally wanted to. I agree with you-- I think we were just ahead of the game :)  Those boots are gorgeous, by the way!

  30. Sweet dress! I love your necklace and boots. Oh gosh, toothpaste is so hard to get rid of (temporarily) once it falls on a garment.

  33. I have done the toothpaste thing in the last six months. Yep, I'm 5. Whatever, it's cool, that's what the Target boyfriend stand-in tee is for. I've never hated brown and black together but every time I wear them together, someone inevitably asks me if I know that I'm committing a dire fashion faux pas. To which I say no and bounce on my merry way :) I think you look great, whether black and brown work together or not!

  34. Love that dress! Cute and chic. And love also your necklace and booties. Great combo, eh.

  35. That dress is adorable and it looks so cute with that cozy, neutral sweater. Love your Cognac Boots too. I am wearing mine today (I have worn my cognac boots 4 times this week and thought of you, each time.) =)

  36. Do the shoes, belt, and bag all need to be brown or black? Or would you wear brown shoes with a black belt or black belt with a brown handbag etc? Do you have any outfit examples of this?
