Striped Sweater ($11),  Polka Dot Top ($4.50), Yellow Flats ($20): Old Navy  |  Pants: LC via Kohl's ($31, shop

This is one last outfit from my time in the Bay Area for Thanksgiving.  The day I wore this was one of those days when you regret everything you packed for your trip.  I originally just had the polka dot top on with these pants, and I kind of hated it.  After a mini tornado of cardigans and shoes, this striped sweater managed to find its way over the polka dots, and I'm glad it did!  I've said before that I'm not much of a pattern mixer, but stripes with a little pop of polka dot?  I'll take it.  And, let's just add some yellow while we're at it, eh?

Don't forget to enter the latest giveaway and win free ear warmers!  Totally cute, and it makes a great gift if you live in warm weather like I do.

Dress: Nordstrom Rack (I think...)  |  Scarf: Banana Republic Factory
Leggings: American Apparel  |  Boots: Target  |  Belt: Lulu's

B (husband) and I are in the Bay Area this week for Thanksgiving, and I'm SO happy!  That means orange and red leaves, crisp air, and dew on my car in the morning.  It means FALL.  For real.  Not like how I have to pretend it's fall in San Diego.  And that means it's time to break out one of my favorite scarves.  I seriously love this thing.

Now that I'm really in the fall / holiday spirit, I think it's appropriate to link up with Kristina J to share ten blessings I'm thankful for.  (Have you seen Kristina J's blog yet?  I just found it last week and I love it!)  Here we go...
  1. My super duper awesome, loving, patient, serving, humble husband, B.
  2. Our house.  How we found it is a cool story, and every day I walk into it so thankful to have it.
  3. Chocolate ice cream!  Make no mistake, I don't take this for granted.
  4. That I live 4 min away from Target.  Score.  :)
  5. Rain on rooftops, especially when I'm cozied up in bed.
  6. Boba aka pearl milk tea aka bubble tea.  Need I say more?
  7. Playing with kids!  Of course.
  8. Getting to do something I love and change people's lives everyday.
  9. Getting to make music with some very gifted people.
  10. This blog and the blogging community--(that's you).  Seriously, each of your comments brightens my day, so THANK YOU for even reading this thing!
What's one thing you're thankful for?

Long Time Comin'

Dress: Target ($20)  |  Mustard Cardigan: Target ($20)  |  Necklace: H&M
Tights: Nordstrom Rack ($2 after coupon)  |  Boots: Dolce Vita via Macy's

Okay.  First, let's ignore the fact that I look like I'm 20 years old in this outfit.  Secondly, as pathetic as it sounds, I've been waiting since April for mustard cardigans to come back to Target or H&M.  Anyone else get strange and obsessed like that?  No?  Just me?  :)  (There were some in other stores, but I didn't want to pay more than $20.)  Since then, I can't even tell you how many times I've said to myself, "I would totally make ____ outfit with ___ piece if I just had a mustard cardigan!"  Do you ever do that?  Anyway, now that I finally have one in my clutches--insert evil laugh here--all of those outfit ideas can get out of my head.

P.S.  If you're interested in advertising your shop, blog, or business and becoming a sponsor, check out the sponsor page and email me!

Guest Post: Rachel from For the Birds!

**edit 12/13/11:
Rachel has recently changed her blog title and URL to For the Birds.  None of the Distinct.Style.Innovation links work, so please find her at her new address:

Hey everyone!  I'm excited to have Rachel from Distinct.Style.Innovation as my first guest post!  She has awesome colored hair, hosts a feature called wear*it Wednesday that you should check out, and constantly thrifts pieces that I totally covet!

Since I still feel like a novice thrifter, I asked Rachel to share about how she finds her fantastic pieces.  Hopefully I'll come out more often with pure awesomeness like she does.  :)

Here goes!

Hello! I'm Rachel from Distinct.Style.Innovation. The lovely and sweet Audrey asked me to guest post and not surprisingly we came up with the topic of thrifting. I am an absolute thrift-a-holic and I wouldn't have it any other way. I am really lucky to have multiple thrift stores in the area, and there is hardly ever a week that goes by that I don't make it into a thrift store.

People ask me all the time how I score so many great finds while thrifting. It's simple - thrift often. In order to do this, I recently started using a new system. You know how you don't always have time to spend an hour+ browsing every aisle for hidden gems? Sometimes you just need to get in, find what you need, and get out. There is usually something specific I'm looking for.

Instead of just not thrifting during busy weeks, I give myself a 15-20 minute time limit in thrift stores that are on my way to or from appointments and just look in those select sections. The other day, I used this method on hats, here, and left with 6 of them! I've used this method a couple of times since then and it is surprisingly effective!

My favorite things to look for when thrifting are:

1) Vintage anything - from clothes to home-wares and especially jewelry:

2) Granny dresses

3) Scarves - you can find some really unique patterns and fabrics in thrifted scarves and I can't get enough! This one I recently got is my new favorite.

4) Shoes - a lot of people are surprised I buy used shoes.. but I have a cleaning method (see more on how I do that here)

5) Blazers - I am currently on the lookout for more blazers. With the weather getting cooler they are the perfect fall accessory for layering and adding more interest to any fall outfit. This one I got for around $3 and I wear it all the time!

6) Grandpa sweaters & Cardigans - I love a good cozy sweater and these are another item I can't get enough of!

7) Skirts - I have found so many great skirts while thrifting! Skirts with interesting patterns and colors are my favorite.

8) Over-sized or men's shirts to wear with skinnies & leggings.

There you have it! Some of my favorite things to shop for while thrifting and favorite thrifted finds. I do a series on my blog called "Thrifted finds."  If you're interested, click here to scroll through those posts.

Thank you, Audrey for letting me share my love of thrifting with your lovely readers! I hope you all got some good thrift-inspiration. Drop by sometime and say hello :)

Too Easy Not To

Top, Cardigan, Scarf: H&M (??, $25, $3)  |  Grey Skinny Jeans: Gap Outlet
Boots: Dolce Vita via Macy's  | Bangles: Forever 21  |  Bag: Target

I know I just said in my last post that I was trying to avoid wearing jeans so frequently, but change is slow, people.  :)  And somedays you don't want to spend too much time thinking about getting dressed, so you put on jeans.  Plus I saw this pin (middle of bottom row) and thought to myself, "That's too simple not to do."

In an attempt to not wear jeans so often I'm in the market for a couple more versatile dresses.  I have a ton of dresses, but since I look at my clothes differently these days, only a couple of them feel right.  I wish I could wear this dress, since I had like 10 ideas for it, but in the end I actually returned it because of the shrinking problem.  Time to scour places Ruche and eShakti for dresses!

Besides thrift stores, Target, and Old Navy, where have you found some of your most-worn dresses?

Another dressed down pencil skirt look

Top: Forever 21 ($13)  |  Military Jacket: Nordstrom Rack ($12 after Groupon)  |  Skirt: TJ Maxx ($17)  |  Belt, Necklace, Bracelets: Forever 21  |  Tights: Nordstrom Rack ($2 after Groupon)  |  Boots: Target ($37)

While I've had each of these items for quite some time now, this outfit is completely new.  I wouldn't have thought to put military with lace--thank you, Pinterest.

I was about to wear this with grey skinny jeans, but as you might notice in my "Recent Outfits," I kinda wear jeans a lot.  In an attempt to diversify, I chose a grey pencil skirt instead.  Plus, ever since I posted about how to dress down a pencil skirt I've received handfuls of visitors each week about it via Google.  I felt kinda lame only having one post for that, so I figured I'd better create another pencil skirt outfit!  :)

Today is the last day to enter the $30 Stella & Dot giveaway!

The Thing About Prints

Top: Old Navy ($20)  |  Mustard Cardigan: Target ($20)  |  Pants: LC via Kohl's ($31)
Wedges: Target ($20)  |  Belt: H&M ($17)

One of the many things that's nice about a printed top is that it can do the work of choosing your color palette for you.  You might think you need to tone down a print by pairing it with neutrals, but one thing I love to do is pull out some of the colors from the print and use it in the rest of the outfit.  The print is the piece that ties it all together.  Normally I might go with a neutral cardigan if I were wearing these (not mauve) pants :P, but I had fun pairing them with a yellow cardigan since both of those colors were in the print!

I'm off to Chicago this weekend for work!  What are you all up to?  Whatever it is, I hope it's fantastic.

Wine and Berries

Top: Old Navy ($7.50)  |  Belt:  Forever 21 ($2.50)  |  Jeans: NY & Co. ($45)
Flats: Gap Outlet ($20) |  Purse: Target ($37)

So it was clear from my Mauve post that I need a lesson in colors.  (Thank you all for edjumakating me.)  And don't worry, I know that this purse and these flats ain't mauve.  I've had this bag for 2.5 years and these flats for 4.5 years, and they're some of my favorite fall items.  Though my purse might look brown on some of your screens, it's a beautiful dark wine color and these flats are berry.  I don't know if those colors are on trend for fall this year, but they're always going to be my personal favorites!  Trend schmend.

Another one that's making its way up there on my fall list (and summer and spring and winter...since San Diego doesn't have a real winter) is mustard yellow!  Love it!  I'm curious to hear your favorite fall colors?

When I'm Sick

Top: Forever 21  |  Blazer: Target  |  Red Skinnies: Buffalo Exchange  |  Wedges: Old Navy  |  Teardrop Necklace: H&M

Well, it's been a while, hasn't it, friends?  I've missed you, but I'm only kind of back.  I was out of town last week and will be in Chicago for work this weekend.  And I'm trying to fight off sickness.

But I thought we'd get back into the blogging groove with red pants.  I have to miss today's Everybody Everywear colored tights theme, but I'm still keeping the spirit with red skinnies.  This outfit is from a day I was not sick.  I was able to walk in 4 inch wedges and ward off strange onlookers who still don't get what red pants are about (aka my friends).  Yesterday was a different story.  In my cloudy headedness, I jammed my finger into a light switch, dropped my purse and when trying to pick it up ended up dropping something on my toe, and put on my coat with the hanger still in it.  And of course I walked into a door frame, because I do that even when I'm not sick.  That said, who the heck let me create a blog about being put together?

Don't forget to enter the Stella & Dot giveaway!
